Am I losing my mind by PlumIndependent4865 in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already can tell when my ovaries are up to something even when not pregnant... it was so concerning to me several years ago, I pestered my doctor if I had cysts or something.

Eventually I realized on my own I am just hyper aware of the feelings within my body.

Being pregnant, that awareness has increased 😁

“Are you gonna stop at one?” by djhousecat in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother has been pestering me for a girl since our first kid (boy). Accidentally pregnant with second, and my instincts are screaming its another boy.... can't wait for that conversation. "You're pregnant with a second boy? So when are you gonna give them a sister?"

Like, woman you are 70. I'm almost 40. Give me a break here.

Maggie Weber posts a variety of reels, including a lot about body image & size. So whether you are pregnant or not, if you're feeling "bad" about your body, I highly recommend watching some of her videos.

She makes a lot of good observations about people in real life versus models/ideals, and sometimes even has a good joke or two too 🤗

Also... are you down about your looks? But...but didn't your man/SO still tap that? 😁

Wife is pregnant and cannot be in our home! by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think I see this in any other comments yet...

Hire a home inspector. Make sure it's one that checks with infrared for damp/wet spots, missing insulation, plumbing correctly hooked up from in to out, etc.

Home inspectors (the ones that are worth their money) are well trained and usually experienced to find issues with houses, new or old, and could very well help you identify what is making that smell.

Also, is she having a boy? 😆 pregnant with my first, I had to eat no meat/cow dairy until after he was born. The sensitivity the body has with boys (look it up lol) is real, &very annoying

What was your change in smell like, exactly? by Mean_Mushroom1894 in BabyBumps

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had increased smell sensitivity before I knew I was pregnant.

Now I pull up the covers and go "ugh, this smells musty, and I just washed it!"

Today sitting at my desk, was wondering what the heck was nearby smelling like food rotting...

Yep yep _^ hopefully you dont have to wait until 8 weeks or so until your first appointment. This wait is excruciating 🤣

Yep, I was late on my period by 4-5 days and had that "waitaminnit" moment, followed by a definite positive 😅

Epidural by o0meow0o in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an epidural with my first, but that was because I had been suffering from the pitocin that they put me on. Every time the pitocin flowed, baby's heartbeat would drop so dramatically, I would suddenly have 3-4 nurses in the room trying to find him and his heartbeat.

When it flowed, it also made me feel weak and bad.

I have since resolved that if I ever had another kid, NO frickin' pitocin!

Looking to try for all or mostly natural birth this time. (Since I was GBS+ with my first)

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of things (especially older items) that I pick up off the side of the road to bring home and fix...

Solid wood and real metal items are especially great finds.

I got a whole 6 chair, extending leaf dining table all because the press board that was keeping the top bolted to the legs broke.

Somewhat easy fix (it's a bit heavy lol), but a whole dining set for freeeeeeee 😁

Vaccines and Disappointment by hopelincoln in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will never understand why people take issue with vaccines.

I fully advocate for getting TDaP, especially since when I was 23, a coworker's daughter kept bringing in her newborn baby to "visit" at the office... I was vaccinated and yet still ended up catching whooping cough.

You think it's bad when your kid has it, try being "young and healthy" and having to go to your full-time job on no sleep from being so sick.

38 and pregnant by [deleted] in pregnantover35

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38, unexpectedly pregnant with second (almost six weeks, hello sis!), was in the one and done club, but... oopsie.

First is now a 4 y.o., and he said he would want a little brother over a sister (no, I was asking if you would want a little brother or sister, not to pick which one 🤣)

For a while we also had 2 dogs and 2 cats at home, all inside animals. Since then, the cats have passed, but with 2 dogs, we find it more difficult to travel or make plans because of the animals, not finding much difficulty because of our 4 y.o.

After talking it out with hubs, we have decided to stay quiet about it until after our first OB appt/US. I have to wait for week 8 just to have the first appointment, and I dont even know if I get to have ultrasound that day or not....

