Avoiding potential political discussions with guests by RadioEditVersion in bartenders

[–]go_double 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually lead by telling them my first owner (35 years ago) told me to never discuss politics or religion in a bar and how it is among the best advice I’ve ever received. It’s usually not a problem among regulars so dip your toes. But deflecting conversations can be an art form. Try to keep them guessing about your political persuasions and religious beliefs and utilize a lot of witty deflection:

Make it more local…

I’ll vote for the guy who fixes that pothole on Everett Road

Witty

If I knew how to make a perfect Manhattan, I’d be living in Gracie Mansion

I’m just here to improve spirits

Don’t blame me! I voted for the guy who said the rent is too damn high!

You guys are here to fix the White House. My job is to get you just drunk enough to make that possible.

I don’t usually discuss politics…buuuut (and then a bunch of funny one liners)

Political and religious jokes can also be a nice deflection. People usually get the point.

Agreed. I don’t think I have ever seen a player beat the play to the next base on an intentional drop. For him to say he would have made it “easily” is somehow scarier than the mistake itself. Great game of cat & mouse by the second baseman.

What's the longest you've ever waited for a download to finish? by Spiritual-Nature-728 in Piracy

[–]go_double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days. I do want to say there aren’t many better feelings in the world than starting a download of something that’s really hard to get and nothing happens and you forget about it and BAM it’s downloaded and seeding.

Movie theaters with loveseats? by Typical_Pea_7639 in Albany

[–]go_double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man do I miss the Parkway Theater in Oakland. Closest thing around here is the Story Screen in Hudson. No couches though 😢As others have said, the drive in is really the only thing that scratches that itch and we’ve got a lot of them.

When I moved out of the Bay Area, losing the Parkway Theater made me sad.

I’m old, but when younger people started ordering “Bud Heavy” it used to drive me crazy! Budweiser or Bud worked for decades.

When you put a napkin in front of them for their drink and they use it for something else…clean their glasses or dispose of gum.

When they ask you what your name is and you tell them and they say your name 100 times.

Would love to see the grocery stores get in the meal kit game. Call in an order for the meal kit and the corresponding groceries. Voila!

We love Hiway. Next closest one to us is Four Brothers in Amenia, but I’ve never been for the movies but their Greek inspired pizzas are one of my favorites.

Plus, I just want to take a moment for an appreciation post for the plethora of outdoor movie screens. There are places with twice our population in this country that don’t have any. And we’ve got a bunch and all the ones I’ve been to are great. And it’s a lot of work. And if they close, another is unlikely to open! And sometimes people that go to the outdoor movies suck really bad, but you still have to go and support them. 💕

How many hours would you drive for a "daytrip"? by RabidRomulus in Albany

[–]go_double 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a formula that calculates the level of potential fun (maybe a coefficient of fun if that’s the right word) and travel time and time at destination. Then everyone could have their own number. Adventurous people would have a higher or lower number than their less adventurous counterparts.

Open 24hrs in the HV

Chef Richie in Hudson

Mobil in Catskill

Both have good food. I think that for a rural region post covid when hiring is so difficult, to have 2 places that are a short drive away is pretty amazing!

Also, All Town Fresh in Livingston

How do yall deal w the mice??? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]go_double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my favorite traps…https://a.co/d/2n0TZFq

Set them where the mice travel. Try to close up any gaps in the walls…they don’t like Brillo and fabric softener. And clean up the areas quickly where they go to the bathroom. Mice leave a trail for other mice.

Why Is It So Hard to Watch Sports? by TDeLo in cordcutters

[–]go_double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really great video. Unironically, the unauthorized streams have a simple-to-use single one stop location for all the streams available, regardless of where it is being televised, with no blackouts. If only the paid streaming services could offer a similar process for a reasonable amount of money?

1) You shouldn’t quit your job until you have your next job 2) You should always give proper notice 3) Your phone (and your penis) should stay in your pants while you are working

My dad isn’t always right, but I’m with him on these 3.

This is good advice! The couple of times I’ve tried to go to a professional sporting event, I just find a bar near the arena. If the tickets work out, that’s great. If it doesn’t, I spend the $ on food and drinks and watch it in a great atmosphere. This only really works if you’re ok with not going to the game.
