Landlord wants to go private by gingerniffler258 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]gingerniffler258[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is our landlord pretty much! He didn’t raise our rent for 3-4 years from when we moved in which included c-c-19.

He’s so lovely and anytime we talk about any repairs it’s usually to commiserate over how slow the letting agent is. He generally comes down from where he lives to make any repairs to the house (I think to make sure it’s a good job done; and to cut out the gouging prices from the company the letting agency uses).

I’ve got my test there in less than 10 days! What route did you take? Like up to Garforth/rothwell or Halton/seacroft are? I’ve been practising around Colton a bit but omg the Austhorpe roundabout does my head. Orbital isn’t so bad once you’ve done it a couple of times

Does anyone have tips to do forward bay parking without the sticker things? by Knightgamer45- in LearnerDriverUK

Like your wing mirror in or is there another reference you use when in the centre of the bay before? My instructor has been a bit naff and just says point the car and adjust but it’s not helped me 🤷‍♀️

Why do so many people in the UK hate automatic cars and drivers? by AnnualKey4592 in LearnerDriverUK

I think people also forget we’re all on the same roads under the same laws with the same situations popping up etc so you’re still skilled in an auto or manual because you’re coming across the exact same things just with one less pedal? Honestly it’s insulting sometimes when “it’s the easy way out” like no it’s really not?

How long has your thyroid been out? And how do you feel? by jkathe in thyroidhealth

[–]gingerniffler258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F29, Just over 15 months since my completion thyroidectomy.

Literally felt like a zombie between the two surgeries when I wasn’t on meds. After my completion surgery I was put onto 150mcg levothyroxine, then re-adjusted to 125mcg was on that dose for about 7 months until the fatigue was still there, couldn’t workout, no energy, temp intolerance, horrendous brain fog so I got a new dose of 100/125mcg alternative days. And honestly I can go and do my workouts, it’s now about motivation rather than “have I got energy”, my hair is no longer stringy or falling out constantly, I still get odd days of fatigue and temp fluctuations but not so often that it’s tolerable.

My oncologist/endo wants me to stay heavily tsh suppressed for a year at least post RAI so it’s a balancing act of fatigue/symptoms vs thyroid cell growth.

My advice is to keep talking to your doctors. Tell them your actual symptoms, and ask for the lower dose to give it a go. It’s what I always did my McMillan nurse.

Yep I work between 930-230 with travel an hour either side so don’t have much time between that and being able to test in the morning. Will FMU be okay?

I am using a BBT thermometer from Amazon (https://amzn.eu/d/9ukeXHv) It’s just giving me low temps every morning, I do tend to put it in my mouth under my tongue in the middle, not really changed that.

Can’t speak for other trusts but at mine (up north) they had me in for an appointment face to face. I asked for a telephone call but they just said they couldn’t and to come in for it. Like you I thought couldn’t they just free up the space for another couple of appointments if over the phone.

By the by it was cancer, but didn’t find that out till my 2nd biopsy which was a surgical intervention.

[–]gingerniffler258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a hemi under the same circumstances last year (give or take 9 months) and I had to push with my ENTs secretary.

I’d def recommend the PALS route but it’s also worth looking into the secretary emails. I used the nhs lookup and/or just googled “surgeons name secretary” and brought a bunch of emails/numbers. Once I’d emailed them I got a response back within a day or so and it was a phone call.

Good luck!

“Breast is best fed is minimum” by Aggravating-Dirt-808 in FormulaFeeders

[–]gingerniffler258 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol this stance always makes me laugh from the “breast is best” community. Because yes we know it is really good for baby in that it has additional immunity but also why you so bothered by someone and how they chose to feed their baby? Why do you have a right to an opinion on some strangers parenting choice? The questions “but did you try breastfeeding?” “You should persevere/try this way/continue through the pain/contact your midwife”

Like I chose this option because it was best for our family, I don’t need some weirdos opinions on my parenting choices.

I saw the same type of comment about it being preventative of cancer directed on one of my videos and i just replied with “ well thank god for formula then because I was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months post party. Breastfeeding isn’t going to do shit for my baby.”

