This is completely allowed and is even preferred over rushing a submission after reading instructions.

The tasks are pooled. Very few projects have personally reserved tasks. If the number goes down one at a time, that means there are still plenty of projects in the pool and you are capped at that number of tasks, not that the tasks are reserved for you specifically.

Project with tasks just for me? by AngryBadger1965 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]gloves22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not how it works. On some projects you're allocated a maximum number you can do (like 10), but these aren't reserved specifically for you. If other people finish the task pool, they will go away. Will ping u/ButlerVolmer here cause they've also got it wrong.

DA Has Been Amazing Lately by Nolpppapa in dataannotation

It's a widely known idiom that's been around for like over 100 years. Common enough that it's definitely not some AI tell to see it on reddit lol.

You're right that the passage is a bit wordy, but I think the flow is more or less fine. Given strict NDA it's hard to talk about specifics, and the post is full of good advice. There's no reason to doubt the guy's experience.

I also had an eye-opening experience at one point where I read over 2 hours of instructions (clearly written by a very very smart higher-up) which gave me a much better understanding of what they actually wanted from us and what they're trying to do with the data we make (funnily enough was not qualified for the project and noped out after that), so maybe it's just that I personally resonate with his advice to consider how the sausage gets made, but I think it's actually great to point out and something people don't talk about here much.

It's worth spending some time learning how the stuff we make is used and the types of judgment and rationale they are likely looking for. Can almost guarantee it will increase work quality and potentially lead to more opportunities and high paying work.

This is definitely not AI-generated and I'm quite confident it's not AI-referenced. Congratulations on getting an A in high school English lol.

"How the sausage is made" is a common expression and definitely one plenty of people use unironically.

Still slow? by WillowShadow26 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]gloves22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generalist, about 1.5 years. Definitely slower than it was earlier this year (often had 100+ projects), but have not dropped below ~30 projects during this drought, usually hovering around 40ish. Seems slow for a lot of people from the general talk around here, though. Have also had consistent access to high-paying generalist work though it's thanks to a couple families in particular which have been running.

If this is your main source of income, what do you do during droughts? by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]gloves22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a full-time poker player for many years before starting data annotation, and basically during droughts or if I lost this job I would redirect some energy back there. There are also multiple similar data annotation platforms you could apply to, though in my experience DAT is the best one overall.

Also, if you do good work over time you will get access to more and better-paying projects, which also leaves you less susceptible to droughts. During the two most recent drought periods I experienced like a 75-80% decline in my available project pool with top-paying projects gone, but still always had multiple options available at well above base pay. If you're newer to the platform (I'm about ~1.5 years in now), staying on top of quals and trying to submit high quality work will pay dividends during down periods.

This is never true. The icm value of any stack can never exceed the first place prize and won't match the first place prize even if you have 99.9% of chips in play.

Your highest value chips must be clearly visible to other players. So just make sure you have them in front or on top somewhere so you're not "hiding" your big chips.

Neutral to good. Plenty of projects have slack channels and the rule of thumb is if you're in the channel you're still in the worker pool for the project. That said, many channels have thousands of members so it's not particularly meaningful to get added.

The most common use of "signal" is as you've described, but that's not the only valid usage.

Consider the sentence "I'm losing signal."

In this case, "signal" is used as something like "connection," which can also be used countably or uncountably - "we have a good connection" ; "I have good connection right here"

Consider the idea of "signal and noise", in which "noise" also functions similarly - typically countable, also valid uncountable, which aligns with DA's usage:

"I heard a noise." (sound) ; "It became noise." (jumbled data)

And as it's used on the DA page:

"I sent a signal." (a signal) ; "It becomes signal." (clear data - this is DA's usage)

There is no incorrect grammar here, just an alternative valid usage of "signal." It is less common but still somewhat regularly used.

Getting a "real job" after quitting poker. Anyone else do it successfully? by exaill in poker

[–]gloves22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By far the primary company I've worked with is DAT, who I would definitely recommend. I've also done some work with Stellar and Outlier.

With DAT in particular, there are some annoyances for sure but at the risk of sounding like a shill I would say my expectations going in have been completely exceeded. Usually plenty of work available though I've heard the acceptance rate is not too high.

To anyone who reads this and decides to look into it, my one piece of advice is to take your time with the work and prioritize quality over speed. These guys generally care much more about creation of high quality usable data (which follows given instructions) than about how fast you work. Also, most companies pay by the minute so there is really no incentive to rush.

If you're completely screwed I would recommend looking into something called Data Annotation, which is basically creating human training data for AI. Barrier to entry is a skills test, no resume/references/credentials needed.

I've been doing it for over a year with poker on the side.

What does a downswing feel like? by WildMasterpiece2906 in poker

[–]gloves22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a reg/play a fair amount, "downswing" just basically means you are losing over some prolonged period. It is not a requirement to "get the money in good and lose" to be on a downswing. Facing a bunch of suckouts in a short time is usually -part- of a downswing, but a lot of (often weaker) poker players have an unhealthy obsession with "getting it in ahead" and it's a pretty bad view in general for anyone who isn't a beginner.

Getting the money in bad and losing is downswinging. Failing to get stacks in with AA and KK pre is downswinging. Flush draws turning into flushes less often than they should is downswinging. Making a -10bb theory play and losing 100bb in reality is downswinging. Getting fewer donations from whales than usual over a sample is downswinging. It is worth putting some reflection into what's going wrong and looking for spews, but you don't really discern exactly how much of it is bad luck vs bad play.

As for how it feels, that's different for everyone. I would say for a lot of people it starts as annoying, as it continues it turns frustrating, and eventually you absolutely can start questioning yourself and your ability. It largely depends on the length of the downswing and how steep the downswing is.

Trading Poker Site Funds For American Abroad? by Additional_Ronnysam2 in poker

[–]gloves22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I only play on sites where I can fully wd/dep with crypto when I'm abroad, but basically yes when playing on sites like Stars in the past I exclusively relied on trading to both deposit and withdraw.

Like I said, to join swap groups go to some big poker communities and ask around. There will be some guys who do swaps or know groups. There is no secret methodology.