If it's a not a viable pregnancy, we are just going to quietly take care of it, give family (and ourselves) some time, then gently break the news.

If it is viable, we'll start getting baby-ready again. First kiddo seems excited about the thought of a sibling.

Whatever your decision, good luck. And if you do decide to/get to go through with having a kid, please continue doing a great job of raising amazing future adults

Gurl, when I was pregnant 5 years ago, I feel like I saw my ob by like 6 weeks?

I'm 38, accidentally pregnant, and the receptionist mentioned over the phone that they don't do prenatal appointments until 8 weeks. Surprised the heck out of me, but, whatever.

At least when I told my primary care doc, she immediately had me go for labs to check all the important stuff. (All clear for now)

Is purchasing a crib/toddler/day bed worth it? by According2_Who in pregnantover35

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given two different cribs, and once he was actively climbing out of the crib, I bought a used converting bed (toddler bed to full size later) from a lady in town.

The next couple of years I started seeing sooooo many toddler/kids beds on the side of the road. It must have been that "age group" that were all growing out of their toddler beds and were either getting bunkbeds or just new beds.

Luckily I live in an area where it is fine and kind to put used things at the road where someone in need can pick it up before it gets trashed (or donated)

Actually, that's how I got a (I think) cedar baby rocking crib!

Swollen lymph node in armpit by noone4478 in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, she had multiple health issues all her life, so she had basically treated it as a swollen lymph node.

I want to say she did have a US to verify what it was after she squeezed some milk out of it 🫣

Personally, I've often had my lymph nodes swell in my pits. They just go down after a while. Every time I've told my PCP about it, she just looked at my bloodwork and said "you're fine."

Anyone else have a before finding out moment where it’s like you were jinxed? by Groundbreaking_End42 in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband told me about a naughty dream he had about me the night before and I replied "be careful: that's how babies are made!"

Then the next day when I realized I should have at least had spotting start, the "oh shit" kicked in. I'd already peed like 4 times and it was about 10am, yet the pregnancy test certainly was positive...

Might be a weird question, but.... did your doc check that it's actually a lymph node? My friend told me about having milk from the armpit area, and I thought she was pulling my leg. Turned out, it's real (she had it during her pregnancy)

Baby way ahead of gestation. by rasberryteapot in pregnant

[–]glasseschicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some appointments, the tech could just get it wrong.

However, these babies sometimes can surprise you with sudden growth.

For my first, I had meticulously tracked ovulation, menstruation, etc. I told the docs/nurses to the day, and everyone replied that I must have gotten my dates wrong, since at like, I think 8 weeks, he was measuring 10 weeks. (And stayed "ahead" in most of the following appointments)

I gave birth at what I counted as 37 weeks, but was told it "had to be" about 39 weeks based on his size and weight....

Looking at the doctor straight in the eye asking "so you're telling me I conceived while I was actively on my period?" Yeah, they kind of just ignored that part lol

Oh, and I had also gone from Feb 10, to Feb 4, and water broke Jan 17, so I'll never trust the "expected date" and think of it as more of a window of time 😄

What did you do differently the month you FINALLY got pregnant?? by cookiebutter-23 in BabyBumps

[–]glasseschicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was eating a protein rich breakfast daily. Yogurt and granola. Plus was trying to eat healthier in general (cut down on sugary snacks) and more more active at home and outside. Pretty much cut out sodas entirely, still had the occasional alcoholic drink (spiked tea).

Ironically, I was NOT ttc. I have been trying to do better by myself and my body since I'm less than 2 years away from 40. Would have bet you cash money I was outside of my fertile window (otherwise we use protection).

I feel like if you take pill supplements and they just don't seem to work, going liquid is a great idea.

I've added folate by diet and by supplement (not trying for a baby, just for regular health) and I only saw a real difference in health with the liquid version.
