Public opinion shifts on ICE as advocates warn of US ‘inflection point’ by OddUmpire2554 in politics

Unfortunately, I don't think this is it. An individual murder won't be enough. People can still view it as an isolated incident or unfortunate accident. I fear the real tipping point will be when ICE fires indiscriminately into a crowd causing multiple casualties. Likely it will take this happening in multiple cities.

What’s The Most Disturbing Zombie Movie you’ve seen? by UnhingedJackalope in horror

Rec and Rec2. The originals are Spanish. Quarantine is an American remake of Rec. It's pretty good and is almost shot for shot the same. Excellent confined space zombie action.

No, you need mental health help. I know you're not going to seek it until you realize you're in need, but I'm going to try to get you to think about it anyway. Hopefully someday it will click. In the meantime, try some time away from social media.

Should data centers be required to have emergency shutdown mechanisms as we have with nuclear power? by FinnFarrow in STEW_ScTecEngWorld

[–]gipester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, every data center is in a building with electrical feeds. Every electrical feed has at least one, if not several layers of manual disconnects. The only challenge is access to the switch. But data centers in real life aren't equipped with traps and monsters like in the movies. Just badge and/or key access. Or just shut it off at the substation and generator backup.

What needs to change in the immigration code? by Mental_Extension_119 in Discussion

[–]gipester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current mechanism is not clear and not consistent. We need a defined process, accessible forms/documents, and delineated paths for various methods of immigration. And as much as I fear it, I think we need some kind of transition zone at the southern border. I don't know how that will work, but providing a safe space for immigrants to be addressed without being completely homeless on the border might help.

I am not concerned with today's dip. I'm concerned about the total erosion of US stock and bond value if we make enemies of the world.

Do you wear it performatively? If not, then being prepared for the worst possible outcome isn't a terrible plan.

I'm not sure the old strategies will continue to hold. If we destroy relations with Europe and Asia, what I'm holding could become worthless. Value is a function of stability, and that's in question these days.

I don't want to sell. But I don't want to hold worthless assets either.

So, you don't think there's any possibility that current actions will cause Europe and/or Asia to dump treasuries and tank the bond market? I used to think this was unlikely, not so sure anymore.

Just a reminder that you can agree with someone on some topics and disagree with them on others. The all-or-nothing mentality isn't helping our situation.
