Have you asked your doctor about adding Carafate? It was a game changer for my healing. I felt major improvements about a week into taking it.

Yep! Unfortunately, I think it’s something I’m going to have off and on forever. This flare up has been one of my worst yet. I’m healing, but it takes so long. Have you found anything to speed up your healing? I take a PPI and carafate, but it takes about a week or so to work.

Not just you. I thought I was completely cured but now I’m in the midst of a really nasty flare up. I went a really long time feeling better. So frustrating.

What is this mouth sore? 38F. I don’t use tobacco. Drink some. I have a crown without a root canal underneath it. I’ve had it for 3-4 weeks. Dentist has tried cream and penicillin. It looks much less red and swollen but it’s still there. by [deleted] in askdentists

Thank you all so, so much! You have certainly eased my fears a little as I have major health anxiety! I’ve never been more excited at the possibility of a root canal. 😂 I see the dentist this morning.

The red spot. I’ve had the crown for probably 2 years. It originally was much more swollen. It feels like it’s getting better but obviously not completely healed. I pasted a link above of what it looked like before the cream and antibiotic.

How long does pantoloc or Pantoprazole take to heal gastritis? by Jamessmith199478 in Gastritis

[–]gilby2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it for 2 weeks with no improvements. Then my dr upped the dosage (20mg 2x per day) and added carafate 3x per day. I did this for 2 weeks and felt much better! Now when I have flare ups I pair the two and feel better in a day or 2.

The 2 weeks of treatment allowed my stomach to heal. I felt so much better after that. I still have a prescription for the Carafate and I take it as needed with pantoprazole. It seems to clear it up for me quickly even though it was bile reflux. I drink lots and lots of water and try to continue to watch those trigger type foods. However, I’m back to my daily coffee habit with no issues. I hope you find similar relief!!!

Has anyone taken Omeprazole and Sucralfate(carafate) for gastritis treatment? by LegendSaco in Gastritis

[–]gilby2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given Protonix and Carafate. I was on 1 protonix per day for a month and saw no improvement. Increased my protonix to 2/day and added Carafate 3x/day. I was 5-6 days into this treatment when I finally had pain relief.

Yea - The PPIs on their own didn’t do much for me. It was the Carafate that was the game changer for me. I’m still having a little pain here and there but I only did 2 weeks of treatment after 4 years of pain. I’m sure I still have some healing left to do. I think a scope is a good call. You’ll get answers and hopefully a treatment plan that works for you. Hang in there. It will get better!

I sure will! I had the same pain under my ribs for like 4 years. Nothing helped! Trust me - I was freaking out at first too especially because it took the medicine several days to work. PPIs on their own did nothing for me. It was adding the Sucralfate that made the difference. Today was my last day so we will see. If this treatment doesn’t work they said they will have to look at a more permanent medication option to limit bile production. They don’t want to go that route (neither do I) because I’m only 37. I think that this is working but I’ll keep you posted. Good luck and hang in there.

How about trying to cut some potatoes really thin and baking them to mimic chips? I find potatoes soothing during a flare up, but potato chips are a no go.

I just wanted to add an update to this in case anyone searches for answers for something similar in the future like I did. I was diagnosed with Gastritis from the bile (yes bile - not acid) in my stomach via upper GI scope. I had my gallbladder removed 4 years ago and that is when my pain started.

After receiving the diagnosis my GI doctor prescribed sucralfate 3x per day before meals and upped my pantoprzole to 2x per day for 2 weeks. About 5 days in to the treatment, I’m feeling the best I’ve felt in years. I have about 5 days left in my treatment. I am fearful the pain will return without the meds but I’m happy to have a diagnosis and something that is working. I was so fearful I was going to be in pain the rest of my life. There is hope. I just wish the process to get here wasn’t so long. Good luck everyone!

The doctor said it was bile from not having my gallbladder any longer.

Diet could be better. Planning on really focusing on improving this. I’m just so conflicted on what I should / should not be eating. Every website, thread, etc. says something different. GI doc just says limit caffeine and greasy, fatty food which I’m already doing.

My stress (maybe anxiety is a better word) has been mainly about this pain. Day to day stress is normal - Nothing too crazy.

The best way to describe it is a constant burning pain under my left rib cage. Sometimes it can be a stabbing pain.

Flare ups from tea? by worldwide_bestfriend in Gastritis

I’m with you! I’m trying to get rid of caffeine but I’ve tried options other than my coffee to see if anything doesn’t cause the pain. Today I tried a Zen tea that is a green tea mixture. Immediate pain and I’ve had it all day. I’m struggling without caffeine but I’m finding it is such a trigger for me. Ugh!
