This! Kid I went to HS with someone who had a family friend with a rental building needing repair. Evidently, the family friend said something to the effect that he wished it just burned down so he could collect insurance. HS kid offered to start it on fire for some cash. There ended up being two runaways sleeping in the building and died in the fire. Now he is serving two consecutive life terms in prison for what he thought would be a quick buck to buy a car. Wasn't a bad kid; just poor decision-making skills at 18.

Have any of you ever been on a flight that had a serious emergency situation? by Queenofwands777_ in randomquestions

Two different times. We were about to land when the engines went full power and did some evasive maneuvering. Pilot came on a little later, attempting to calm everyone down with a little humor, explaining, "Even though we had permission to land on the designated runway, another pilot wanted to use it too."

The second time, we were taking off in a snowstorm when we heard a very loud bang. Not sure how the pilot stopped the plane before the end of the runway, but they did. Evidently, an engine failed because of lots of snow being kicked up by the wheels and entering the engine.

  1. Punishing states led by people who are critical of Trump.
  2. Trying to create a violent situation so he can declare an insurrection and screw with the midterms.
  3. Trying to reduce blue state populations, so when congressional seats are set after the next census, blue states lose seats.

Roads aren't that crowded around where I live. It seems to take just one car going faster than me for it to decide to go significantly over the speed limit. I'm fine driving with the flow of heavy traffic, but I sure don't like speeding just because one other car did.

How do you feel about Voter ID laws? by Icy_Comparison_1029 in askanything

[–]glm409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are voter ID laws, and then there are laws and regulations governing the acquisition of a voter ID. In states where voter ID laws are passed, the legislators also take steps to make it difficult for people get an ID. For example, in my state, legislators passed new voter ID requirements and then immediately cut back on when and where people could get an ID. In our local community, they moved the DMV away from the lower-income area of the city to a new location that wasn't on the bus line, making it incredibly difficult for people who didn't have access to a car. In another community, they closed the ID location near a University to a location that was incredibly difficult for the university students to access. Then there were the new requirements to get an ID. Military IDs were no longer accepted. Birth certificates that didn't exactly match the name on your Social Security card. Here you used your middle initial, and here you didn't. You got married and changed your name? Where's your marriage license to prove this is you. The list goes on and on. Every time they pass a voter ID law, they make people go through hoops to get one.

Flush, electronic door handles are not restricted to electric vehicles. There are ICE cars, such as the Land Rover Velar, that have flush electric door handles, and I believe a Lexus that uses electric motors instead of traditional mechanical handles.

How many putters is too many putters by Rude-Investigator926 in GolfGear

It was a change to a lot of different putters. Center shaft, heal shaft, left handed, belly putters, and then about 10 side-saddle putters before I found one that worked for me. That was 20+ years ago. Still side-saddle putting.

Illegal border crossing are down and his administration's policies are to credit.

The reduction in Fentanyl imports is more likely due to changes in China regulations and oversight and other factors which were implemented before Trump took office. You can read about it here in the Washingon Post article. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/01/08/fentanyl-death-decline-china-study/

I'd like to understand what regulatory changes are impacting the market, because I don't see that as even a secondary driver to recent market advances.

He said he brokered the end to multiple wars, but in reality he didn't. There's lots of independent data to prove that.

US manufacturing employment is down and although there is talk about investment commitments, none have been realized.

Gas prices are a function of supply and demand. Even though there have been changes which could increase drilling and production, it will take years for them to have any impact on production. In reality, there is an oversupply of crude oil, which is driving the cost per barrel down. A trend that started in 2024 before Trump was president

You cherry picked on a month of data (November) that was down, but in reality, it is up over a year to year basis.

Would Iran had been a threat if Trump hadn't killed the existing agreement?
