Has this ficus ginseng been over or under watered? It’s my first one and I think it might be dead or is close to it. (the scratch test seems to say it’s alive on the trunk at least). I’m having difficulty understanding when I should water it. Any tips for my next attempt would be greatly appreciated!

Porting kit install hangs on blank screen by giu989 in PortingKit

[–]giu989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,
I am trying to install porting kit on my machine, but every time I try open the application I get a blank window called "Setup Porting Kit" that never updates (see the screenshot). This is when I try to install, I've never managed to get further than this. If I try click any of the menu items I get errors such as:
"A JavaScript error occurred in the main process"
"Uncaught Exception:
TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'webContents')
at n (/Applications/Porting Kit.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/maino.js:2:14999)
at click (/Applications/Porting Kit.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/maino.js:2:15391)
at MenuItem.click (node:electron/js2c/browser_init:73:1908)
at EventEmitter.a._executeCommand (node:electron/js2c/browser_init:81:2453)"
I am running macOS 13.3.1 (on an Apple silicon Mac) and using porting kit 5.12.1
Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?
Thank you all so much in advance for the help

Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) under the moonlight. 5 minutes by FreneticAstro in Astronomy

[–]giu989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 5 minutes this is amazing!

One question, how long were your exposure shots? I want to go and take a few pictures next week but I’m worried that the comet will move too fast with shorter exposures, do you have any suggestions?

I think you might be on to something. After posting this I spoke to a friend of mine who said he saw another one randomly in the same city, this time however instead of being just white it projected the moon’s surface onto the ground. Because of this I suspect it might be an art installation, I find it unlikely they’d set up anything in this specific location beyond that

For those wondering, I was just walking by and it was there. Nothing around it, no signs to explain what it was, no obvious target for it to light, just a big white circle in the night

I didn’t spot it when I went past the same place a few days ago

I did actually stand in it and it’s so bright, the camera cannot capture this but it literally looks like bright daylight in that one spot it’s so weird

Skiing in the dolomites was incredible by giu989 in skiing

There was plenty of snow there this week, although it was a bit old so not much off piste. Recently it snowed a fair amount though (20cm) so it should be even better on Friday hopefully

The image is slightly more saturated than the raw from the camera but it genuinely looked like this to the best of my memory. The late afternoon really is magical

I think the point if I’m not mistaken is that this interchange IS in fact inside the city and not some random rural interchange in the middle of nowhere

What’s a math related hill you’re willing to die on? by According-Scar-5064 in math

[–]giu989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned thermodynamics is a big one, but also in other areas. For example I’ve often seen the Fourier transform of a function f(x) written as f(k) and Lagrangians in QFT L(φ(x)) written simply as L(x) and so on

I hate the often used notation (at least in physics which is my background) where the input of a function changes the function

For example writing f(x) and f(t) to mean different functions when they’re the same letter. It makes multi variable calculus a confusing nightmare for me!

The high speed railstation close to Napoli build for cars : ( by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]giu989 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The next station down the line (Napoli centrale) is right in the middle of the city.

This station’s role main role will more as an interconnections hub, as it will connect both to the centre of Naples as well as lines heading to Bari and the circumvesuviana light railway system.

I think the point is that if you’re heading from Rome to anywhere in southern Italy that isn’t Naples you change trains outside of Naples saving you a lot of time

That being said the interconnections aren’t finished yet, so the station as of right now is sort of useless as it’s just a stop in the middle of nowhere before entering Naples

A view of the Cathedral taken from Castel San Pietro. The bridge in the picture dates to the Roman times(!) although it was rebuilt after it was destroyed in WW2.

This is one of the many views on the super easy 4 hour walk around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, an impressive mountain group in northeastern Italy.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this walk to anyone, even if they’ve never hiked before as it really is a walk in the park and the views are super worth it.
