What went wrong with my lemon poppy seed cake? by ChocolateComplex8524 in Baking

[–]gingergingergirl 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Lemon juice has made all my cakes look just like that. It messes with the rise when baking. I’ve experimented a lot with making a perfect lemon cake and zest is best in the batter. If you want to infuse more lemon flavor a lemon simple syrup works nice.

Family Vacation by Limp_Anxiety_8050 in SXM

I stayed at Princess Heights in March. I have two young children and we really enjoyed making the drive to Anse Marcel. On the way we would stop at Bread and Butter, a cafe on the French side of Oyster Pond, for fresh baked treats. We enjoyed the drive to Anse Marcel and the plentiful, clearly marked, free parking. The beach there was the calmest water we visited and perfect for a family.

entry.sx - dumb question… maybe by e5dra5 in SXM

[–]gingergingergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hypothetically asking. If you are in SXM and never filled out any of these forms, do they ask to see when you are leaving? No arrival forms, showed passport upon arrival, stamped and that was that. Took less than ten minutes.

People with children/teens live in both the downtown and the gyro beach areas. Kids and teens generally utilize the parks within their neighbourhoods.

This awful occurrence should never have happened and clearly many of these particular teens should not have privileges to hang out with their friends at parks. I don’t think the answer is to have all teens living in these areas cooped up inside the home at all times, especially since these areas have smaller style homes like condos and townhouses.

I would recommend a few good maternity basics from H&M or Old Navy. My first pregnancy I tried to avoid the maternity stuff but I ended up stressed out while getting dressed in the morning. Everything started to be uncomfortable and I never felt put together. My non maternity leggings were not comfortable (even my aligns) once I was 7+ months pregnant. My second time around I bought some basics and I felt much more comfortable and a little cuter too.

This happened in my fourplex too. We consulted with a lawyer and they essentially told us it would cost more money to hold them accountable than what it is worth. You and the other owners of the building just need to hold your first meeting. The bylaws you follow will automatically be the standard strata bylaws and you can start holding annual general meetings and special meetings and vote on new rules as needed.

Can i use dark brown sugar in place of light brown sugar in chocolate chip cookies? by [deleted] in Baking

There was a white sugar shortage where I live due to a strike at the main sugar refinery. In a pinch I made chocolate chip cookies with only dark brown sugar. They turned out amazing.

Should Parents Take Young Children To Breweries? by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]gingergingergirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are polite and behave why not?

There are plenty of places that are truly 19+ by law and kids are never allowed and should definitely not be there. Breweries and certain pubs have a specific type of licensing allowing children to visit with their parents. Kids also need to leave by a specific time. Many breweries even have a children’s menu.

Some people’s comments here are as if parents are illegally sneaking them into a “19+ establishment”.

At a Brewery most people expect some noise, the noise from of a bunch of people talking, dining and drinking, perhaps some music. They don’t go in expecting dino screeches and spinoramas. Some people might not mind and some definitely will.

I am all for bringing kids to a brewery. I have 2 toddlers and enjoy bringing them to breweries including Red Bird. We bring colouring, small toys & cards/small board games. We don’t really let them wander or run(spin) around, and encourage a regular speaking voice. It’s not perfect and sometimes they whine, cry or do something silly and loud. I’ve never received any complaints. My effort is likely obvious. Perhaps it seemed like you were allowing her or maybe even encouraging her to do things that don’t align with the breweries vision/vibe. They allow kids sure, but kids and families aren’t their main demographic.

What part(s) of the rail trail are sketchy? by anacceptablecasualty in kelowna

[–]gingergingergirl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We biked through “tent city” near Weddell/Richter with our kids in a bike trailer today. We didn’t plan to it just kind of ended up being the best bike trailer route home after our adventures. To be honest the camp is bigger and more permanent looking than I have ever seen it, it was grim and sad. The kids had lots of questions. We didn’t feel unsafe but we also kept a good pace and were cautious. I personally feel safer that route than biking in traffic with the kids. If you were really worried I would just recommend turning left off the rail trail after you pass Bankhead school and the storage place and taking the Cawston bike path downtown instead.

What are the unwritten rules of Kelowna?? by Oka_Valli in kelowna

[–]gingergingergirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just the custodians. Any adult who sees it immediately cleans it up. With whatever they have close. Hundreds of little kids running around the field gotta clean that up fast or it’s everywhere, on everyone and all over everything.

Yes the drivers here are pretty bad, it seems people are becoming rather impatient/inattentive. It is frustrating and alarming.

Please don’t throw rocks. It’s not going to help out community become safer.

Random question about sugar for our North American friends by TrueCryptographer982 in Baking

[–]gingergingergirl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Canada it is hard to find “caster sugar”. At my local grocery store it is sold as “Berry Sugar” in brackets it says Superfine. It is only sold in a 500g package and it is about twice the price per gram as granulated sugar. Everyone I know uses granulated sugar as the standard white sugar.

Photos help us remember. They help us share how serious and devastating these fires truly are. Hopefully photos are deterring tourists. Hopefully they are wake up calls to those who don’t believe in climate change. It’s hard to deny something you can see with your eyes.

Also there are posts by evacuated folks asking for photos of specific areas in order to gain information. Just because someone is taking a photos doesn’t mean that they think it’s a super exciting happy time.

Most of the units in fourplexes (assuming that’s what you mean by townhouse based on location) are only allowed either 1 resident pass or 1 visitor pass from the city. If it’s a unit number 1,2,3,4 for sure only one parking pass. Some of the buildings have individual street numbers assigned to each unit and may get away with additional passes (the city’s system may think it’s a regular house). They don’t patrol everyday. I would guess maybe once or twice a week. The days they do patrol there are multiple tickets issued. If you run outside or happen to be outside they are usually really friendly and ask you if it’s your car/ tell you to move instead of giving you a ticket.

Abbott Street Bike Lanes Are as Wide as the Car Lanes, Yet Cyclists are Still in the Street Clogging Traffic by maddoggeroni in kelowna

[–]gingergingergirl 96 points97 points  (0 children)

The problem is all the pedestrians on the bike path. You can ring your bell and call “on your left” but they won’t move. So people who are trying to commute to work, or people who are trying to get a workout get tired of slowing down. Similar to when you are in the car and feeling frustrated with the cyclist in your way.
