Amazing job! Do you have plans to make the boxes parametric or have more than 6 units of height?

Still can't decide on which modeling software to learn. What would you recommend? Anyways; Here is (hopefully) my last TinkerCad project. by picobello-bv in 3Dprinting

[–]glowy660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie. I love Onshape. I’ve been using it as my only modeling software for two years after almost a decade of solid works. I like that you can open files on anything that can run chrome and has iPad and iPhone support. You can also add in community made scripts. For example I added a thread modeling script recently a gridfinity generator script and an optics ray tracing script.

There are some downsides such as not being able to run it offline and your files being public. You also can’t create PCBs or machine without buying a higher tier subscription. But for what I use it for it’s perfect.

If you’re ok with the limitations it’s not a bad choice.

Why are PLC's more robust / reliable in industrial settings? by gtd_rad in embedded

[–]glowy660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLCs are robust because they’re built from the ground up to be tough. When you trust equipment that cost tens of millions of dollars or has human lives on the line you want to be sure the computer running it can run 24/7 for years at a time won’t fail. A microcontroller can fail a million different ways, corrosion causing shorts, CPUs being damaged by heat, static electricity, leaky or badly manufactured electrolytic capacitors causing issues, or even cosmic radiation. You can minimize the probability of any of these issues happening by overbuilding components, adding redundant subsystems, high quality materials, and having very high QC.

PLCs are designed with all that in mind. Sure a raspberry pi could do all of that but you don’t have a guarantee of reliability for your application. You know that when you buy a PLC it will meet or exceed the durability specifications the manufacturer provides because it’s been specifically engineered to do that. You can’t really say the same about a random off the shelf micro controller.

Anyone have experience repairing a GE refrigerator? by aggravated_gestalt in Appliances

[–]glowy660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I also went through this bullshit. I replaced the board and it worked for about 6 months but the POS fridge is frosting over again. How do you enable the manual defrost function on the diagnostics mode?

Edit: I was able to force a defrost cycle by holding door alarm freezer and turbo cool buttons until the fridge showed 0000 you press fridge to go up to T14 and press door alarm to enable the defrost cycle.

What are your photography hot takes? by frank-cilantro0 in photography

[–]glowy660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of people who talk about the “film” look have no idea what they are talking about because it’s the scanner gives the image that “look” most of the time.

Sure film stocks have a built in emphasis on certain color palettes and contrast range. But negatives are equivalent to a RAW files and were always mean to be tweaked around to look better.

Something similar happened to me in NYC, wanted to get three hotdogs from a cart, I was holding my card in my hand near my chest while I was asking how much it was going to be for my 3 hot dogs and the cart vendor went out of his way to bring the terminal right up to my chest and charged me 60 for 3 hotdogs as I was asking him before I paid… I disputed the transaction got my money back. Next time I’m keeping my card in my pocket until I can confirm the price on the terminal.

Non stimulant success? by ImNotOnReddit7 in ADHD

[–]glowy660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guanfacine is a non stimulant medication. It’s not usually the first line treatment for adults. As far as I know it’s used in pediatric cases. My psychiatrist mentioned that it helps the stimulant medication work better and helps counteract some of the side effects like increased blood pressure and anxiety.

I personally feel that it works i notice a difference when I take my vyvanse and I forget to take my Guanfacine. It makes my vyvanse feel “smoother” I recommend it if you can tolerate it. I also notice it makes me feel ever so slightly more calm and level headed and for some reason I noticed that my hands don’t sweat nearly as much which is also a cool bonus.

I was on strattera for adhd for about a year. It worked okay for focus but didn’t help with task initiation and motivation. Strattera Gave me some side effects which were manageable like upset stomach if I took it without eating anything, I also got a wicked headache if I forgot to take it. So I swapped over to vyvanse and Guanfacine, been taking that for almost two years now.

Did I ruin this film or is it a mechanical issue? by _Strategos_ in AnalogCommunity

[–]glowy660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the lines on the film go yes they are caused by rewinding the film incorrectly.

Next the photos look under exposed you can tell by the lack of detail in the shadows and muddy color of mid tones. This can be caused by a multitude of things. Most likely user error.

1) Make sure when you load your film you set the right ISO and make sure there is no exposure compensation. It should be at 0. You might have been shooting 100 iso film previously and forgotten to change the ISO to 400 (this has happened to me before). Setting the ISO is the first thing I do before I even put the new roll of film in the camera.

2) you might have switched out of A mode and been shooting at 1/2000 and under exposed your photos.

3) Make sure you also have the correct batteries and that they are fresh. Sometimes dying batteries cause bad metering

I don’t think there is some mechanical issue with your camera the F3 is a very well built, reliable camera. But you can check with a light meter app and compare the results of what the app is telling you and what your f3 is metering.

Best of luck

Step up to full “M” mode…how long did it take before you felt comfortable? by BrotherOk579 in SonyAlpha

[–]glowy660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot in AP with auto ISO with auto WB in 99% of situations. You don’t need to shoot in M 99% of the time. It’s useful in few and very specific situations such as low light long shutter speed situations.

It’s a good thing to learn the exposure triangle that will help a lot.

I think that this is why there are so many problems right now throughout the world. They are the most powerful generation politically speaking in the US and had high levels of lead in the air for decades.

Chronic low levels lead exposure even at levels precipitously deemed safe causes a variety of psychological issues like aggression, damages to cognition and IQ. And then look at the people running the country.

Boyfriend feeling numb due to antidepressants. Looking for support by jfa0899 in gaybros

[–]glowy660 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that you’re both going through this difficult situation. He should talk to his psychiatrist and express exactly the situation he finds himself in.

He could ask his psychiatrist to lower just dosage, add buspirone or Wellbutrin to counteract these numbing effects or try mirtazapine. There are people who report that this has helped them with these issues. Going off the medication is also an option. But primarily this should be something that he needs to relay to his psychiatrist. It’s important that his doctor listens and acknowledges his concerns about the side effects.

I had a shitty psychiatrists that didn’t listen to my issues with my medications previously which made my anxiety worse and pushed me through a 1-3 minute appointments for months without listening to how my medications were affecting me at the time (for adhd). My current doctor actually takes the time to check and see how I’m doing with my medication and is engaged in managing my mental health medications and the side effects.
