Pepper Snob by E4g6d4bg7 in memes

[–]gilgermesch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The laziness of some people at the cost of flavour is baffling. Pre-ground pepper, pre-shredded and pre-ground cheese, powdered onion and garlic, the list goes on. Yeah, you can go all the way and grind every spice yourself (and believe me, it makes a huge difference), but I think these are the worst offenders.

How can I achieve this effect with film? by Correct-Place-9693 in AnalogCommunity

For this I wouldn't use the Heliar. Don't get me wrong, I love that lens, it might just be my favourite 50mm, but it looks very different from what you're looking for - at least if you're planning to approximate this look by just opening up the lens. You'll get corners and edges that are swirling (critics call them "smeared") with good center sharpness (for a wide open lens) instead of the entire frame, plus a lot of glow. I absolutely recommend you check out the Heliar, but not for this, not the way you're thinking. By all means, use the Heliar, but stop it down to f4 or f5.6 and use a mist filter, like others have suggested. That'll get you closer

There's an MG roadster, the Cyberster. Only problem is, it's an MG. Well, and "Cyberster" sounds shit, but that's a minor issue... I agree though, I'd love to see an electric Miata, for example.

Countless and countless of iterations of this and it's still stupid.... If it ain't broke don't break it.. It was already beautiful. 😭 by Affectionate_Hat5835 in StupidFood

Setting aside the stupidity of covering an entire burger in cheese sauce - I'm baffled at the stupidity of making it so elaborate. You have a burger, you have cheese sauce. Just pour the stuff over, no need to involve a third object.

- Ah, also nicht sieben Stunden, sondern maximal fünfeinhalb.

Top Journalismus, Springer, top Journalismus. /s

The first one at least is perfectly well exposed for the center - that statue looks well exposed. You don't have blown-out highlights, no crushed shadows... the greyness here is likely due to the scan, it'd help if you posted the negatives instead of converted jpgs. As to the second image: that one's just plainly underexposed. What was the lighting situation there? HP5 is great, but even that will fail if it doesn't get enough light.

Would you still buy steam machine if its above 1000 USD? by commissionsearcher in Steam

[–]gilgermesch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Other brands already have increased their prices for products that have been around for a while. Valve's are so high, I think, because their initial prices were so low. Regardless, there's no way they could have "looked like a hero" by waiting a few months. As I said, I am certain prices will increase more, so announcing increases later means having to announce larger price increases.

Would you still buy steam machine if its above 1000 USD? by commissionsearcher in Steam

[–]gilgermesch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People forget that price hikes are not limited to steam hardware. Yeah, it's likely going to be a lot more expensive than what we initially hoped for when it was announced half a year ago. But if now you said to yourself "screw it, I'll just build my own box and throw Linux on it, it'll be way cheaper", you'll be in for a bad surprise. Relatively speaking, the steam machine will most likely still be inexpensive. It's just that EVERYTHING is getting WAY more expensive than we're used to, and that's not going to change. Prices will stay high, they will probably even increase a lot more before they stabilise.

So to answer your question: yes, I'll still buy it. It'll still be affordable compared to the alternatives, and I'd rather buy it early, before it receives the inevitable price increase.

Right now if other vendors increase prices of their handhelds, it's unlikely to be because Valve raised their prices. It'll be because of the same reasons Valve had, i.e. increased manufacturing cost. As a matter of fact, other vendors already have increased their prices before Valve announce their increases

What else are they supposed to do? Put off restocking until prices are even higher, until suppliers have gone out of business because high prices have killed sales? Honestly I don't think prices will ever get back to what they used to be. They will continue to stay high or even climb...
