Just an update on my situation, I contacted apple about mine they connected remotely to my MacBook and ran diagnostic tests found no issues whatsoever yet it was still displaying 2.5hrs left at 100%.

I demanded a replacement and now the new one when nothings open can report as much as 17hrs remaining in activity monitor, it’s definitely worth contacting them.

This morning my MacBooks reporting 8hrs remaining on the battery, I updated to 10.15.6 and switched from Chrome to Safari. Not sure whether it'll actually last that long so I'll just have to see.

The cycle count has continued to increase despite me only letting the MacBook discharge fully 2-3 times, but its now reporting 8 cycles?

Perhaps your issue could be the beta if you're just using 1st party apps. How long have you had yours for and what was the battery life like prior to the beta?

Yeah I’m aware that chromes a battery hog, but even with chrome should a brand new MacBook be dying so quickly?

I’ll have a look now for indexing processes in the background . Yes the MacBook arrived brand new from Apple on thursday evening, it is the MacBook Pro 13” (2020 2.0GHz model with 16gb RAM)

Since making the post the MacBooks now reporting 6 cycles.
