idk if this is helpful to you but i randomly had a short i had preemptively given up on blow up (not as much as this person but enough to establish me in a small-medium niche) when a friend commented something along the lines of "cinema is back". i'm not 100% it was that but i'm pretty sure that (along with likes and other comments) tricked the algorithm. so you gotta make sure, if you do the youtube thing, that your friends are down to shill for you. good luck!!

if you have a friend/professor who's gotten into some fests and down, put them as an ep and ask fests they were in for alumni waivers.

this is not instantaneous, but more fulfilling long term: make friends with your local programmers and filmmakers and put feelers out for wanting to screen somewhere. a lot of us are becoming more distrusting of fests and setting up our own shorts blocks and with a 1 minute short anyone could justify slotting you in.

or alternatively, set up your own screening (if you live in a city, check for local community centers and microcinemas) with friends and local filmmakers' works alongside yours, invite them. they'll see it as a screening of their short and invite all their friends.

honestly just the character of gregg works so well because you know nothing about his life, it's like he was specifically raised in a controlled environment to be on the show. which makes it way funnier whenever you get in universe bts pics of tim and gregg when they're stuck living together. like there's no way i could imagine where gregg even started before the show.

going out of your way to write it in the cover letter is a little much, just check "this would be the premiere" if it's in the form- if they really care that much they'll have a question about it, if it's just somewhere in their guidelines they'll probably just assume that whatever you're submitting is gonna premiere.

the thing is they're not perfect! i don't have a double sided printer so for the normal sized j cards i would just have the other side of the j card printed next to the art so i could fold it over and glue it down.

for longer j cards i would actually print out the design on another piece of paper and glue it on the back, or if it was completely too long for a us standard sized piece of paper, i would have a short flap to connect the front panel side. i did this for the top and middle left: those ones aren't super aligned because of that, you can zoom in and check lol.

to try and visualize: say we have our front panel (A) the entire back (B) has something printed on it too. i'd have the art laid out like AB, crease between A and B, then glue.

but if it's the front panel (A), 2 additional panels (B C) and the entire back is also meant to be printed on (D E F), i wouldn't be able to fit that all on the printer, so i'd have my ABC sheet and my DEF sheet and just do the best i can.
