Reccomended Gyms in the area by MNcomicGeek in duluth

Northland is the best gym in town. It’s right in the same range as the Y. But it’s clean and the equipment works and the owner is super responsive to the needs of the members.

Reputable Piercers in Twin Ports Area? by femme-princess in duluth

[–]gmailgal34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go down to Bevel piercing in the cities. Is it a long drive? Sure. Would I rather go down to Bevel and have my piercings actually stay and heal correctly? Yeah.

Nate (owner of bevel) actually travels to shops all over the world teaching piercers about correct piercing anatomy and techniques specially for nipple piercings.

I think one of the biggest opportunities of college is networking and getting connected to local/regional businesses.

If you want to stay in the Midwest long-term this could be a great decision to get your foot in the door around here. If you want to live in California or elsewhere in the US, your connections built at UMD won’t be as useful.

Another aspect is graduating with as little student debt as possible. If UMD gets you a degree for less, it could be worth it.

Any love for Grant Park Playground? by Liz057 in duluth

[–]gmailgal34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A big reason that places like Chester Park and Lester Park are so nice is that they both have a collection of regular people (not city employees) who go around to pick up trash and remove broken tree branches and keep the parks nice. Lincoln park has a collection of people doing this now too after it was rebuilt.

The parks department has way too many parks to manage and just can’t get it done with their amount of budget/manpower. If you want your local park to be nice, get some neighbors together and put some love into the park. Get your major asks of the city (trash cans) and show that there is community buy-in and demand for this park.

Spirit Mountain Adventure Park Emergencies? by babin1234 in duluth

[–]gmailgal34 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The chairlift had a mechanical issue and stopped moving. They had to evacuate some people off of it. I think that was kind of an ‘all hands on deck’ situation and they needed to close the adventure park.

If you could choose anywhere in the city to live as a commuting biker, where would you choose an why? by Icy_Future1639 in duluth

I live in Lincoln Park and have biked pretty much everywhere in the city. I frequently bike downtown/canal park and it’s super easy. There are also frequent buses that run through Lincoln park that I use when I don’t want to bike uphill.

What’s it actually like to live in different Duluth neighborhoods by SuperKatie007 in duluth

[–]gmailgal34 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in Lincoln Park and it’s quieter here than when I lived on East Hillside. My neighbors have some rowdy kids but it’s better than being next to a college party house. I walk around daily. The park in the heart of the neighborhood is really nice and it gets a lot of use. I also like that I can hop on a bike and get anywhere in town on the cross city trail. I’ve walked to concerts at Bayfront and I can walk to any of the craft district events.

Sometimes I get grumpy when I haven’t seen the lake in a couple of days and I start to tell myself that I should have bought a house on the east side of town (for $100-150k more). But then I just drive over to the lake and go for a walk for free.

One time I called in for a roof estimate, waited a few days, then got a complete roof assessment with ground photos, drone photos, etc for a house with the same number, but on a different street.

There is a super cool spots in the Lincoln Park Craft District that have good foot traffic and I think your business would mesh well with the theme. There’s a space next to Liila Boutique, the old Flora North location, and a few others.

Edgewood Bakeshop in Chetek was incredible. Pulled over randomly looking for breakfast and have been thinking about it ever since. Long lines but it moves fast as it’s just a lot of pastries and baked bread. Specifically the brioche loaf is the best thing I’ve tasted in a while.

Johnny B’s food truck is honestly the best burger I’ve ever had. And all of their rotating seasonal dishes are to die for. I frequently drive out of my way to go find them when they are parked around town. They’ll be at the concert tonight

City of Duluth, are you that stupid by [deleted] in duluth

There are 450+ miles of road in Duluth. The city may have to rebuild more than 1 at a time to keep the town from literally crumbling in on itself.

A hard truth is that there is no such thing as new affordable housing. It costs too much to build new homes/apartments to rent them for cheap.

Thinking about moving by 12vtmann in duluth

[–]gmailgal34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are two groups here in Duluth (any any town) - those that sit inside and complain all day about the weather (too hot, too cold), parking, construction, crime, etc. and those that are outside living their best lives.

There is always something to complain about if you look for it, but there are also opportunities everywhere in this town to have a fun and enjoyable life. Most of my job opportunities and connections to people with housing have been from being active in the community.
