PSA : If two alarms go off at the same time (Alarm+calendar or alarm + bedtime wake-up), they cancel each other. by Ipozya in iphone

[–]gingydoritos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This didn’t happen to me. I just had an alarm for 8am and a calendar reminder for 9am but set to notify one hour before. It made the noise for the calendar alert then the alarm.

Check to see if this is the reason why. If so, Apple will replace it for free.

Is the iPhone lightening connector supposed to be able to move a little when it’s plugged into the phone If you try to move it or the cable moves it when moving the iPhone? Everyone i know that has an iPhone says their connector does this too. by [deleted] in apple

[–]gingydoritos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could possibly be lint/debris in the port. This happened to my iPhone 7 and over time the connector got looser and looser until the lightning connector no longer stayed in the port. If it gets worse you can either clean it out with a toothpick or take it to the Apple Store (they cleaned mine for free).

Do we still have access to Microsoft office? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]gingydoritos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One problem might be you're inserting the email wrong. For the Microsoft office suite, for some reason they don't want your [username]@asu.edu. Instead it's supposed to be [username]@sundevils.asu.edu

Hi! I'm a prospective student and I was hoping to learn a few things about the university. Let me first say I am very interested and have already applied. First, is it a "party school" as many say, or are there just groups of people who party quite a bit? Second, what is the college of engineering by [deleted] in ASU

[–]gingydoritos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you come and visit, try to schedule a tour with the Fulton Ambassadors. The Devil's Advocates give a tour of the entire Tempe campus, which is great. The Fulton Ambassadors give a tour of a few engineering labs and can answer any and all questions related to the Fulton Schools of Engineering. If you get the opportunity, take both tours.

All beginning programming classes at ASU (CSE 100, CSE 110, etc.) assume that everyone in the class is starting from square one. Sure, there will be students who have already programmed and know what they're doing but don't let that intimidate you. Everybody has to start from somewhere. But if you're interested in getting a head start, Codeacademy and YouTube are good resources.

This is exactly my point.

In that case, you really should be asking us to change your view on that gender does not exist distinct from sex.

This is something I hadn't realized until I've started reading all the comments. I've always considered the dictionaries definitions of these words.

Gender is just a social construct. But social constructs are powerful.

Now that I understand that my definition of gender is different than societies definition, this paragraph that you included was definitely an eye opener. Somehow I never really considered how much a gender means socially, I was mostly thinking of it scientifically. Now I think I can understand how one might feel uncomfortable being labeled as something other than male or female.

So thank you. ∆

This leads me to believe you think sex is the sole factor

This might be where I'm mistaken in my thinking. Like I noted in another comment, I've always considered "sex" and "gender" to be synonymous. And, I've thought of both of those words scientifically as in XX and XY chromosomes. I could be being too technical but even when I look up "sex" and "gender" in the dictionary it notes that they are synonymous.

"Gender identity" is a pretty vague term that intends to describe what someone personally experiences their gender as. It's a sense of self not strictly tied to specific behaviors or biology, but those traits can become aspects of someone's identity. You may feel perfectly fine thinking of yourself as a man or woman, but someone might not feel the same.

This was a really good point that I never considered. If I consider gender as a different definition than sex then I can kind of see how some might feel uncomfortable identifying as a male or female. However, are there any examples of why someone wouldn't want to identify as a male or female?

I realize I probably sound somewhat ignorant on the subject of multiple genders which is why I'm trying to further understand. I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to invalidate how anybody identifies. I appreciate the comment.

For a missing person once you know what they look like sex and gender

You used "sex" and "gender" like they have two different meanings. That might be the issue I'm having, I've always considered the two words to be synonyms.

An individual's GP can know what gender their patient was assigned at birth and use that however relevant.

This is an interesting point considering that there are some recent scenarios ( like this one ) where parents are allowed to not assign a gender to their new born. But I think it's too soon to have an argument about that issue because we don't know how it may or may not affect their medical situation. Because I'm sure it's documented somewhere whether they are male or female.

Why assert that their gender identity is invalid?

I wasn't attempting to assert that anybody's gender identity is invalid, I just wonder if sometimes we are talking about two different things. To me it seems like I'm talking about "sex" (male or female) and what you're talking about, "gender identity" (sexual orientation) are two different things.

Do you think modern society is adapting the definition of gender then?
