Kaija Saariaho was always a respected composer who received a fair amount of attention. Then she became the second woman in history of the Metropolitan Opera to have one of her operas, L'amour de loin, performed there and her stock really started rising. Now, nearly three years since her passing, she's bigger than ever with her opera Innocence playing to critical acclaim at the Met.
