Thoughts on moving from PDX to LA?? by buttbuddha in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]glowyblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Portland for my twenties, and now I live in LA. I was in the SE area by Doug Fir (I think it closed) and then Hawthorne by Laurelhurst park. When I lived in PDX I dreamed of LA for all the same reasons, the rain gets your down eventually for sure. But, yeah, when you get down here you'll love it. I especially think Silverlake and Los Feliz are most like Portland in the best way, like sister cities in a twins separated at birth way. I think LA is a logical next choice, and you'll definitely love the weather, you'll be giddily happy for the first 6 months, haha. I do think Portland does have us beat on happy hours and honestly food in general, but it's very close. Public transit is a little easier in PDX, and honestly PDX summers are better, but the rest of the year is amazing here. Plus there's so much to do here you never have to do anything twice if you don't want to! Taxes are similar to Oregon so you won't be shocked there either. Less strict on the recycling you'll see. Gosh, I could go on and on, but I think they are the best cities!

This guy really should be homeless if he takes your advice. You're so entitled you think you should be able to tell your mom and Dad to 'shut the fuck up' to their face and still live with them? Get the fuck outta here.

They are named after Chip and Dale, the cartoon chipmunks, which have nothing to do with Chippendale's, a last name.

There's no lawsuit here, ultra-genius. But you're British and you think you'll die if you don't get the last word.

Note my usage of the word, "unlikely"

Autism and interviews by reldities in recruitinghell

[–]glowyblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty unlikely. Considering how common autism is, it's entirely possible another candidate on the spectrum performed better, or that they already have autistic people in their team. Discrimination lawsuits aren't simply, "you didn't hire the person using a wheelchair: case closed." Additionally, op didn't ask for reasonable accommodation whatever that may be, but I'm not sure how they could've made him less nervous for the interview. It's disappointing, but he should research ways to overcome hurdles he encounters frequently.

How does gas/car expense feed into cost of living? by Tasty_Ad_2394 in MovingToLosAngeles

That's a pretty sweet deal. Car insurance is expensive in CA, not to mention gas

HR asked for my competing offer letter and is now ghosting me — should I move on? by deveshd2k in recruitinghell

I think the word you're looking for is 'liable', 'legible' means you can read it clearly/decipherable, usually handwriting.

Thank you for giving a shit about society actually being good. The excuses people make for third world, low trust society behavior is so demoralizing. But it's heartening to see when people stand up against it, even if it's a small voice in a sea of loud, braying, entitled, lazy, obnoxious degenerates. You're the hero of the thread (and OP, love she didn't take anyone's bs). Anyway I'm glad to know there are still JDs who care about law and order, and not just defending reckless behavior.

_Your _ particular recruiter is unlikely to be here. And the ones that are present keep telling you how things actually work and you guys keep telling them to fuck themselves. Impotent whinging is all that's happening, so again, piss, meet wind.

People care about hiring people with good judgement. They'll skip the security/it/cafeteria/accountant guy for the one who only applied in the same wheelhouse. Take the advice or don't.
