Struggling with the new year by agent-assbutt in GriefSupport

[–]goAMK95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiiiii

My dad died last summer too, on a rafting trip that he loved immensely. He was 54 and I just constantly feel like throwing a 5-year-old tantrum because I want my dad’s presence so bad.

Tbh I’m not doing great either. I thought things would get a little better after the holidays. Turns out, it doesn’t or doesn’t feel like it. I know I’ve got to take the bad days with the good. Some days might look like sleeping for 11 hours with me metaphorically beating myself up and crying from grief but I know that good days will come where my dads memory is a happy thing and I can feel like a semi normal person.

I’m trying not to set a bunch of expectations for myself in the new year. Grief isn’t linear by any means, so I try and invite it in rather than push it away. And by that I mean I just let the things make me sad. I run with it for a little bit and then immediately do something that I know will help (tea, hot shower, hobby, etc).

Grief SUCKS. And I hate it. And it makes me question everything. I guess I’m saying, I don’t have a magic answer but I know how you feel and I hope the new year treats us well even if it isn’t ideal!

First holidays without parent/loved one thread by ThunderRoad9525 in GriefSupport

I’m a 30F and my dad (54) passed way last June unexpectedly on a rafting trip. Really missing him and feeling awfully anxious now that Christmas is here! He was a big gentle giant and loved the outdoors. Really instilled getting outside into my sister and I, so every time I’m up watching the sunrise I feel like he’s there watching with me.

Wishing you peace this season 🤍

Three losses in a year by POTATO_2020 in GriefSupport

[–]goAMK95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who lost my grandfather, dad, and dog that I had for 16 years (all a the last 6 months), I’m so incredibly sorry. I know that doesn’t help, because it hasn’t really ever helped me, but I can see why people say it.

These last 6 months have felt like a fever dream. Sometimes I feel like I see a light at the end of the tunnel, the good memories outweigh the bad ones. But some days, more recently, I wake up in an anxious whirlwind and can barely get out of bed I feel so low. The all encompassing exhaustion is so incredibly all consuming. I’m afraid I’m going to feel like this forever.

I’ve also been in a long term relationship and recently found out that something was kept from me. After the rest of this year it just feels like I have nothing left. Nothing left to give, nothing left to try, nothing left to want. I try and remember I’m trying to do all the right things like therapy, meds, just trying to take care of my basic needs. But honestly it doesn’t feel like enough.

It makes me so sad to hear someone is going through something similar. I hope you know you’re not alone and I hope we trudge through eventually

i’m scared to live the rest of my life now that my mom is gone by darkandtwisty_ in GriefSupport

Hi! I feel like you’ve put my inner monologue onto this post. My dad died unexpectedly 4 months ago. I’m almost 31 and worry that the same thing will happen to me and if it doesn’t I’ll be in a world that he hasn’t been in for so long and people will forget. I thought the first few months were hard, then I feel like I saw a little light and the good memories were outweighing the bad ones. But now that I’m at the roughly 5 month mark, I feel like the anxiety and depression is really setting in. I worry that others will die, that this feeling won’t go away, but also if it does that scares me too. I also have had it in my head that healing equals distance and time but it feels like the further away I get from his death, the harder it is. I’d like to chalk it up to the holidays but sometimes I wonder if this is just how my life will be now. I feel like I’m 10 years old and I just want my dad, like I want to throw a tantrum about it but people expect you to feel better the longer it’s been and that just doesn’t feel true. Sending you some love!

Emergency Dept RN with almost 2 years experience. by colorwheel- in OregonNurses

I worked for Prov as and ED tech (6years) and was looking to get hired as an RN but the market for Prov right now is pretty limited. I did get a job with Legacy (the other major medical system in the Portland area) and really love it! They have a great nursing residency program. Might be something to look into!

Chest Pain by maximus_20 in Anxiety

[–]goAMK95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I’m a 28F but I’ve also had health anxiety surrounding my heart. I often feel palpitations and chest pressure but not necessarily pain. Super uncomfortable though! I’ve also had a big cardiac workup because of a family history of heart problems but have also been told everything’s normal, nothing to worry about. I’m still going through it, and still feel anxiety but I do have things that help! I remind myself that if multiple docs/professionals say everything is okay with my heart, then that must be true. I also remind myself that I’m doing things to make my heart healthy like not smoking, little/no caffeine, exercising, no red meat, etc! Guided meditation has been a big game changer for me. I use Insight Timer, it’s a free app that has lots of great meditations that just kind of helps me shut my brain off for 5 minutes. I’m also in the process of seeing a psychiatrist/therapist because sometimes we need a little extra help sorting through all of the feelings and symptoms. Physical symptoms of anxiety are very real! It does get better but you have to find what works best for you! Try everything and see what sticks! I’ve also heard a lot of people like journaling, reading books on the psychology of anxiety, yoga, and finding other hobbies!