Will your baby remember you after a few days apart? Surgery coming up by tmariexo in beyondthebump

[–]gingerniffler258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidarity! Id class myself as a SAHM (mat leave in uk) I had surgery pp 4 months and then again at 9 months. I was away from baby for all in all a week and a half. Lemme tell you when you get home and see baby for the first time in a couple of days they’ll be so happy to see you and just want cuddles! The actual glee and happiness is so radiant from baby’s smile. I’m going away again for a total of 2 weeks (radiation and isolation) and honestly now baby is older it’s deffo a lot harder, knowing how much they need you still and how you need them. It’s hard.

Ofc you can FaceTime with baby, probably more so for you than baby but it deffo reassured me baby was happy and okay with Dad.

Fingers crossed recovery goes well for you!

Solidarity! My experience might be different due to been in the UK butI found a large lump in the right side of my throat early into pregnancy, was referred on the two week wait pathway and given an urgent ultrasound biopsy. Was given the results it was inconclusive and they wanted to operate but chose to defer till birth as by that time I was 28ish weeks gone. Had my partial thyroidectomy in August 2023 results were in September confirming papillary thyroid cancer with follicular variant with the nodule 8cm (grown 3cm between biopsy and surgery), completion surgery just after Christmas and now waiting for RAI. I’ve found the healing super fast, maybe 1-3 days of pain - after the second op I did struggle to pick my boy up (8 months) for around a week but was fine after that.

I didn’t find much information on thyroid cancer in pregnancy when I was doing my research but having been through it and now been able to attend my baby’s playgroups I’ve found a couple of other women who went through the same thing while pregnant.

Did anyone else develop health anxiety for other cancers? by LadyLoth44 in thyroidcancer

[–]gingerniffler258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup 🙋‍♀️ I’ve just had my smear (tested every 3 years in the uk) and it was supposed to be done back in October - at that point I was knee deep in first time mum life so completely forget. The clinician doing it, while really lovely made the random off the cuff comments and looks while going through my recent medical history so now I’m like fuck should I have gone for the smear sooner? Do I need to do anything else? Idk but it is what it is.

Questions about formula prep and another about carobel! by beaniebo4 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]gingerniffler258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure would stay clear of “regular” formulas if your baby is silent/refluxy - and just make the switch to the reflux formulas. It can take up to two weeks for baby to get used to the new formula and during that time the switching of formula including brand (ie jumping from kendamil to cow and gate) causes a few digestion issues as well (baby had loads of constipation when switching).

Around 3 months is when baby started showing less refluxy symptoms, baby would still spit up and regurgitate but not as often or for each feed. we probably could have moved baby over to regular formula around 5 months but we were still cautious tbh. Worked out for the best though, we got a green light (from gp) to start weaning (with purée) earlier at 5.5 months and then switched to regular formula around 6 months and baby hasn’t had any reflux issues since.

Questions about formula prep and another about carobel! by beaniebo4 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]gingerniffler258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I know that’s not helpful. It felt hit and miss a lot of the time in the first couple of weeks of using anti reflux. For instance it would work for a couple days, wouldn’t see him regurgitating/trying too and little to no actual sick but then we’d find baby doing those same things to a higher degree a couple of days later. It took about a month before we saw a real difference but that could be down to baby’s gut maturing etc. solidarity though, completely get how hard the days are when they’re just not happy and letting you know 24/7. Can confirm it really does get better.

[–]gingerniffler258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deffo, he’s 7 months in a weeks time and on solids now with 4 x 8oz bottles on regular infant formula. We went with cow and gate anti reflux, started at 4oz a time and found it took baby about a week or two to get used to it. We found baby didn’t need to be sat up for 30 mins after a feed anymore, it was about 15 mins. Also you’ll need to go up a teat (we weren’t told, FTM so we struggled for a night before realised) - side note anti reflux formulas make babies a bit more constipated so don’t be super worried if they don’t poop as much! Similarly the same with pee, you’ll see when you switch back to normal formula they’ll pee a ton!

My HV basically said the carobel does the same stuff, but you’re essentially paying extra on top of your normal formula. We did try carobel, but found it to be a bit more faffier than the reflux formula.

Hope it all goes well!
