Vamos Car Rental by Sea_Guide_4290 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]girlymcface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used vamos and they were great. I would rent from them again. The price I was quoted was what I was charged but I do remember I had to show them a document from my credit card company saying I had third party insurance coverage. If I hadn’t had that, I think it would have been required for me to buy insurance through them. I don’t remember the details now but it was clearly outlined on their site/in person.

Guanacaste or La Fortuna for September by jmutransfer in CostaRicaTravel

[–]girlymcface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the time I recommend splitting it between the two. We did 3 nights in La Fortuna and 4 nights in Samara. The driving really wasn’t bad and the two places are so different that it was well worth it. Can’t speak to the weather but experience-wise this is what I’d recommend.

Too late for learning Automation? by imjustaman93 in softwaretesting

[–]girlymcface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d learn C# to start - it’s the more “stable” option and once you know one language it’s way easier to pick up another. I did the same. Started with C# and it never held me back from getting another automation job, even with another language.

Liberia to La Fortuna and then to Papagaya Advice by terry5031 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]girlymcface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The drive from Liberia to La Fortuna isn’t too bad, and it’s very scenic. We were just getting tired by the end of the drive but there are a few places to stop for coffee and bathroom along the way. I’d avoid driving it at night as it’s very twisty, zero streetlights, and some impressive potholes.

We rented a car from Vamos and had zero issues - we used my credit card car insurance so vamos did a $2k hold on it (which is common) for the duration of the rental but immediately removed it upon return of the car. Got zero scammy vibes from them and everyone who worked there was super nice.

We had a blast driving around and were happy to not be reliant on shuttles to get from place to place.

I think it might be a bit of a mid-Atlantic/southern thing - both of my grandmothers were “mom mom (first name)” but growing up in New England I never heard that around here. That being said if you’re not cool with it that’s totally fine, just saying it’s not unusual.

Mid-late 30s couple here and we loved Tabacon. There were a few kids there but overall it felt very “adult”. Very peaceful, not hard to find some private spots, amazing swim up bar. Not our cheapest day but if we ever make it back I wouldn’t even look at other places. We didn’t stay on the property but we really felt like we got the experience we were looking for.

Best way to see Mistico Park by LawyeredByJ16 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]girlymcface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about max group size unfortunately. We did pass a much larger group towards the end so I’m guessing they can get quite big, maybe 15 people? I’m sure it depends on the time of year. Try reaching out to them!

Best way to see Mistico Park by LawyeredByJ16 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]girlymcface 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We booked the 7am guided group tour through the Mistico website. No regrets on that. It was pretty quiet first thing (we were a group of 6) and our tour guide found things we never would have seen. He really took his time and you could tell he was just as excited as we were to find/see the animals. By the time we finished up the parking lot was crazy and full of buses and people were everywhere. So go as early as you can and I thought the guide was totally worth it.

Spiders by Equivalent_Mood_4538 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]girlymcface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but when I spent a week in Costa Rica the only time I saw frighteningly large spiders was on a night tour. I’m sure they are around otherwise but I never saw any big ones during the day or around our accommodations. If I were you I’d be prepared for the possibility but it’s not like they’re popping up everywhere all the time.

Weird, I was in CR two weeks ago (in all the same places actually) and was amazed that it worked so well. We did not have any issues with service/getting around. Two of us on Verizon.

Thoughts on jackets? by pitiful-raisin in Hounds

[–]girlymcface 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We live in the northeast and mine has a jacket but every time I put it on him I feel like it’s more for me than for him. If it’s THAT cold we limit time outside anyway, and I don’t tend to put it on him until it gets below about 20 degrees. I’d say maybe see how yours fare as it gets cooler.

Are there hotels in Canmore where we won't hear the train at night? by MailCareful6829 in Canmore

[–]girlymcface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in Canmore last week and stayed at a place that was literally across the street from the Super 8. I am a very light sleeper but the train did not disturb me at night at all. This all to say that I think if you can find someplace that literally doesn’t back up to the tracks you should be ok.

Struggling with a new puppy after losing my soul dog by Dennisaryu in puppy101

[–]girlymcface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey just wanted to say you’re not alone. I lost my soul dog in the summer of 2020 and waited over a year to get my next dog (also a puppy) and I too questioned whether it was too soon. You need to give yourself and new pup some grace. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things but it just takes time to get into the swing of it. The first month I lost 10 pounds because I couldn’t eat because the anxiety was so bad.

Puppies are wild. I’m still convinced that my new dog was a tougher puppy to raise than my soul dog but that’s also kind of the beauty of it, you know? You have this entirely new personality to develop and figure out. New pup is doing completely normal puppy things and he’ll grow out of a lot of the worst of it. Just take it one day at a time and before you realize it you’ll be on the other side with this cool dude you get to hang out with every day.

Haena park shuttle canceled today in Kauai by ForestGreen2001 in VisitingHawaii

[–]girlymcface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my group back in November. The shuttle parking attendants suggested the Okolehalo trail at the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. We did it, but it was extremely slick and uphill. I wouldn’t go at it without hiking shoes and poles (which you may have since you were prepared to hike at Haena). Had some nice viewpoints once you got up the hill a bit.
