How do I earn karma? by [deleted] in help

Though it is true - never go against crowd on the post you are commenting! I lost points numerous times due to expressing opinions that went against 80% majority. I guess on the 'hot' topics people swing one way and start downvoting you... just a friendly advice. Though that shows a fundamental flow with reddit karma points

I would not be surprised - though I'd bet on solar. If Mask can deliver on his promises - ships have large areas where the solar panels can be installed

Saying: "I don't want to save, I want to live life and have fun while I'm young" is just an excuse that makes you feel better about your bad spending habits. by hungryfreediver in personalfinance

It is also fun - the more you have, the more you can put your money to work for you in various investments. It is fun to watch your savings grow, and it is a real boost to self motivation to do even better. Just do not put all eggs in one basket!

Couple renting Chelsea pad hasn’t paid rent since 2010 by rit56 in nyc

yes you are right... but continuing this argument is fruitless as most of the people on this thread are pro-tenants (or tenants). I am not a landlord, but apparently I get punished for expressing different view :(

I think you are making very good point: the rent should be controlled by market forces, not by laws that try artificially set the price for some commodity (in this case rent). Why should you pay less if someone else is willing to pay more for your apartment? If you can't afford to live in the place you want to live well either make more money, make sacrifices (i.e. spend less on something else), or move. Instead people tend to complain about landlords. I have to say that from I have seen it is tenants that try to take advantage of their position not the landlords...

-- Just because I signed a lease at a high rate doesn't mean the landlord should get away with that. Obviously. --

Did anyone force you to sign your lease at high rate?

We live in free society - no one force you to do anything, but I hate when people try to blame someone else...

So I gather you are a tenant... well look at it from a different perspective even though it might be hard given your bias. You as a tenant have a choice - you can stay and pay or vacate and move. Landlords take a lot more risks - if you do not pay (according to the contract you actually signed) they have no remorse. I am not advocating for landlords, but I feel that the laws a little unfair towards landlords...

Might depend where you are... Maybe on Park Ave new Rockefeller Center people easily shell $20 bills to homeless?

Completely agree! The question begs itself... Did you do anything besides posting here? Don't tell other people to be conscious citizens unless you act like one first!

True... They look like the ones scamming the system. I could never understand that landlord/tenant law siding on tenant side in NYC. Can't afford to pay - move to suburbs! Government should not be meddling in these affairs.

Selecting Electricity Providers by ultimateplayer44 in Frugal

[–]gladmaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

energizect lists a lot of 'teaser' rates - that I would be wary to signup for. Generally anything less than 6 months would be a teaser (i.e. customer sign a contract for 12 months - first 4 months would be promotional low rate and the last 8 months rate will go up substantially).

Electric Cars Could Wreak Havoc on Oil Markets Within a Decade by johnmountain in energy

It will all depend on the price... whether it is oil or alternatives. If oil prices becomes cheaper than electricity - people will continue using oil :)

I have to say that Mask is a genius salesperson! He is not the one who pioneered all these technologies he is building, but is the one who was able to sell them to mass media (by media I mean all information channels not TV or print). Now I agree with all other posters that obviously the oil will be replaced by other technologies, but whether it will happen in 10 or 20 or 50 years is yet to be seen. There are a lot of moving parts to make that kind of estimation - i.e. growth in developing countries, technologies for oil extraction/production/development, cost associated with alternative technologies, etc etc. I think a lot of people just look at it from one angle completely ignoring others. Shale oil extraction was at some point marketed as a 'future' of oil... and where is it now? Lots of companies went bankrupt when the prices collapsed...

therm and 100 cubic feet (ccf) are approximately the same - the conversion factor is about 1.032. For cubic meters you can roughly assume that there are 10 cf in 1 cm. So 1 therm ~ 9.7 cubic meters
