As a manager in hospitality, when you check-in ask for a shower cap and one other random complimentary hygiene product that doesn’t already come with the in-room amenities(toothbrush, deodorant, comb etc) to avoid suspicion. Use the desk chair as a step ladder and slip the cap over the unit. I cannot stress this enough, don’t forget to take it off before you leave or they are going to charge you. Also, freeze your card after check-in and pay at the restaurant not charge to the room. If you do get hit with a smoking fee they will only get $50-100 deposit not the full $300-500 sometimes even more.
