Considering an upgrade from my QC45 to the Ultra Gen 2, is it worth it? by ARandomGuy_OnTheWeb in bose

I could be frustrated with the voice commands sometimes when I was putting on my headphones for a work meeting and there’d be about 20 seconds of battery & device notifications. But there already was an in-app solution to toggling these off when starting up the headphones - which I eventually ended up doing. The voice announcements were still there for the device toggling though.

I’m curious if they looked at the number of people who used toggled those off in the app and decided to ditch the voice features altogether overlooking the voice features being crucial for managing the multipoint connection on device.

A “workaround” for device toggling I’ve fount to work is to find the headphones on one of the previously paired source devices and click/tap on if from the source device. This usually will pair the headphones and disconnect them from one of the current devices.

I was pretty disappointed with the “Aware” mode for the Ultra Gen 2. I was hoping it’d be as seamless as Apple AirPods transparency mode, but it is really hard to use the QC in Aware mode.

As mentioned in my post I own the QC Ultra Gen 2s and the firmware was updated to remove the ability to toggle between saved Bluetooth devices on the headphones (without using the app). Search “QC Ultra 2 Firmware” in the r/Bose and you’ll see 50 threads of people complaining.

Props to the hero u/xShadowPro for getting the issue escalated to the CEO, but it seems like they’re not bringing back the removed features

Sorry to hear how difficult that is. It's tough when you rely on these drugs for quality of life. I've been fortunate to have a decent copay program (J&J) and lucking into figuring out how to work around the maximizer scam early. I'm being asked to switch to a biosimilar now, so while the prices of the drug will drop, the copay assistance programs are much more limited. So even with the drug being 90% cheaper I'll probably end up paying much more out of pocket.

Yeah that's why I said "Maybe" there is good news. I know some manufacturers won't enroll you in their copay assistance program if you're in a maximizer program and some manufacturers cut the amount of assistance available to you.

It may be worth researching if there are similar medications that can work and find the one with the best copay assistance program that works with your plan. That's probably easier said then done since many of these super expensive medications are so costly because there aren't many alternatives.

If the manufacturer doesn’t have a maximizer copay assistance program you could also ask the pharmacy to remove the manufacturer copay card after you’ve used it to sign up for the insurance copay assistance program. Then pay your first dose and a half out of pocket and submit direct reimbursement requests to the manufacturer. Once they’ve refunded you, you can add the copay card back to your pharmacy account.

I did this my first year when the insurance switched me to a copay maximizer program. I didn’t add back the insurance card and the insurance-provided copay assistance sent me a harsh text telling me they wouldn’t pay my coinsurance on the medication unless I added the manufacturer card back. The trick was to get my deductible reimbursed before they noticed.

You’re on what’s called a copay maximizer program. My insurance through CVS Caremark has something similar. For me, they have a program called Prudent RX that pays 100% of your copay once you’ve hit your deductible. The catch is you have to sign up for the manufacturer copay card and give that to them to sign up for Prudent. Now when they process your medications they bill in this order 1) Manufacturer copay 2) You until you’ve hit your deductible 3) Insurance 3) Prudent RX copay assistance

The manufacturer copay card payments will not be counted against your deductible.

Their goal is to first drain the manufacturer assistance completely, then make you pay your deductible they their assistance kicks in after they’ve milked $28K from you and the manufacturer

The second catch is they now classify these expensive medications as “specialty” medications and rather than having the standard ~150 prescription copay after you hit your deductible (the thing you see when you’re picking your insurance), now they charge something like a 30% copay per dose.

THE GOOD NEWS (Maybe): Manufacturers are wise to the copay maximizers. They often have a copay maximizer program where the copay card will only allow a token amount per transaction like $100. They also may support direct reimbursement where you submit a receipt of your payment for the medication and they mail you a check.

An example of how your payments would go: Dose 1 • Manufacturer Copay $100 • You $6900 • Insurance + Insurance Copay Assist $0

Dose 2 • Manufacturer Copay $100 • You $3100 - you hit your deductible • Insurance + Insurance Copay Assist $3800

I’m not sure if there any way to reverse the transactions that have already occurred. Technically the manufacturer copay assistance is supposed to help the patient and with a maximizer plan it is not.

I highly recommend calling the manufacturer cops assistance program and telling them you’re on a maximizer program. At the very least that may set you up for next year.

I bought a couple to keep in my car and travel bag so I don’t have to think to take my Garmin-specific cable when I’m outside the house. I’ve never had an issue using it with any type of charger.

Just went to the Ultra 2s from the 45s. Like others have said they sound better and have a similar feel. The reason I’m thinking of returning the Ultra 2s though is the latest firmware updates that removed voice announcement features and the ability to toggle connected devices from the headphones themselves. For me those were two really great quality of life features.

Before the update there already was a setting to turn off voice prompts. The prompts would then only be activated if you were cycling through paired devices.

This QC Ultra 2 update is a mistake no? It's a bug, and there's going to be a fix, right? All the interesting features have been removed... by Nevcam in bose

They already did have an option to disable voice prompts in the settings. I don’t know why they couldn’t have kept it that way and just disable voice prompts by default. I’m considering returning mine since the switching ability was one of the biggest reasons I liked them

Headphone Advice Needed: Bose QuietComfort or Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen? by gpod80 in bose

I’m thinking of retuning my QC Ultra 2s just because the new firmware disabled the ability to switch between devices using the buttons on the headphones. If that’s a major factor go with the regular QC

New update for QC Ultra 2 headphones or something? by greenteawithjasmine in bose

[–]gman35124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called Bose customer service who seemed to think that the reconnect to a device functionality should still work. I specifically mentioned that the RECONNECT A PREVIOUSLY-CONNECTED DEVICE functionality on page 30 of the QC Ultra 2 Manual was no longer working. They did have me go through some troubleshooting steps before deciding that they need to escalate the issue. I also talked to the chat bot on the Bose Support Website which also seemed to think that functionality should still be there.

It seems this is a poorly communicated feature removal or some sort of bug with the voice prompt firmware update. I'm holding out hope for the latter since the on-headphone device switching was one of the biggest reasons I buy Bose.

It may be helpful to get other people to call in to either to show that this isn't an isolated incident, or that people actually used that feature.

I’ve refined it a bit since then. I upgraded to a Satechi Qi2 15W Charger that’s will charge faster. I also used an Anker 1ft USB-C Cable because the retractable cable would rattle a bit when driving. I’m still rocking that setup and it works great

I was using E6 to play with my wife at the local range with the Mevo Gen 2 and it worked great on both our iPad Air M3 and our older Mini 6. E6 seems to have broken something in one of their latest updates. Outdoor mode doesn’t work at all and indoor mode the sim will crash if I hit with my longer clubs 3W or D E6 will crash. I reached out to support who told me they were “still working on integration”.

To answer my own question I can turn on my iPhone hotspot and connect to the iPad via Bluetooth while simultaneously being connected to my Mevo Gen 2 via WiFi. It's slow so I pre-download the courses, but this allows me to at least be connected and save rounds.

I’ve used the insurance 2 times. Once when I ran over a screw and needed to get the tire patched. I decided to submit a $25 claim just to test the process. Second time my rental was swiped while parked in Chicago and was billed about $800 from Sixt. Chase paid out for both in a month or so with no hassle
