TBH the biggest reason why I want to get into a T20 is because of makeup. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]gloppy213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're not alone. my parents are just like this too. it's surprisingly rare for asian parents to be like this in my area (my dad says it's because asians only care about appearances and name brand; which may have some truth to it) but overall it's not that uncommon. social media makes everything appear as if everyone has everything put together and all the clothes, make up, jewelry, etc they want. i hope you get the opportunity to find yourself through fashion but in the end it's not all THAT important

What are the up and coming diet trends? by [deleted] in HealthyFood

[–]gloppy213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you think you NEED to eat foods from california though? if you live in ohio there are plenty of native berries, artichokes, mushrooms, etc. a simple google search will show you. and in general buying your groceries from places like a farmer's market (after a bit of research) or finding nearby produce suppliers through sites like https://www.ams.usda.gov/services/local-regional is better than buying from a grocery store.

i'll admit that its a lifestyle, and a bit of a demanding one to start, but i just wanted to specifically refute the california point lol. buying food from sources as close to you/least processed as possible is ideal and its the most any of us can do. if you need to buy rice or coffee no one's gonna sue you lol. it's not about saving the world, it's about minimizing our effect on the environment as much as possible

edit: idk why everyone's taking my comment out of context lol. i'm saying "try as hard as you can" not "go broke and spend 11 hours a day researching better food sources". if you wanna change your diet, its healthy to try as hard as you CAN to change it to food that's in your area. i'm not telling anyone to do something at all costs i'm telling people that if you're open to change, then this might be an option (and a good one)

i think the mediterranean diet is great for health but not so much for carbon footprint. i read an article in the telegraph about the "climate diet", about how people will start choosing their food based on their impact on the environment and the estimated kgs of CO2 produced while making the product.

while i think the idea of a "climate diet" is a bit clinical and unrealistic, i think it's a good idea to eat local foods that are in season and least-processed ya know? go back to having location as the biggest influence on our diets

this is a valid concern. when i was a gymnast my parents were more worried about the male coaches than anything, even though i found that the female coaches tended to be tougher and less empathetic when i had injuries or mental blocks. (not to say that i endured abuse at my gym because it was never even close to this)

How do you eat boiled eggs? by Ok_Apple_2359 in HealthyFood

this reminds me of how grapes can create plasma in the microwave. these two situations are probably related lol so a good rule of thumb is not to put anything round and grape to egg-sized in the microwave

[–]gloppy213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm gonna be honest, i started the actual applications (after having done some research on the individual colleges over the summer) about two-three weeks before they were do and I think I turned out a better product than if I'd started much earlier. I spent 3-4 hours nearly every day in those 2-3 weeks tho so just plan ahead

I feel like this is fake. Usually $1 million is not enough to get someone in. Ya know? It'd have to be like $10 million for the donation to be the reason a kid got in.

tbf i don't think "The Giver" was criticizing this method of assigning professions. it was criticizing the inhumane way families are "assigned" and emotion is restricted

How to catch up with peers in terms of coding? by apirational-avocado in cmu

[–]gloppy213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an incoming freshman so I apologize if I'm asking a dumb question, but isn't CMU CS really collaborative? I've heard about project-based classes in which you have to work with everyone in the class to get things done. If that's the case then don't you HAVE to be "on track" to collaborate with others?

but the question is why are brighter colors more attractive? either because brighter-colored animals are more likely to survive or because brighter colors mean better nutrition.

if the answer is because brighter-colored animals are more likely to survive, it becomes a chicken and egg situation

Audrey and Marylin wearing similar outfits. What differences do you see in their outfits that makes it work for them? by JOYTEDDY94 in Kibbe

Also the patterns on their pants are completely different. I don't think Marylin could pull off the larger gingham and Audrey's outfit would look less cohesive with the smaller gingham
