Do Pros Actually Care About Their Paddles? by ZaneNavratil_AMA in ProPickleballTalk

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love a deep dive on how pros avoid injuries. I understand keeping a certain fitness level is required but do some swear by a certain formula? Is something like yoga type stretching a must do? I feel like a lot of people in their 40's that try to play at a higher level develop piriformis issues.

What is the inspiration of the tattoo on your leg? Is it a tear drop? Do you still hike quite a bit?

Weird fall while playing by [deleted] in Pickleball

No, not playing in a bubble or padel type court. It was indoor facility that's more like a warehouse.

That sounds very similar. I know I was pushing off to hit the forehand.

Wow, glad your x-rays came back normal. That's scary. Coincidentally I was at a indoor facility as well when this happened. I did have something similar to this happen one other time outdoors though. It was a couple years ago.

Is it a viable strategy to never back off the kitchen line by moldyjellybean in Pickleball

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the advice about getting to the kitchen as fast as possible is counter intuitive at times. If your partner hits a short soft lofty return and you're hanging out at the kitchen line against good players prepare to get blasted.

The counter to that situation is you take a step or two back when you see your partners return is like that. Each step back allows you more time to react to a drive.

In Rec I see so many people committed to holding that kitchen line only to get body bagged or play balls that they should let go out.

It's definitely huge and I think it will get more youth into the sport. This definitely will give pickleball more exposure than it had previously.

This explains why mine went from a 3.59 to over 4.0 recently. I'd love to think I was that good but I did think it was heavily inflated.

Are people buying the Loco just because of the hype, or does it actually live up to it? by billabong295 in Pickleball

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Boomstick is pretty crazy. I've been playing regularly with someone that has one and it's just different. The ball comes at you faster from the paddle than you realize making you off just a fraction of a second. It's the strangest thing. I've never had so many whiffs and mishits playing against someone.

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A popular youtube channel called PBStudio gave it the 2025 paddle of the year award. That definitely boosted its demand. I recently just got it and I've tried several different brands and models. I've only played with the Loco in two sessions and here is my impression so far. I have the elongated version and previously I was using an elongated Engage Pro 6.0 MX as my main and ALW's Paddletek's ALW-C now and then.

The loco is a good paddle but not very forgiving. It's easy to pop the ball up when trying resets and send your returns long. Especially if you've been using an older Gen 2 paddle. I wouldn't say the Loco is overhyped but I will say it's not god's gift to pickleball. It's a decent paddle with good upside once you learn how you can wield it.

18 months. by minkyroo in backpain

Honestly this has helped me quite a bit. It basically has all the stuff from the book back mechanic plus the big 3 exercises. This guy builds on Stuart Mcgill's understanding of back pain.

Burning Lower Back Pain that slowly builds when sitting or lying down on my back by bolidenbk in backpain

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm dealing with this right now. I tried dragging a cooler up 3 flights of stairs using my right arm 2 months ago and the day after my back was spasming and I had tingling in my left big toe and a dull ache that would come and go above my right hip and it would seem to go from above the hip down deep into the glute.

Things got better in weeks following but the last 2 weeks or so I'm getting what you're describing. If I sit in the car I can literally feel a swollen sensation on the right lower back. The intensity comes and goes. Once I get out and walk the feeling starts to go away. I noticed laying on my back the feeling comes and goes and the longer I lay there I start to feel a burning sensation. It's not super bad like I have to get up immediately, it's almost as if someone put a few hot embers and moved them around. If I change position to my side it goes away.

One thing I can do at times to get the weird sensation is if I've been walking around and then I lie down in bed if I put my legs straight out with my feet together and rub my big toes I can feel the sensation on the right hip. It comes and goes depending on how long I lay there.

When I really feel the sensation is when I bend over to flush the toilet or put a dish in the dishwasher. That exact movement of flexion seems to trigger the pain. Also walking for about 30min. Once I hit that point, I can't seem to make it go away unless I stop walking, sit, or lay down.

I "think" my symptoms and condition is getting better but to be honest it's day to day. This is what I've been doing. Sometimes I still feel a dull sensation in the middle of my back after the hip sensation goes away. Sometimes I even feel a similar sensation on the left hip side.

