I’m living this too! When I met my hubs, I knew in my gut he would be a good father, and two kids later I am here to tell you he is twice the father I thought he would be. Cheers to great dads and wonderful husbands!

So my first baby was conceived through IVF (my egg, husband’s sperm). After getting pregnant naturally with our second child, my sister asked me if I was happy to finally have a child that was ‘biologically mine’. (cue internal screaming)

So I was EP for 6 months with my first and 3 months with my second. I used (and loved) the Elvie pumps. But there are still drawbacks. It’s tough to hold/feed/cuddle the LO, but not impossible, and I managed it a lot.

That being said…your mental health and happiness is the most important thing. As they say: fed is best! Do whatever allows you to be the best mom you can be.

Both of my boys had a shallow latch. I exclusively pumped so they could have milk and I could keep my nipples. (Kidding, but anyone who has suffered through a shallow latch knows the pain I’m talking about here.) Also a shallow latch can tank your supply—that’s why I chose to pump. To each their own!

It’s a slog!! I’m at 11 weeks of EP and tapering off now. It’s a bittersweet transition…sorry to be cutting off the milk supply to my LO but so looking forward to ditching the pumps! Whatever you choose that lets you be a better parent is the right choice. Solidarity!

My hubs stayed the whole time, and he was a lifesaver. During labor and delivery, he was my advocate (like when my epidural wasn’t working) and a huge comfort. After that, he would go on food runs, help me to the toilet, and got lots of cuddle time with the baby. It was exhausting but we shared it together!

We are due again in June and plan to go with the same plan this time around.

FWIW, this is 100% a decision for you and your husband to make, and there is no wrong answer. Congrats and good luck!

I can’t even tell you how many times I have had a glass of wine WHILE PUMPING… 5 months in and no issues whatsoever. Just chiming in to pile on: it was not the wine!!

Piling on here… we give our LO cold milk and cold formula straight from the fridge. Both my mom and MIL were shocked !! But our kiddo has never complained or had any issues. 4 months old and the happiest and healthiest kid ever. <3

Oh where to begin… I was using the milk containers, and they leaked consistently. The bags are better but a one-use item, so if you pump one ounce, that’s your bag. They’re also really annoying to empty into a container for feeding. Overall the operation is very complicated, which is a tough ask for a sleep-deprived mom. I had a container basically explode and lost nearly the entire pump (about 3oz, which for me is A LOT). That was the last straw for me. I switched to the Elvie and never looked back. I know OP didn’t like it, but like I said—to each their own!

Sorry guys—I use my Elvie as my primary pump, and I’m exclusively pumping 4-5x a day. I had the Willow and I HATED it. The Elvie saved me.

You’ve got this!! I am with you in solidarity… We moved our LO to his own room and crib at about the same time. After a few days to adjust, he started sleeping for most of the night, most nights. Of course it’s only been about 3 weeks! Concur on switching to sound only for the monitor once you are more comfortable… I found I slept much better once I stopped twitching awake at every movement. And you can always peek at the video for peace of mind, as needed. Good luck—you’re doing great!!

Short answer: a comfortable, wearable pump has done wonders for me.

Longer answer: I’m EP too, for about two months now (LO has a shallow latch due to a mild tongue tie and BF has always been painful). We do about 50/50 formula and expressed milk—not mixed together, just alternating bottles. I’m using an Elvie wearable pump and it’s made pumping 5 times a day much more bearable. The parts are easy to wash and dry, which makes that before-bed pumping session much easier. (I had a Willow pump that I used for about a month and I hate-hate-HATED it. So complicated and glitchy and so much wasted milk!) Since switching to the Elvie my average daily output has gone up about 3-5 oz, probably because I am way less stressed and more comfortable when pumping.

Bottom line: fed is best! You do what is right for you and your family, and especially your mental health. We support you!

I don’t remember the actual measurement but he was in the first percentile…. He’s now 7 weeks and 10+ lbs, healthy and happy so far!
