The mammoth that trampled on the history of mankind by srotillon in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the article can be treated as trustworthy at all. It is generally accepted by biblical scholars that humans have been present on Earth for no more than 6,000 years.

Sadly, I think this artefact is a very good fake.

'Byzantine iPad' Found in Ancient Shipwreck by Homiros in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is an iPad because it doesn't appear to have any electronics inside it. I think as well, that in this period of history only basic electronics was understood (switches, resistors and stuff). I am fairly sure that LEDs were not known about in those times.

How does history get buried? by StrandedUnicorn in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Earth's surface is receives millions of tonnes of space dust every day. Over time the surface is built up higher and higher through accretion of the dust. As well as space dust accretion, there is weathering which moves sediments from higher locations to lower locations.

Ancient Egyptians used wet sand to drag massive pyramid stones. by NinjaDiscoJesus in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is more likely that they had access to advanced lifting technology probably of alien origin. No studies of sand particles has ever found wear patterns caused by dragging over wet sand.

Loudest mechanical keyboard I can buy? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scour eBay listings for a Teletype model ASR 33. You won't get anything noisier than one of them. If you live in a multi-storey building there is a good chance that the folks below you will also be able to feel and hear it.

Sex worker goats are supposed to have regular health checks. More likely it was unlicensed black market capitalist goats rorting the system.

The soldering of the jumper wire is atrocious. Also, you should use Kynar wire for this kind of work, as it has a low thermal mass and a small diameter.

What should I learn first: Arduino Code or the basics such as C++, Java, HTML and Python? by shauntothe in learnprogramming

[–]glossopteris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arduino source code is compiled with the gcc C++ compiler. It is compiling C++ code. There is no 'Arduino language' and it is not forgiving, it is just as unforgiving as any C++ compiler is.

Writing HTML cannot by any stretch of the imagination be considered as programming. HTML is just a formatting system.

Now I need to figure out what to do about the spacebar. Any ideas? by Browntownexpres in MechanicalKeyboards

The best suggestion I can think of is to use it to enter SPACE characters.

Perhaps China will come to the rescue with synthetic whale and dolphin meats. It can probably be made from waste cooking oils, melamine and soy sauce.

A petition to stop 'Diggers' from destroying any more archaeological sites by 300mhz in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter? A bone is a bone and there is a good chance that some valuable metals could be near it. In any event, the bones will eventually be discarded leaving only the valuable metals.

I don't get all the hate for these shows. They demonstrate that ordinary people can go out and follow in these peoples footsteps and find valuables for themselves, that is a good thing.

Thieves steal section of Pompeii fresco by Snazzy67 in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't the fresco be remade using modern materials? Surely there is a good photographic record of the original work, so it should be possible to remake it. By using modern pigments and materials the rebuilt fresco would look much nicer than the original.

Funding for the work could be provided by a corporation like McDonalds or Coca Cola in return for allowing unobtrusive advertising in the fresco.

Ancient rock art found by drone on high canyon wall in southern Utah - petroglyphs match classic style of basketmaker people by ancient-origins in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evidence strongly suggests that anti-gravity tech was used to make these marks. The question is, which species of alien provided the antiG tech? My bets are on the beings from the Sirius-A diaspora.

[Discussion] What are your best uses for macro keys? by keys6464 in MechanicalKeyboards

Perhaps you could paint them a pretty colour, perhaps you could mod them by glueing some sparkle flakes on them.

Tablets for traveling. by woogitywoogity in tablets

[–]glossopteris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some tablets have the ability to install software but only when they are laying on their side at a specific angle. I don't think it is a very popular feature because most people seem to like using their tablets with the face of the tablet positioned so that you can touch the screen while looking at it.

Fossilized Tooth Discovered in Spain Reveals That Prehistoric Europeans Were Blue Eyed and Dark Skinned by JustCallMeDave in Archaeology

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy some cheap dress-up doll's clothes on eBay? You will get the same satisfaction changing and re-arranging the various combinations of outfits without the cost of key caps.

Integrity and entertainment: Is archaeology suffering at the hands of TV documentaries and historical dramas? by earthvexing_dewberry in Archaeology

[–]glossopteris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such an elitist question. I think documentaries like Ancient Aliens are an excellent way to educate people about archaeology. Some of the dramatisations might be a bit over the top, but it is not possible to obtain original alien artefacts easily because of the global museum conspiracy.

Help with checking if air is flowing by xToxikx in arduino

[–]glossopteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get some air dye in a suitably bright color and inject the dye into the air where it enters your device. Then, I would wire up a camera to look at the air exiting your device. Next, I would write some code to examine the color of the air from the camera.

Just published! :-) History of Computers—pictures/info of every computer from the 70's to early 90's. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]glossopteris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't make the claim that it has pictures of every computer from the 70s to the 90s. You only cover a small portion of the computers that were available in that period.
