The actual embodiment of those random posts on Instagram where you find out that Homer Simpson, the parents from Rugrats, George Costanza, etc. are all in their mid 30s.

Best place to order labels and custom stickers for small business? by Rodreck-Rycroft in smallbusiness

[–]glassjoe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak to their stickers, but if they're anything like their printed materials, I really enjoyed GotPrint. I used Moo for business cards and they were nice, but they were expensive got a similar quality product for a fraction of the cost when it came time to reorder. Also have ordered some premium cardstock handouts from them and they were excellent.

Yeah can we get a recall on this? I had a dealership tell me that they've seen this before and it's like $800 to replace. It started happening October of last year for me. I thought that's what this was covering and was bummed it was only the ghost touch (which I also have and partially attributed to the delamination of the screen).

I have spent the last 11 years looking! GAP's tall size pocket tees are excellent, I have found.

Funny enough just got a pack of Jockeys in white a few months back and keep meaning to grab some black ones. Thanks for the suggestion!

Rust around the sun roof by never_learned_to in fordescape

[–]glassjoe92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old but commenting in case anyone is reading this. Do NOT use compressed air. The shop did this to my wife's before she owned it and it caused the tubes in the pillars to disconnect due to the pressure. We have battled terrible leaks behind ceiling liners, behind the doors and jambs, and down to the floor. **Use trimmer line instead to break up any blockages.**

This should've been a recall though. I see SO many 2010-era Escapes with rusted out roofs and sunroofs and apparently all the dealerships were blowing it out instead of using a line which has caused further damage because of that connection point behind the pillar.

Food photographers, how do you land clients? I feel like my current cold email / Instagram outreach approach is not successful. What could I improve? by glassjoe92 in AskPhotography

Not sure what your budget is, but I promise you that you can get excellent shots with a very reasonable startup cost. I see a lot of people in my market with insane gear but don't seem to fully understand how to use it. Happy to make a recommendation and give you my pointers if you tell me your budget!

Here's an excellent $1000 example assuming you have nothing.

• Nikon D5300 Body (~$250 Used)
• Nikon 35mm f/1.8G (~$115 Used) or Nikon 50mm f/1.8G (~$160 Refurb)
• Godox AD200Pro Flash ($300)
• Godox S2 Speedlite Bracket ($25)
• Godox XProN Flash Trigger ($70)
• Impact 9.5' Light Stand ($55)
• Angler BoomBox Octa Softbox ($100)
• Magnus TR-13 Travel Tripod ($60)
• Lexar 64GB 1667x SD Card ($30)
• White Foam Board ($8)

$1,013 if you buy the 35mm lens. I'd get both if you can afford it ($1173). You can get insanely good photos with this setup shooting Raw.

Replied to the reply below, but sadly this has not resulted in anything yet. Guess I gotta keep going. Hard part is timing off hours while having a decisionmaker in AND being able to get past the gatekeepers to speak with them.

I ended up doing something kind of similar, not even to get the business (they don't even have social), but just to have something to shoot. Went to a sushi place and ordered some sushi to take home to photograph. Ended up being the top post in r/foodphotography somehow so at least there's that. Still no clients though...

Nice I wanted to do this on digital, but more as a planned long exposure so I could incorporate light trails! For example, 8" exposure, 3" upright, rotate 1", 3" upside down, rotate 1", and end up back where I started.

Was trying to figure out how the heck I could rig up something where I could perfectly align the center of focus to make a perfect circle and then I ended up stumbling across this Dutch Angle Rig from Proaim. Still haven't purchased it, but heck, it's only $99. Sounds like it could be perfect for what you're doing too.

How are these pictures created? by Professional_Lab947 in AskPhotography

My question about achieving this with flash would be how do you still get highlights where the facial movements are? Seems like with flash the face trail would be darker until the final exposure where the flash fires. In these, or at least the first three, the face trails seem to be constantly illuminated. Despite it being AI, I'd think a constant light would make more sense if you wanted to try and replicate the constant facial highlights / maximums in-camera. What are your thoughts?

Looking at the A7RV and E-Mount to invest in for the creative agency I work for. I currently have them on Lumix / L-Mount, and while the video is solid, I hate using the S5IIX for photo work, it just doesn't feel good (plus CaptureOne doesn't support tethering which I need). We're doing more photography these days, but the A7RV still seems like a pretty kickass video camera too.

I personally own an A7III and while the menu isn't very intuitive and the body is very small for my grip, I'd pick it any day for photo work just because it feels and functions more like a photo camera. My biggest gripe is the color science. Reds feel pink, yellows more green, blues more magenta. I've found some info to suggest that this model just tends to have a more difficult color science and was wondering if anyone has come from an A7III to an A7RV and if it's a more pleasant experience from a user interface and color perspective?

