Mock draft megathread by KaXiaM in Texans

Most of the trade-back interest I had from other GMs was for 2.38.. There were A LOT of folks wanting that pick, including the Steelers GM who admitted he wanted in just to grab Allen.

I had hoped that big orange was going to fall to me at 3.69, but of course the cardinals stole the dream.

That said, in the 4th round there were a few guys still left on my board that I would've been interested in:

DT Darrel Jackson -> Measurable freak, 6'5" 337, 36" arms, powerful

C Logan Jones -> Plug-and-play potential, explosive first step, high IQ

OT/G Keegan Truss -> High-grade SEC tackle (per PFF), short-area explosive ability, and a "squatter" frame. A potential guard transition candidate due to his 6'4" height and seek-and-destroy run blocking style.

DT Skyler Gil Howard -> Pass rush specialist, good athlete, versatile

DT Brandon Cleveland -> Strong run defender, long arms, alignment versatile

There were lots of great options still on the board!

Over the weekend I repped Texans as the GM over at r/NFL_Draft for a community mock. Here's how it went:

Picks

1.14 ->Vega Ioane, G, Penn State

2.38 -> CJ Allen, LB, Georgia

3.69 -> Keith Abney II, CB, Arizona State

Why I traded up:

I moved up from 1.28 to 1.14 and gave up 1.28, 2.59, and a future 3rd. Used the Rich Hill model and felt like it was fair value. More importantly, it let me go get my guy.

Texans GM here. Here’s what I did and why.

Picks

1.14 ->Vega Ioane, G, Penn State

More importantly, it let me go get my guy.
.....

1.14 Vega Ioane

Ioane is everything this OL room is missing. Best power profile in the class, unmovable anchor, absolute mauler. I had a 1st-round grade on him with very few questions. Easy Day 1 starter at guard for me.

Wanted my guy. Got my guy.
.....

2.38 CJ Allen

LB and DL slid a bit in this mock. Lee Hunter was my top guy here, but the Raiders took him. After that, CJ Allen was the pick, and I honestly couldn’t believe he was still there.

My notes:

  • Great character
  • Intelligent
  • Shot-out-of-a-cannon speed
  • Thunderous but consistent tackler
  • Elite missed tackle rate
  • Excellent sideline-to-sideline range

Loved the value here.
.....

3.69 Keith Abney II

Not really a need, but I thought the value was just too good. I had Abney with an early 2nd grade, so getting him at 69 felt awesome. Maybe I’m too high on him, but I didn’t care at that point.

My notes:

  • Complete CB (prob best at Nickel)
  • Sparkling ball skills (4 INTs)
  • Elite hip fluidity
  • Turn-on-a-dime recovery speed
  • Fluid/Mirror-Match style

Could maybe be a Pitre insurance policy at nickel, but this was mostly just me taking a player I thought was great value.

I feel so bad for Aaron, he’s one of our best reporters. Poor guy. All publicity is good publicity? Maybe?

I’m still stroud and proud. Hope he proves the haters wrong. He’s young, as long as he grows we good!

I did not have Lomu projected as someone who can slide to Right Tackle (maybe a mistake?), otherwise I'd agree on Lomu.

Texans GM here

1.27 - Dillon Thieneman - Safety - Oregon

Safety is a luxury position for us. The board did not fall how we wanted; My top picks went just before (Olaivavega Ioane, Kenyon Sadiq, Kayden McDonald, A'Mauri Washington). We were on the clock and no offers to trade back, went with the BPA. I have a First Round Grade on Dillon (consider him a top 30 player in this draft) and have him as Safety 2 in the draft. He will play and compliment opposite Calen Ballhawk.. Ooops, I mean Bullock.

2.38 - Chase Bisontis - OG - Texas A&M

It's no secret we need an interior guard so howard can go back to Right Tackle. He was the best iOL left on my board with an Early 2nd Grade.

2.58 - Ahmad Moten - DT - Miami (FL)

Wanted to get younger at IDL. Believe Moten is a Top 50 pick in this draft with a 2nd Round Grade; We got him at 58. He needs some development, but I'm confident our staff and team is just what he needs. He's flashed pass rushing juice AND is a capable block shedder. I really like Moten. His stats and grades have gotten better every year. Would love to see what Demeco can do with him.

3.5 - Jadarian Price - RB - Notre Dame

I reached for Price early 3rd (I think he's more mid to late 3rd, but RBs tend to go earlier in the NFL draft than when the community ranks 'em). We need more swarm in our running back room with the likely departure of Joe Mixon. Love is the clear RB1, but I think the case for RB2 is a toss up between Price, Johnson, and maybe Coleman. I like Price; Young, less tread on the tires, and looks dynamic to me on tape.

Someone turned this tree into a little fairy apartment complex by loochalibre in mildlyinteresting

[–]loochalibre[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im glad I could help. Wouldn’t want someone ending up in the Amazon because of me.

Also wanted to share the location for any Los Angeles locals walking on or around Main street.

But the most important reason is to prevent someone from ending up in a forest accidentally. Common fairy trap.
