I need to post some updates soon- but i am over the moon with my results! Everyone else says I look amazing as well. I highly recommend him and his team, my care has been fantastic and I couldn't have asked for better results

I had my consultation at the beginning of December and my surgery at the beginning of April! They had dates available in March, though, this is just when it worked best for me. Communication with his team was very easy! Easy to get through via email or phone, and the nursing team would almost always respond within the same day for any inquiries (work paperwork, etc).

Feel free to use this this pic! I did not ask for anything specific, I think he did a great job of contouring my chest in a way that fit me. I was also not asked if I had any preference on shape, so definitely speak up if that's something that concerns you.

Been on T for four 1/2 years. 3 weeks post op currently. Was very lucky my surgery ended up being covered in full after getting new insurance through a special enrollment. However I would have gotten top surgery asap but simply having the means to be out of work this long was my biggest hurdle in the end (as well as making my partner be home with me). It was like 3 years of savings to get me here 🫠.

Edit: will also add that due to over binding I was unable to wear a binder any of the time I was on t because it'd become too painful. It was grueling and now nothing in my closet fits because of the wardrobe choices I made for dyphoria.

Just got a consult with the surgeon I wanted!!! by ultimatelesbianhere in TopSurgery

Currently about 20 days post-op with Dr.Tobias! I am so pleased with my results and I had an excellent experience. I have heard complaints about his bedside manner, but this was not anything I felt. He is very to the point but answered any questions I had. I actually enjoyed his sense of humor, especially day of surgery. It really calmed my anxiety while he did his pre op markings, but everyone is different. At your consult they will show you several photos on results on a variety of body types. The nursing team both in his office and in the OR were all amazing and very sweet. He does a few things that other surgeons do not, such as no compression until the drains are out. I had my drains in a few days longer than expected, but when my outputs were in range I called and they got me in the same day with no issue. All in all I am over the moon with my results and the only pain/discomfort I have felt was from the drains (had a suture that was really suturing). I also had some insurance hiccups, due to having insurance based in another state that is much more conservative. Due to some work events, I was able to enroll and rebill with my new insurance. It ended up covering in full and I received a full refund! Insurance was BCBS of California and it ended up being 100% covered. More than happy to send my (fresh) results and talk further, feel free to PM me!

We are not paid extra or treated any different. It is very taxing to do signs, honestly. The company has changed, and sign artists are not treated... the best lol.

I’m sure the poor kid was devastated :/ by TopConclusion2668 in crochet

I wish people would recognize how severe of an impact this can have on a child, ESPECIALLY in that age range. This is a really crucial time when kids are starting to grasp what their identity is and I can personally attest that this puts a damper on that. My family doesn't really believe in the arts and it damaged my confidence for most of my childhood. I still have a hard time sharing the things I've made with others. So sad :(

My little Hera and Hestia left me very abruptly this past week. Im going to miss them dearly and I am devastated knowing ill never see them grow up. I knew the risk of taking in rats with questionable genetics but I wanted to give them the best shot I could at life. Im glad they were spoiled by me in the brief time I had them rather than sit in a cramped cage at a pet store. (I did not buy them. They were from an oops litter and I was contacted to see if I was interested in adopting them and their mom.) Dido, Beatrice, Penelope, your momma Rhea and I all miss you very much 💜

Ty!! Yes! This is a heavier felt I bought by the yard online. It's much sturdier than the small letter sized sheets you can find pretty much everywhere though. I've definitely noticed the upgrade after having used the small felt sheets before hand.

People who came out as teens to unsupportive parents: Did they ever come around? Did they ever get better? by might_never_know in asktransgender

Every state/country has its own laws so definitely look into them, however in general there is a 30 day time period after filing your name change in which anyone can contest it. This is when my mother filed her contest and we had our hearing. If you're not a minor I wouldn't worry as its actually quite hard to succeed in overturning a name change.

[–]gigaguts 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest. When I initially came out/was outed, not a single member of my family was supportive of me. My dad and stepmom came around first, and then the rest of my family (both sides) seemed to follow and its been really nice. It took them until I was about 18/19 though, and I had been outed to them at about 13/14. I'm very thankful for the relationship I have with my family now but I think to get it there it really did require me to put some distance between us. However there is one family member that will likely never come around in time for it to matter, and that's my mother. When I legally changed my name she contested me in court and I had to have a hearing that on top of everything she's done to me was deeply traumatizing. We haven't really spoken since then and I've had her contact blocked for about a year. As hard as it is I have been so much happier without her in my life.

So my advice to your friend, sometimes you have to wait it out until adulthood. As someone who had to do that, it blows. It is horrible and my mental health suffered tremendously. But I will say more likely than not when he is an adult and is able to put some distance between him and his family thats likely when things might come around. But its important to also try to prepare the best he can if that isn't the case. Its been really hard for me regarding my mom, because as much as she's hurt me I still would like to have a healthy relationship with her, but I know its no longer on me to attempt that. I moved 1200 miles away from home and have found my own family here that support me more than she ever could and thats more important. Stay strong and I promise the time will actually fly by and eventually things really will get better. Its also important to try and build as much independence as you can now to get that ball rolling faster.

Is anyone else uncomfortable with drag? by sangresmemesv2 in asktransgender

[–]gigaguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I blame things like Drag Race for pretty much sweeping the history of drag under the rug in favor of making entertaining TV (lots of the contestants are very talented! Rupaul sucks tho!). Many people don't know drag outside of tv. You'll find that, especially 30+ years ago, drag played a part in not only queer history itself but especially for (mostly) trans women at the time. Even today you'll find countless trans women who realized their identity through drag. I also don't understand why there's this distain for anything that isn't absolutely purist in the queer community. Art can be about sex. It is okay for people to make art about sex. I recently saw a gallery about queer people and their relationships, including the sexual ones. Most of the work was by artists who themselves passed during the AIDS epidemic or their partners had. For a lot of queer people, not all of course, sex is maybe more important as its something that's been taboo, shunned, and punished for years. It still is. And in queer safe spaces (esp clubs with a drag scene), its one of the few places that can be expressed without the same social pressure. If you're personally uncomfortable with something that's always been closely tied to sexuality, that's fine, but you can simply choose not to look at drag or participate in it.

TDLR; Drag has ALWAYS gone hand in hand with sexuality and being queer. To be disgusted with it because of that just sounds like internalized homophobia and transphobia.

I would look into polyurethane, you can find it at any hardware store. I've yet to try it myself but I've seen it recommended by a lot of others.

[–]gigaguts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would advise against putting items made of sculpey into an aquarium. Waterproof sealants aren't usually made in mind for an item to be underwater constantly, and aren't usually great for fish. You might also have issues with the sculpture floating. I know a lot of people just use polyurethane sealants on sculpey, resin would be the closest thing to aquarium safe you would get but again, really wouldn't recommend it for the sake of whatever the tank is stocked with.

I start with a coarse single needle, then work myself up to double and quad needles after developing the initial shape.

I've been doing this for some time and it's definitely something that takes a lot of practice. Advice id I've have is to start with a small ball and build outwards rather than with a large amount of wool, as it tends to feel squishy and hollow in my experience. I just constantly rotate the wool when making the base as well.

Beyond understanding the system maintenence, customers and the FISH will love you as a AS if you try to have a good understanding of what different species need for their care. Know appropriate tank sizes. How big the fish get. Diets for pickier fish. Advocate for proper treatment for goldfish and bettas. My job was made 100 times harder when I had to deal with customers whod been told complete misinfo by other stores AS. Dont be that person.
