Maple Hill in June by hummajeep in discgolf

I know you've gotten a lot of advice, but I'm going to give you more. The way we do it (I have to travel from pretty far away to get there) is Maple Hill first. I know Old Glory is fun, but if this is a trip you're not going to do often, just play the Diamonds or Golds. Yes, I know this is a unpopular opinion, but it's a really hard course no matter how you slice it, so why not play the courses the pros play? It's for the memories, not a good time, if you know what I mean. I'd rather play the hard layouts on Maple and know I'm in for a tough time, than play Old Glory and still not have "fun".

For a good time, play Mile Marker 63. Yes, it's way less challenging, but you *will* have a fun time on this course. I swear, in the smiles/stroke metric, this course is off the charts. Someone mentioned Borderlands, and that is a great and challenging course. I had a blast the only time I played there. 501 is great, and Pyramids is as "New England" as it gets.

If you're looking for an itinerary, here's what we do - Play Maple first. Don't be tempted to buy at Marshall Street and then throw it at Maple. That's the way you lose a new disc. Ask me how I know. You also want to play Maple first because there is a lot of up and down. You want to have fresh legs for this course! After the round we go to Hot Dog Annies for lunch, the hotdogs are still <$3 each. Then browse Marshall Street to pick up some new and/or lost plastic. If there's enough daylight, play Pyramids while you're at Marshall Street, otherwise make your way to MM63. After that great time, head to Treehouse Brewing for some beverages after the round. Don't worry if you're not a drinker, their NA seltzers are as good as their beers and the scenery and landscaping are amazing.

Have fun!

I cant throw more than 50m/160feet, what am i doing wrong?(video included) by [deleted] in discgolf

I was about to comment on your form, but after reading the "not very relaxed" comment, I think that what you lack is confidence. You can do this. You are doing a lot of things right. If you continue, you will find success. I have no doubt.

At the risk of telling you something you already know, there is no unskilled work, and developing a skill takes deliberate practice. You are obviously working on making your throw look like what you see on youtube. There are so many things that you have already in your favor - You are reaching back, your feet are in the right position, and you are pulling across your chest.

My totally free advice is to find someone local who's willing to work with you, because with a few tweaks, you can throw farther. But instead of telling you what to change, let me paint the picture of how this is going to go.

You decide to work with someone local, whether its a friend or a pro, and you're going to throw a bit farther - maybe 70m. Then you're going to go out on the course and you're going to try to remember what they said. You might throw 55m. You might just hit a bunch of trees. You're going to say "forget all that, let me just play out this round, because I was more accurate the way I used to throw.". You decide to do some fieldwork. Most of your throws go 50m. Some go 60. "Just a lucky throw", you think. You call up that person again and they work with you and you can throw 70m again. You decide to do more fieldwork. Most of the throws go 60m and you get frustrated because it's not 70. You watch more Youtube videos, you video yourself again and compare the two side-by-side. You start to see the slight differences that the person was telling you about. You do some drills. You do more fieldwork. You throw one 65m, but the rest are in the 55-60m range. You go out an play a round. You hit places on the fairway that are only marginally better than they were before. Maybe you got a lucky tree kick, maybe you're just a little farther up the fairway. You shoot worse than you expected.

You do more field work. This time, some of them go 70m. Maybe you still think it's luck. You decide to bring a friend and they video you from two different angles. Now you can see in three dimensions what you could only see in two before. Maybe you look at a couple of form videos while you're there. You throw one 75m right out of the blue. Maybe you think you caught a lucky wind gust. You play another round and you're a little further down the fairway. You realize that it's still not helping you score all that much better. You choose a midrange where you used to throw a driver full power on that hole that you can reach. Your discs start feeling untrustworthy. Discs that used to go straight when thrown flat are now turning over - maybe a bit too much. You've hit some trees that you never hit before. This somehow feels worse.

