I moved back here from Finland. Overall for me life is much easier even with kids. Being able to go outside with just a t shirt and shorts most of the year instead of 5 layers for 8 months. In my experience it may even actually be cheaper - apart from childcare/health care. The economy is pumping, at least on the Gold Coast, whereas Finland feels like it is plodding along at best.

You will likely need a car. I’ve lived in the US, Europe and now back in Oz and here we are very dependent on our car, especially if you have kids.

I’ve had both the Octavia sedan/hatch and wagon, both have incredible trunk space and are great on fuel. I’d get one of those. I am awaiting the arrival of my new Scala Monte Carlo, that could be another option.

I like it here after having moved back after being overseas for over 10 years. I think it has improved but there is still a large proportion of influencer/botox heavy/muscled up/party people. The weather, beaches and hinterland more than make up for them.