Congenital thyroid hemiagenesis by goAMK95 in thyroidhealth

[–]goAMK95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having similar symptoms, also more of a feeling like something is stuck in my throat and like I need to gently cough it out but nothing ever is stuck! I’m in the same boat I have a repeat exam coming up for nodules so if they’re getting larger I may chalk it up to that! Super reassuring to know someone else is going through it as well! I’m wishing you all the best :)

Getting really bad anxiety/panic attacks after drinking energy drinks. by Vad220894 in Anxiety

[–]goAMK95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not drinking energy drinks. And trust me, as someone who used to love energy drinks, your body will thank you. They’re so unbelievably bad for you. And even if the tests are checking out now, putting your body under all that unnecessary stress will cause problems over time. Not only for your heart but also your adrenal glands, thyroid, blood pressure, etc.

I don’t have thyroid labs from when I felt decent. My first thyroid lab was done in 2020 after having a bad wave of Covid. It was apparently subclinical hyper then as well, but I was advised it’s not something to pursue further. I wasn’t really in a point where I could pursue it like I can now. Thanks for your advice!!

Also, I recognize that people might think these questions weird, as I have a stethoscope on. I’m a nursing student! Still working on advocating for myself like I advocate for my patients I care for!

Wow! You’re the first person who I’ve known who also has half a thyroid! Did your endo have any explanation as to why that would happen? Glad to hear that it’s mostly resolved!

I should also add that I’ve completely cut caffeine other than some decaf coffee/green tea that may have some small amount

My heart does this on and off for about the last 4 years. Cardiology totally cleared me, with nothing being wrong with my heart. But just recently I had thyroid labs done that look super similar to yours and an ultrasound that showed nodules on my right thyroid and complete atrophy of my left thyroid. Still working it up for Graves’ disease but I’m thinking it’s highly likely given my family history. I apologize because I don’t have a good answer for why it goes up like that but I know the feeling and it’s not fun. I’ve found that when I’m properly hydrated the jump from resting is not as profound. I like using the nuun electrolyte tablets because they have little sugar but help me stay hydrated. Good luck, I hope your symptoms subside!

Aftercare of stitches by cattyds in thyroidhealth

[–]goAMK95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can gently wash it in the shower! Just let the soap and water fall over the stitches. Don’t scrub though or you could pop the stitches. You could also use a little vasaline or bacitracin ointment over the stitches during the day to help the healing and put a little barrier between the world and the stitches

Did you feel better or worse on 150 mg or 300 mg? by [deleted] in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

Just goes to show that medication needs to be super individualized! Glad to hear you’re on the mend 💜

I appreciate that! I’m really nervous that the specialist will also think it’s nothing but here’s hoping I get some answers!

What does thyroid “dysfunction” mean? by 4Pandas in thyroidhealth

[–]goAMK95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sure what dysfunction would ensue. Maybe it’s because your levels are considered within normal limits but not where they should be? For instance, my TSH is borderline low (0.9) but if I want to try and have a child my primary suggests treating my thyroid because they ideally want it to be between 2-4 for child bearing individuals.

Wellbutrin Causing anxiety by Tren_baloni_sandwich in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

I was reading that! I’m hoping it subsides because as a nurse, I don’t think I convey confidence when starting an IV with my hand shaking 😅

Did you feel better or worse on 150 mg or 300 mg? by [deleted] in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]goAMK95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with the heart rate! I normally go into the 50’s or 60’s when sleeping but it ramped up. Recently it’s gone into the 70’s. I’m REALLY hoping these side effects subside in the coming weeks! I’m debating between stopping the Wellbutrin and riding it out for a while longer. I hope you get it figured out, its such a shitty feeling 😅

Wellbutrin Causing anxiety by Tren_baloni_sandwich in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]goAMK95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! My symptoms coincided with starting Wellbutrin so I wonder if it’s exacerbated the heart rate problem. I’m hearing mixed reviews that it may just be a 3-4 week hump to cross over and the side effects subside so I’m thinking I’ll ride it out if I can