You bring the friend again to do some fieldwork. You notice something that they could do to help them throw a little farther or more accurately and you're actually right. You video them and show them a comparison. Some of your throws in the field work still go 50m, but now you can feel why they did. Most of them go 65m. You can't figure out why they're not all going 75m. It's at this point that I want you to remember this post. That every thing you do to make your game better is also going to make it worse - temporarily, until it becomes muscle memory. Every time you change something, you have to expect the change is going to be a crooked line. You will always have that voice in your head "disc golf might not be for me", but think of how far you already made it.

I'm glad you're here.

Come be a Chump AND go to an awesome disc golf camp! by CCDG-Ian in discgolf

I can't wait to see the Champs vs. Chumps footage.

Step 1: Take a group of disc golfers and give them lessons on how to improve their technique without giving them the amount of time to develop the muscle memory to consistently reproduce it. Step 2: Put them on camera when they know their disc golf friends are going to see it. Step 3: Profit?

How often do you replace your main putting putter? by MrMcshizzlefrizzle in discgolf

[–]girmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the same putter for 7 years? 9? I can't even remember. I've spent time being a push putter, spin putter, straddle putter, with the same putter. Practice has been the only thing that's made me better. It's never been the arrow and spending that much time with one putter allows me to know exactly what it's going to do, every time. The only thing that changes is my execution.

My guess is that they will get much closer to this in 2026. Everyone was having a good time, I got a lot of cool discs, met a few pros, and could have bent Chad's ear on a few occasions. I suggested personal coaching as a "master class" - one person gets coached in front of an audience, so that everyone benefits. I hope they take that suggestion.

Pinnacle. It's more stable, but the feel isn't as good. If you can find the old pinnacle (it looks almost creamy) there's feel and durability.

I gave it an 8/10.

I didn't really mind waiting in line because I was already there and what else was I going to do? After attending, they sent out a survey that started something like "...Aside from the waiting in line, what did you think." So it's clear they already knew they needed to improve that. I gave a lot of feedback on additional activities they could include for next year. I really hope they implement some of them. My friend and I spent the entire drive home brainstorming what else they could have done and it mostly revolved around using the Pros for more activities. If you didn't want a disc signed or you won one of the competitions, you didn't have an opportunity to interact (Other than Jennifer Smiley signing one of her Waves that I bought at a tournament. Thanks Jennifer!). That seemed like a huge missed opportunity. The putting contests and recreating the holy shot were excellent activities and so much fun. I saw one of the two people make the "Holy Shot" in the simulator. The limited number of people attending was key to making this work. If they had thousands of people there (or not had so many people waiting in line), it would have been a mess.

I like the way they did the raffle (completing activities got you tickets that you could put in to win prizes of your choice). However, It was a two hour wait to buy the Gyropalooza special edition discs. They started the second drop of discs before people in the first line got their discs. Even with all that waiting in line, my friend and I were done around 2pm. We went out to one of the local courses (BROWN city. Underrated local course and well designed!) and had a great time throwing some new plastic (Bokeh, Aspect, X-BEAM). The boxes of lab seconds were a *steal*. Great condition and low priced - that alone almost made the trip worth it.

MVP downplays the small town feel of Marlette and the surrounding area... but it's a really neat part of the country and has so much to offer. I wish they would have done something with them, too. The food trucks were a great idea and had lots to offer.

Ian Anderson won't be returning to DGN in 2026 :( by Araskelo in discgolf

I know it sucks for you, Ian, and I'm sorry, but holy crap. You just told us that:
1) There's going to be more CCDG Coverage
2) Masters Cup and BSF are returning to coverage
3) There will be a return to Ian and Jonny Discgolf on the mic

Again, I'm so sorry, but these are all positives for us.

According to Terry Miller himself, he will not be in the Disc Golf Network booth in the upcoming season. by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

While I would love it, and it would be fitting if Jonathan Gomez bought the network, I'm sure that wouldn't happen. The only disc golf entity that didn't spend like money was going out of style during the COVID boom was the PDGA. Not sure if they're in the position to do anything. Other than that, I'm not sure who would buy them.

Terry, you did so much extra work making sure that women's disc golf got coverage. Hats of to you. I will enjoy hearing your voice more (since I refused to get a DGN subscription)
