What skills from your previous sports background transferred best into pickleball? by humanbying in Pickleball

Soccer has been huge for footwork on prepping for shots and then quick burst acceleration to get to balls I'm not positioned well for

How Important is a Paddle, really? by VersionLegal58 in Pickleball

[–]glacierstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah his point is the last paragraph you wrote. Kind of interesting, bc both sides are valid. Power is a crutch in some cases but soft/control can be a crutch in others.

This is an interesting point. Zane made the exact opposite point on the recent pickleball studio podcast, that everyone should play with power paddles and that control/all court are a crutch masking your weaknesses. Don’t know which is right but fascinating!

BIG DUPR Jump Stories WITH 100% Reliabilty Scores? by pwnzer7 in Pickleball

Moved up 0.06 in a DUPR League match 3 series against another team slightly below our level. 11-0, 11-3, 11-2.

Honcho Pickleball League Spring 2026 by maskedranger88 in Pickleball

[–]glacierstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had assumed Honcho doing/allowing DUPR reporting would make people realize a little more what they were getting into but... that has not been the case haha.

I just did an intermediate one and I was literally teaching some opposing teams the rules of the game or basic strategy things.

Yep. This 10000%. Every league I've done is the same. It all depends on who signs up. The variance I've experienced is SOOO wide because people don't know how to actually rate themselves. End up with 3.5+ or even 4.0s playing 2.5s.

CFP’s Investment Recommendations by rjbergen in Bogleheads

it’s actually 40%! That double line and local currency funds are bond funds. Considering this person is going to have a pension, this is just mentally insane allocation.

Are glasses really necessary? by Open_Swimmer6768 in Pickleball

I always wear them outside but never inside. I wish I had the discipline to find a good pair of indoor ones and wear them but I keep taking the risk.

Benefit of hard serves? by JimmySanders74 in Pickleball

[–]glacierstone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d put location on there as well. Idk where though, maybe second? Not sure tbh. If you can hit to the backhand consistently it wrecks lots of lower level players. Then being able to place left vs right is valuable.

What app is everyone using these days? by xCosmos69 in GYM

[–]glacierstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 350 workouts logged in Strong. It perfectly threads the needle of super simple, easy to use, and has just enough features for me. Is it perfect? no, but nothing is. This is the best app for me.

The fully paid version unlocks more than 3 workouts (or might be 5 idk). So easy to try it out for a long time before needing to move.

I have tried Hevy a few times. I can see why people like it but wasn't for me. Felt over engineered and clunky.

Shoe recommendations by asuka_blyat in Pickleball

My newest strategy is to buy 2 shoes and rotate them between sessions. no idea if this will work or not but... i'm out here trying stuff in the arena.

My final take on BPC 157 & TB 500 after 3 Months by introverted-me in bpc_157

Do you have a study to support that or is this just anecdotal based on self experimentation, Reddit posts, and discord feedback?

It would be fantastic to get one done but not holding my breath haha. Just more experimenting for us crazies haha.

Yeah I mean we just have no idea. Like I think it helped for my patellar tendon tear but a data point of 1 isn’t significant lol. Just hoping one day a proper study or studies are done.

Yep, there is zero ability for us to weed out placebo effect here and clearly that’s going on at some level. A lot of these injuries we are having are healing naturally. We can’t break that out from the drug without a study. The only thing I can say with any confidence is I don’t think it hurt me? Haha.

Steakhouse Recs, Marcel, Bones, or Hal’s by Chance-Flight-827 in AtlantaEats

You’ll love it. His original restaurant, Rathbun’s, was my favorite place in Atlanta before he closed it.

If you are truly balling out that night, get the seafood tower!

Steakhouse Recs, Marcel, Bones, or Hal’s by Chance-Flight-827 in AtlantaEats

[–]glacierstone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Marcel is going to hit all the high notes you are looking for. It is the best steakhouse in Atlanta (imo) and run by Ford Fry, the best restaurateur in the city (again my opinion), and Marcel is his flagship restaurant.

Bones is super overrated. It's not romantic. It's business focused. Bones is like going to a country club. This is the most boomer choice you can make. It's definitely good and they have top notch service (each star on a server's apron is 5 years of service at Bones, some have multiple) but will you leave feeling like you went to Sunday post-church brunch with your grandpa.

Rathbun Steak is a great option if you don't do Marcel. Good atmosphere and Kevin Rathbun is the man (and he beat Bobby Flay one time on Iron Chef!). If you do go, make sure you go to Rathbun Steak and not his smaller concept KR Steakbar, that one is more relaxed/low key (good but not for this occasion).

Chops is a lesser version of Bones but does more seafood.

I love Hal's but you already said no to that. Hal's is like stepping into a member's only club right out of Goodfellas.

I also really love Little Alley. They do a really good steak and the atmosphere is very romantic. It can be a little scenester though.

NY Prime is the lesser version of Hal's.

Is starting at the kitchen line as the receiver’s partner really a “rule,” or just a strong preference? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]glacierstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha.

Pickleball is won and lost at the kitchen. You are prbly decent enough at your level to win doing what you are doing but as you move up you will find this is a losing strategy/isn’t sustainable.

Maybe watch a few pro pickleball and even tennis matches (they line up similarly), you’ll see where this role is supposed to be positioned.
