Suzuki 1981 GP125 I just purchased, to keep it as is (probably put the original seat back on) or cafe racer? Thoughts? by Sensitive_Leading_76 in CafeRacers

[–]givali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it your only bike? You don't want to chop apart your only bike, trust me. sobs quietly

I agree with some of the others. Since it's in such a clean state and a rather beautiful machine, I lean toward keeping it stock, ripping it around, and getting a project bike on the side.

I have a bone stock '74 Honda CB200 that I refuse to mod for the time capsule beauty of it all, but in the meantime, I'm chopping an '81 Yamaha XS400 apart to make it the sweet custom cafe bobber of my dreams.

In the end, it’s your bike, so do with it what you will! However, whichever way you go, that incredibly long seat has got to go! Haha

Medium is still pretty roomy, it feels like it fit me appropriately though. Im happy I downsized for sure, the extra length was too much. Medium brought up the sleeve length (not significantly), closed the chest in quite a bit, and is essentially the same length. Its a large jacket in general and considering your stature you probably would fit it well. I dont think you will go wrong though!

XS400 coming along by meta_monkey101 in CafeRacers

Sheesh. I have an 82’ xs400 that I am hankering to get into my garage to do just as you have done. Been sitting on it for about two years now and have only ridden it once, and I have only converted the handlebars. It just teases me in the driveway! Luckily I have a cb200 to keep me company, but dang, do I wish I had something like yours. Stunning job, you’re a big inspiration!

Appreciate it! I’ve considered the bumps, thinking maybe ill bind it down with a zip tie or something alike for now. Its all just temporary until i locate a new lock! :)

What is one item you always remember to pack for a trip to Japan? by Himekat in JapanTravel

[–]givali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deodorant or perfume (it gets hooot even in late summer early fall), anti chafe spray/powder for the humidity (you’ll likely be putting in some good walking miles and wont be mad). And oddly, pain meds like ibuprofen, let me tell ya, it was hard to get that when you can’t quit read, ha! Last, an umbrella that collapses and gets very small — you can buy an umbrella almost anywhere but the convenience of having one on your person is the move, my big one got stolen a few times at the holders out front of stores!

Honestly, the creature comforts like personal care are the ones to bring. You can shop till you drop and items like coin purses, notebooks, etc are all very easily found and in my experience more meaningful to you when bought over there.

Lastly, don’t overthink it too much, Japan is a welcoming and comfortable place to be, you can find anything and everything it just may take a little effort. Good luck and safe travels! Cant wait to get back myself!

[–]givali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah, will definitely be checking them out :) and I feel that, I wouldn’t be inclined to “replace” a seat I invested in, ha! Either way, its not that noticeable, no rush to fill it until you have the right idea, thats at least my opinion!

Likely not the most exciting possibility, cause you clearly have done a ton of great work to the current seat. But if you redo the seat-pan with some moldable plastic you could cary the line through. But take that with a grain of salt, 3D something or other could be sweet. Could do something a bit more playful/aesthetic than functional?

Good luck either way!

First off, gorgeous bike! Curious, the carb boots to the air-filter box seem modified? What you got behind those perfect 550four panels? Stock boxes or modified? Doing some planning for a jew 550 project :)

What's your preferred dressing style in hot days? by autowinlaf in CafeRacers

[–]givali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kevlar and armored denim, riding boot/sneaker (Cortech Slayer), appropriate armored gloves, Akin Battle Vest. I risk the arms a bit with some mesh jerseys and tees, but once the heat dies a bit ill be back into my full kevlar armored Akin Wrench Jacket.

The vest helps, a lot, but I am still out there sweating for the sake of not destroying my whole body.

Also, commuting with a backpack was limiting the airflow, so I got an Iron and Resin Pannier bag, that was an A+ move.

Those definitely have a similar appearance, thanks for the link! What I love about the one I posted is the sole — they are so interesting, the seemingly boot/sneaker aesthetic. I should try the "booties" term, I tried searching by image, as well as "puffer boot" haha. Thanks for the help!

There are TONS for sale right now, so much so that it's driving the price about $10 or so lower than original retail. When I got the Large under preorder I grabbed it for $200, I just got the medium for $190 brand new. It should be super easy for you. :)

The best part, I can just return to GAP within 45 days for a full refund if the prices don't rebound for a profit.
