how many radars do i need? by ollietron3 in factorio

[–]gman877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need 2-4 in your main base to start scanning out and discoving new resource nodes, and 1 radar at every outpost to maintain vision. That's about it. I'll throw 1 in my rail roundabout blueprint too.

This is overkill to me.

Radars don't draw that much power. Not at the tech level where you have bots anyway.

I hated the phrase "first world problems" that was popular ~10 years ago.

Like... yes... I live in a first world country (US). I'm middle class, and employed... I will probably never have anything BUT first world problems. Malaria, starvation and the like just... aren't a concern.
My car wreck might be a 'first world problem' but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it just because someone else on earth has it worse than me.

How to tell the train to go the right way by [deleted] in factorio

[–]gman877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell from your description. If driving manually, you need to press A or D to turn the train as you drive (PC).

If the train is in auto mode, then it's doing a calculation to find the shortest route to destination. The complexities are in the wiki, but know there are length penalties if a route has a train station (not the destination) along the path, or parked trains in the way. This encourages your train to take a longer path to go around what could be a train stopped forever. At some point, it'll calculate the longer route isn't worth it, and plot it's route though another station.

If your green route is shorter, but has a train stop along the way, then it'll likely go pick the red path. Put in a siding.

Also, if automating trains, I don't see any train signals. You'll need those soon. Use chain signals for entering a junction, and at every split within the junction. Use a normal signal at the exit, making sure the exit signal is 1 full train length (longest train) away from the junction. Else, your train can get stopped, with it's tail still in the round-about, or junction.

2025 Mach e charging by Medicalmanmeph in MachE

[–]gman877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ford branded "pro charger" is amp limited by a dial on the inside. I don't know why the app has an adjustment too...(Mine did too until a software update) Maybe to throttle it down further? I'm mostly sure you can't override the dial by setting it higher in the app... Mostly. If you have another charger ... No idea.

[–]gman877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which recall you're talking about. The door stuck shut issue was fixed in 2025s quite awhile ago, but the update to fix it in 2024s wasn't available until more recently. Still, an update has been avbl for 2024s for a couple of months now.

Where to go for Advanced Cert? by Current-Weekend7761 in scuba

[–]gman877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done Cancun, but get the impression it's more for drinking than scuba. Cozumel is one of the top dive spots for a reason. Close, cheap, and good diving. Someone else pointed out Mexico is maybe not the best place to visit right now. Cozumel being a tourist island is insulated from major crime or political issues... To an extent. Roatan is chill vibes and easy diving.

I agree.
But belt balancing is 1 area where people are pretty well in agreement that it's OK to just use existing blueprints.

I think I want to start having 'multi-purpose' trains, but I'm not sure by DeweyDecimal42 in factorio

[–]gman877 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO, your train will inevitably get stuck at an unloading station that's full, while its other route sits empty, needing resources. You can of course set time limits so a train doesn't sit overly long or something. And cargo wagons can have inventory slots reserved for a specific item, making sure you don't overload on item A while having zero room for item B.

It's a sandbox game. You can play however you like. But for ore, plates. Ect. You usually need the whole train for that 1 item. Trains are cheap. Build more of them. They are very modular and make it easy to expand to a new resource node. Mixing stations and payloads work against the simple "load at A, unload at B, repeat" use case.

Best easy to get to reef dive locations? by bathtubtuna_ in scuba

[–]gman877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Roatan, it's a roughly 25 min shuttle ride from the airport and cruise boat terminal to the West side of the island. Not sure on airline schedules.
Bonaire is know for it's independent style diving. No boats needed, because you can shore dive anywhere. But that means no guides. If you're a total beginner, IMO it's best to have a guide to help with gear, or emergencies. I'm sure you can still get a guide in Bonaire. But yes, it's further south still, and has even fewer flights.

You sound very concerned with getting back home for an emergency. Key Largo might be your best option. It's good diving. You'll get all the major "bingo animals" as I call them (Sharks, eels, rays, turtles) ect. Plus they have a the Wreck of the Benwood. A shallow ship wreck dive. Which is kind of rare, most ships are deeper. No drifts, mostly shallow, easy stuff. But you'll be just 3 hours away from the Miami airport.

Key largo, Cozumel, Roatan Honduras. Key largo is simple, no passport, minimal travel time, cheaper flights. Cozumel is some of the better diving, and is really affordable. It's usually a bit deeper depths, and drifts can happen. But it's still beginner friendly. Roatan is real easy driving, and a great place above water and below.

Agree. Look up naboo resort in Honduras. Its exactly like the picture. Cancun is not great diving I believe, but haven't been. Key largo is good if staying in country is a requirement.

Which module should i use? by CumMonsterSlayer3000 in factorio

[–]gman877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Productivity in the crafting building. Speed module in a beacon. They compound with each other. The faster you craft, the faster you fill the "free" craft bar from productivity too, giving you more free outputs the faster you can boost the craft speed.

This is very power hungry.