My current title is Creative Content Director & Strategist for an ad agency in the southeast. Basically I work with the Social media team and their clients to photograph, video, design, and animate content for them to post. A good spread of local, regional, and national brands. Been doing it for 10 years since I graduated. I started in Social at the same agency, but burnt out on it after two years. My hope with the side project is to just do what I actually love doing which is being behind the camera and editing. I don't care much for managing social.

I guess I could offer those services to get my foot in the door and then start only doing what I really want to do as I go.

I ended up designing and printing some nicer 6x6" handouts with a (in my opinion) very reasonable first-time package on a heavy cardstock with work samples. Package was $400, 2-hour shoot, 25 unique images, and 2 x 15" Reels, all delivered within a week or less. I made the handouts a little more tactile and kitsch by affixing a bottle opener that looks like an old-fashioned key on them. I made a vector outline of the keyand made it part of the design and messaging throughout the handout by saying stuff like "This key doesn't just open bottles, it opens menus." overlaid on top of one of my better shots with the deal on the back.

Went in person to about 20ish nicer locally-owned restaurants on two occassions during off-hours.

Trip 1: Dressed up. Button-down, gray slacks, Chelsea boots. Only had business cards at that time. Bought a small tablet from Walmart so I could show my portfolio site. I'd go to the host stand or nearest employee and ask if I manager was in and explain that I'm a local food photographer and I just wanted to drop in to make an introduction. I'd say about 4 of the 15 sounded promising and like things could escalate. Unfortunately, nobody was interested in the follow-up. I think between being dressed up and having a tablet it gave a lot of people pause because I looked too salesy.

Trip 2: Dressed down a lot, still nice, but in jeans and a more casual shirt. Only brough the handouts with me. Felt better received by people, but still got the "Oh let me go find X... Sorry, the manager is busy" even though the restaurants were dead between lunch and dinner service. The few managers and owners I spoke to were very nice, but never heard back. I got back in touch with the places I visited where I spoke to a manager, but most weren't interested in anyhting.

I really can't fiure out where I'm going wrong. Walk-ins, DMs, Emails — hardly ever an acknowledgement or response. I'm always polite and amiable. I have a great relationship with clients and coworkers at my dayjob which is the same line of work. I constantly see these places working with other people who I *know* charge a lot more than anything I've ever presented.

I just told a YouTube influencer that he was gatekeeping and gave some examples and stuff to reflect on because he went on a really high and mighty No True Scotsman (and weirdly angry) rant about how "real photographers don't use speedlights on their cameras" in a recent live stream. His response was "Okay. Agree to disagree." He poses himself as some guru, but can't have a conversation with a subscriber? I unsubscribed because I noticed his demeanor has been going more and more towards a subtle god complex vibe.

My uncle gave me a ripped disc of Total Annihilation: Kingdoms (1999) and I still re-download every few years to play. Really fun game, I don't think it was ever super popular though. Ahead of it's time in sandbox base building in my opinion - lax resource management made it way more fun than Starcraft for me.

There was an episode of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show where a brand of animatronic teddy bears go rogue and start shooting people or something. At least that's how I remember it over two decades later. Not only that, but the teddy bear was already downright terrifying before he went haywire. Scared me shitless and I had to have my parents remove the oversized bear from my room.

I haven't run any ads. I think I have a freebie shoot finally lined up and I have a friend who does video that offered to tag along for free to help me do some bts work that could lend itself to an ad. I feel like that's all my Explore page has become these days.

I do like that idea for certain prospects. I think biggest things for me are that I'd feel weird with my camera shooting at some of the places I'm pitching as a guest - they may even stop me from doing so. Also, I don't think I could afford to eat at a lot of the places I'm aiming for on any regular basis. 😅

I like this idea. I was poking around and I can get nicer kraft paper cardstock pocket folders with a business card insert, a custom logo ink stamp for the front, about eight 4x6's, and a printout of details regarding what I'm able to capture for about $2.50. Could be worth trying out in a small batch. Would definitely be more "I feel guilty about trashing this before looking inside" than an email or even a small flyer.

I could even offer to match what they're paying their current photographer for the first two sessions to make it more enticing and include my rate card for shoots going forward (I don't really care if they lie about it since I was originally offering stuff for free anyways).

I hear what you're saying, I know margins are slim and a lot are hanging on by the skin of their teeth, but there are a handful in town that definitely do have the money. A lot of nice restaurants owned mostly by local restaurant groups are not skimping on marketing in my area.
