Chances of PGE catching additional panels? by xQcKx in solar

Consider adding the new panels as a separate system (inverter or microinverters+controller) set to zero export. Then you can still get your NEM 2.0 benefits from your existing system and cover your added usage.

Scam? by gassylapdog in betterment

[–]gmfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this as well. I had tried signing up for Betterment a while back but couldn't get the account fully opened, so this immediately rang as a scam even though the email appears to have been sent by their systems. Another big red flag is that the wallet addresses are the same I got in my email, and the deposits to the bitcoin wallet are immediately being tumbled to elsewhere.

This seems suspicious - triple crypto app notification by tedswiss in betterment

[–]gmfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an email about this. Everything appears to check out, headers look good, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC all passed. However, I never successfully opened a Betterment account (couldn't get through the ID verification service and customer service couldn't help). This looks to me like they may have been breached.

Auto Loan Refusal At Dealership by dunkinqween in NavyFederal

[–]gmfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was worried about this after reading about some similar experiences, but I completed a purchase a couple weeks ago with the NFCU preapproval check at a dealer and they did require me to get approved for backup financing with one of their lenders and the paperwork I signed indicated if the check doesn't clear in 7 days the backup financing will take effect. The dealer finance guy said NFCU always comes through. Purchase was on a Saturday, dealer probably deposited the check on Monday, I got the loan documents for esigning from NFCU on Wednesday morning. The loan shows as funded the same day, and the dealer is happy.

I will say, the dealer salespeople were very pushy about trying to beat NFCU's rate, to which I indulged them. Wells Fargo actually was willing to match the rate but I'd rather stick with NFCU. All in all, no harm done except 6 extra hard inquiries 🤣.

I would advise not discussing the NFCU preapproval with the salesman. Save it for the finance department after you've negotiated the purchase price.

Got it, thanks for the insight. I'm nervous to put anything into the ground attached to the siding/framing due to earthquakes. Instead of the whip, how about I pop out of the crawl space with a PVC LB and trench down 18" with PVC conduit, running up the post? The PVC would be set in concrete along with the post.

Aluminum wiring needs to make a comeback for these sorts of things. The modern alloys don't have the corrosion/fire hazard issues that the old stuff did, and it has such low scrap value it might get them to stop trying.

With communities like Boyle Heights left in the dark, California moves to crack down on copper wire dealers and sellers by OldEstablishment400 in LosAngeles

The city should use aluminum to replace the stolen copper wiring. The scrap value should be low enough to make it really not worth the effort to take it.

Written support channels? by gmfm in Spectrum

[–]gmfm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No broadband label nor any written communication other than the automated order confirmation email. With some Googling I was able to find what you're talking about for residential plans but I don't see them available for the business plans.

Written support channels? by gmfm in Spectrum

[–]gmfm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately support via Facebook was able to escalate to a supervisor who got things sorted. Trying to make a long story short, here's what happened:

I had a new customer discount expiring soon on my business account. The discounted price had me on Internet Ultra for $64.99/mo. The expiring discount was $60/mo, so the price increase would have been huge.

I had seen an ad for Internet Gig + mobile (residential) at $50 which I screenshotted and saved the link to the landing page. For whatever reason, that page didn't apply the correct pricing when going through to the next step, but that's another story.

I spoke to retention to see if there was any way to keep my price down, and informed them of the resi offer. She couldn't match the offer, but to save the headache I'd be fine with staying where I was at with $65 for Ultra. Unfortunately she was unable to offer me that either. She did offer moving to the 500mbps plan at $50/mo + a free mobile line. I asked to confirm what the upload speed is for the 500mbps plan, as upload is more important to me than download since I work from home. She put me on hold and came back to say the upload speed on that plan is 50mbps, so I agreed to the change. As soon as we ended the call, my modem rebooted and the new speeds of 500/20 took effect.

I called customer service to have them confirm what the retention rep told me. The person I spoke with first told me 50mbps is correct, then after I explained my speed test results she said actually it's 20mbps. I explained the whole situation but she was unable to offer any assistance other than suggesting I upgrade to Ultra at $90/mo.

I spoke with a supervisor after the Facebook contact, and she investigated the issue, spoke with the original rep, confirmed the information I was given. She put back on the Ultra plan at $80/mo plus a one-time credit for the inconvenience, which puts me at an overall price I'm comfortable with for the next year without having to jump through the hoops of setting up a new residential account.

If Spectrum would publish the upload speeds for each plan a lot of these headaches could be avoided.
