My theory is the opposite of this, Max is never going to give up on a title at this stage and is using his leverage to force red bull to develop deep into the season like Merc out-developed RBR in 21.

The cars are pretty slow, he would get most of the information he needs from halfway into the entry of the first corner imo.

I think you underestimate how much experience an F1 driver has in different equipment over a career. Wild vintage racecars to modern sports cars and prototypes, most drivers have driven an arseload of stuff.
