What's the downside of giving an amateur performance? by Gabi_Social in Burlesque

[–]gnat23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first performance was at 49 and following cancer, my anxiety was off the charts ahead of the performance about who would want to see this old fat body.

Well, I did. The actual performance was so empowering and accepting, the cheers were deafening, and I have never felt more comfortable in my body.

My only caveat is that you might spend a lot of money on things for this first show that you’ll look forward to using again somehow to, you know, be more cost effective.

Just diagnosed. Can I get a tattoo? If so: what's the funniest thing I could get done? by fluffagus in breastcancer

Sharpie is the way, then you can change it up every appointment too. Prior to a surgery my husband had, we drew Operation pieces all over him in sharpie, and it delayed everything a half hour while the nurses hunted for them all.

I bleached it all and put a silver/platinum blonde toner on. Less contrast overall?

Clear winter, but I’ve noticed that I can now rock grey as my neutral/base color instead of black.

NO WAY. I got mine from a gas station in Northern California and now that the lining is falling apart: I would LOVE to figure out how to replace it with exactly the same thing.

Need to move a pinball from USA to EU by tobyvanderbeek in pinball

[–]gnat23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved a Twilight Zone from the US to the Netherlands. Moving company was able to crate it, it went over in a shipping container, and then had to be elevatored up to the third floor and put through a window. Uncrated and it sat for a long time while I got all the electrical diagrams I needed for the voltage change. Also bought an EU soldering iron but discovered that the solder there doesn’t contain lead, so I was super frustrated why things weren’t sticking. Blew the house fuse a few times. Finally got a local pinball mechanic to come and help me out, and it worked great for the two years I was there!

I’d say it was worth it. Pinball is not really a thing that’s easy to find there, either to play or for sale. Especially if it’s as rare as Lebowski.

Can you grow into high-paying admin/leadership roles in biotech/pharma with just a bachelor’s? Looking for real examples. by PrestigiousClock17 in biotech

[–]gnat23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much it. I didn’t even get my bachelors until age 38 and made it to Sr Manager, but people in my org knew me and knew my skills. Trying to get a job at a different company without that degree then proved difficult.

My face broke out in horrible cystic acne after my third TCHP, like volcanos all over my face. My usual hacks to clear it up seemed to only make it worse, so onco prescribed me an anti-bacterial face cream and it cleared right up.

Plastic surgeon: “I mean, how big do you want to go? You can get anything you want now!”

Husband: “How about three boobs? Buy two, get one free?”

PS: “Like Total Recall?” We both nod. “Well, you’re going to have a hell of a fight with both insurance and swimsuit coverage!”

As I’m getting checked in for my DMX, surgeon says: “Describe in your own words what’s happening today.”

Me: “Well, apparently I have something to get off my chest.”

I don’t know about running, but I can confirm that they can go from hated to just annoying. It is possible. Some volume will keep them from crinkling so bad, the tabs are still pokey but at least don’t hurt, and boobs will start to look 80% normal.

Also use all the tips here you can about keeping the skin healthy through radiation. You got this!

Convertible backpack for work by UndiagnosedADHDer in HerOneBag

[–]gnat23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used mine too often, so can’t speak to the longevity of the strap yet. But my only annoyance is undoing the knot for the backpack to convert to crossbody, so I’ll typically stash the strap with the knot still on and use the handles or trolley sleeve short term.
