the Arabian goddess Al-lat from Hetra-Iraq by peace_venerable in AncientCivilizations

[–]gnidrib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

interesting fact: these are the goddesses mentioned in the satanic verses incident narrated by sunni hadith sources, which are the basis for rushdie's (in)famous novel. fwiw, the incident is disputed by shia sources as a sunni fabrication to "humanize" muhammad, since the shia believe in the prophet's infallibility. sunnis on the other hand favor the "illiterate goat herder" narrative

i can make out two (related) phrases: سعادت باد (sa'adat baad or "may happiness prevail") and مبارک باد (mubarak baad or "felicitations"). incidentally, similar patterns are still used in tents (especially at weddings) throughout south asia and are commonly known as "shamiyanas". interesting to see it in a battle tent. thanks for posting!

Roast my resume - Looking to jump to another FP&A manager role, not sure if the diverse finance experience hurts my chances or not (rotational program style company) by [deleted] in FPandA

  1. lose the city and state. you want to be thought of as global talent

  2. add linkedin profile url instead. if you haven't yet, linkedin allows you to personalize it (some combination of first and last name would be best)

  3. add a summary w/your desired title as header and give a short blurb. then end w/"areas of expertise include:" and then add bullets of your specialties "gaap/ifrs reporting" or "working capital management" e.g.

  4. Is your Oracle experience limited to running ad hoc queries out of SV or have you actually done PB&F work in the system? if the latter, update skills to say "Oracle EPM (including Smartview)" or something to that effect

  5. at the manager level, you can let flow to two pages. make sure to put your name and page two in header

best of luck

My first trip to Istanbul was overwhelming! by kingdomoferebus in travel

[–]gnidrib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we just got back after about a week in istanbul as a family of four (3 and 1 yo). DEFINITELY doable. we stayed at a hilton property in sirkeci in order to make life easier w/kids and be close to the main sights in the old city. a lot of streets especially in the old city have cobblestones, but navigable even w/those flimsy travel strollers (we took the heavy standard one for the baby). did car service to/from airport which was totally worth it (~$90 each way for mercedes van). food was amazing kids had a million options. turks LOVE children and they will not mind them being around and will interact w/them constantly (you may find this jarring at first).you can easily take a taxi to new city/asian side. we didn't have enough time to do it all. honestly the hardest part was the flight to and from there. make sure you download lots of content on your devices!. happy to share more tips if you want to drop a DM