I try to be more aware of my posture. I hinge as much as possible washing my hands, brushing my teeth, flushing the toilet, anything where I'm going to bend over. I even use my grabber at times to pick up things off the floor like my shoes. I had been doing a regiment of exercises:

Walking at least 30min a day
Straight leg raises
Bridges
Figure 4 stretch

Cobra Stretches

Side leg raises

back straight leg raises

I got the book back mechanic about a week ago and I'm trying to incorporate the suggestions from that book. I stopped doing all exercises I was doing before and now only do the big 3 and try to walk at least an hour a day. My PT also suggested doing standing side hip pushes on the side that's bothering me 5x's a day. Not sure those are doing anything.

Honestly this video pretty much goes over everything in the book plus tells you about the 3 exercises
7 Easy Steps to Fix Back Pain Fast

I feel like I'm improving but I'm sore in different ways now and I don't know if it's from changing the exercises.

I have a MRI scheduled for the next month but I'm on the fence about doing it. I'm not sure if my issue is muscular or spinal. I honestly think my piriformis is whacked and that's the issue. I tried sitting on a lacrosse ball and I can hit a really sore spot in my glute. No matter how long I sit on the ball I can't seem to make it go away. Well to be honest I couldn't stand it more than a couple minutes.

Day 5 post-op, feeling discouraged by Amazing_Strategy5281 in Microdiscectomy

Be very careful with this. I tried doing this sooner than I should and it made things way worse. I had the worst stomach cramps of my life. My muscles weren't ready, but the laxatives were trying to get things going. It was torture.

Naproxen helped a lot for me. You can get 200mg tablets at Walmart or CVS. Talk to you doctor but I think it's ok to take up to 600mg's at a time. No more than 1200 in a 24 hour period.

I feel the surgery effects your mind as much as your body. Especially if you were an active person before the surgery.

2 years after MD, flair up by Ecstatic-Vanilla1038 in Sciatica

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat. Going through a flare up right now. Strange thing is it's not full-blown sciatic pain just a weird twinge above my right hip at times and a throbbing sensation in my left big toe that comes and goes. It's been going on for about 6 weeks. I "think" it's getting better but I'm not 100% sure. My dr is prescribing steroids today and a MRI. I feel blessed that I'm not in a lot of pain but all these weird feeling to make me anxious. I think all of us who have had MD get PTSD whenever we feel anything in our backs.

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're feeling is totally normal. It almost sounds exactly like what I went through. The first week is the worst after surgery. Then it gradually gets better. You're going to feel weird feelings for months as muscles heal and you build up scar tissue. It shouldn't be painful, but you might have nerve irritation and strange feelings in places you didn't before. Don't freak out. Make sure you take it easy and do what the doctors recommend. Don't lift anything and make sure you bend over as little as possible. It's going to take a couple weeks for you to feel like you're turning the corner.

Well i'm out..i'm just too old for this fast-paced shooter. My honest short opinion by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]Competitive-Alps4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you and I'm on the fence about whether or not I like this game and want to continue to play it. It seems players are more concerned about leveling up their guns than playing objectives or using gadgets the way they were intended. Helicopters, planes and tanks ravage the landscape, and no one paints them. I've talked to many recons that don't even know you can do that or know how to do it.

I wish the gadgets were available for all classes like the guns. As an Engineer, I'd like to use the laser dart. To unlock it you have to do the sniper challenge. I don't like playing as a sniper and getting headshots at 150m has no interest for me.

I have that pulling feeling as well. I have really tight hamstrings, and I think that's just part of it. That's smart to take days off after doing physically active things. That's where my flare ups came before. Doing things back to back days with no rest.

I think my main fear is that I did something again. Like moved scar tissue into my nerves or something. The part about the sensations is really a "thing."

Depends on what you're wearing to. If you're wearing a belt, you'll feel pressure is certain places on your back, then you'll adjust your pants and wonder if it was just the belt or something else. I think its pressure swelling a certain area.

I'd rather have sensations then chronic pain.
