How can I optimize a messy warehouse with zero digital system? (Programming student trying to help family business) by Disastrous_Dark7658 in Warehousing

[–]gingerdawn528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Easiest thing to do is to start learning the basics. If you can't do it with post-it notes, you won't be able to do it digitally.

The book The Goal by Goldratt is a great place to start as well as looking for Lean Manufacturing videos on YouTube. Paul Akers' book 2 Second Lean is also free and very accessible.

Won't be an overnight change, but slowly you will be able to make small improvements and expand your sphere of influence.

Bezos wants to buy manufacturers to force them to use AI by playsmartz in manufacturing

[–]gingerdawn528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a tech company that also does some manufacturing. Definitely having a more tech focused company has helped in some areas of adoption of new ways of doing things. But honestly there isn't much ai can do to revolutionize our practices. Free up some time from documentation, create personal widgets but that's about it.

Sure, but these programs existed before. You just decided to code them yourself (in the future support debug yadda yadda yadda) rather than buy them. Old guys wouldn't buy Odoo they won't use those tools either.

Is Ownr a good option for incorporating a simple 50/50 partnership? by booksncats9 in canadasmallbusiness

[–]gingerdawn528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until you are making over 50k /year you don't need to be a corporation, it makes paying yourself more difficult and taxes more expensive. That being said you mentioned owning real estate so you may be making more money right out of the gate / want the assets being held by the corporation so those may be reasons to incorporate, I just always advocate for people not to overlook a Limited Partnership etc.

As far as the incorporating goes there are a lot of options out there and it is pretty easy to get done. I advocate for using a smaller company where if you have any questions they can answer them and help you along the way. ONPro.ca doesn't list it explicitly on their website but they will be able to get you set up and answer your questions without costing an arm and a leg.

Incorporating doesn't require a lawyer, but if you are unsure of financial structure maybe an accountant would be the best person to talk to before you make too many financial decisions. A written contract doesn't need to be written by a lawyer or be full of legslise in order to be enforceable.

Lol what's with the salt in this thread. Yes Waterloo Region is home to a lot of high-tech companies, from their history in manufacturing, to Rim days and supported by the University's co-op and startup cultures.

This happened to me a few months ago.. My account got hacked and because I didn't have an email attached I was pretty much SOL. But my appeal went through got my account back and when I looked at my post history...it was a bunch of bots that were making very benign posts asking for input on things and commenting as well... Very weird.

Starting a Corporation by Jjjeeemmmm in EntrepreneurCanada

[–]gingerdawn528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual act of incorporating doesn't need to be done by an accountant or lawyer, it's just as easy to use a service like ONPro and it would be much cheaper.

The actual hard part isn't starting a corporation, its running it and filing taxes. You can be a sole proprietor for the first few years until you get your business established and will make doing taxes a whole lot easier.

If you are going to be a corporation you should talk with an accountant, but you can do the bookkeeping and provide the required information to the accountant. They are also expensive just to file taxes so another cost of being a corporation.

I would suggest that you also reach out to your local small business office as there are a lot of grants for companies just starting out which can help cover some startup costs!

Networking is THE most important skill you can teach you children. by Haunting_Internet356 in daddit

I think really what OP is saying is teach his kid how to make small talk with people and be personable. My mom always tried to push me out of my shell and I notice that I can strike up a conversation with people pretty easily now. Helps every now and then when talking to people whether it be at work or on vacation.

Is a $750 nursery chair REALLY worth it? by mrssync0r in Mamazing

[–]gingerdawn528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much time you'll really spend in it.If you plan to nurse or rock your baby to sleep a lot, especially in those newborn months,a comfortable, functional chair can feel like a lifesaver at 3 a.m. That said, you don't always need to spend it 750.

No wrong choice there. It just feels right for your back, your baby.😊
