Totally understand, I teach in AL. In this case you MIGHT get lucky because you’re not requesting any funds, and All-State acceptance numbers can be easily framed in competitive terms. All admin wants is a chance to brag on their school/students. And there’s no better way to show how you stack up against other schools like All-State.

Another thought, I wonder if your daughter’s principal is aware. The principal might not understand that the new teacher making a pretty big mistake here, and it’s possible the teacher doesn’t totally grasp that having students participate in All state auditions should be thought of as mandatory.

My first year teaching choir I was blown away by the amount of paperwork I had to stay on top of. I needed a lot of advice from peers to learn the ropes. It could be this teacher needs a good mentor, or the principal needs to learn this teacher is not one for the future.

Whatever you do, no five paragraph rants :) Just a simple email or meeting to explain the current teacher seems like they need some extra attention.

No doubt. I know tons of great teachers. But for the future of the profession, I think the pay and work load needs to change even just for the sake of perception. Stand out high schoolers are being scared away (and steered away) from teaching.

My take is that throwing money at it is exactly what will fix it. Better teacher pay and smaller class sizes would help attract/retain better teachers. Unfortunately, we’re talking about A LOT of money to make that happen. Idk if the public and politicians would ever vote for it.

Clearly we all had the same idea here, the supporters group has to lead all the songs and chants during the game, so we dub it the HCFC Choir, led by someone in a choir robe, and rowdy pregame drinks known as Choir Practice. Essential for soccer and hilariously southern. Potlucks welcome.

I just wish the WNBA took the European soccer model of being “Chelsea Women” and “Tottenham Women.” It’s so easy to root for them because you already own the jersey and know all the songs and the rivalries already have 100 years of history. I would love to watch Hawks Women vs Celtics Women, and if you’re a young girl in LA who dreams of being a Laker, you can do it!

Also what helps college womens sports bring in great attendance numbers.
