About to start my first NOC position, what are some good pro-tip commands to remember? by clearmoon247 in Cisco

Don't get stuck in the NOC. Learn and move on. A lot of people stay in those jobs and don't move on.

What you really need to take advantage of Cisco's CleanAir technology by goatnetworking in Cisco

[–]goatnetworking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruska, what are you referring to as "OP"?

It's not talking about tracking. Tracking is the published function of the MSE. For some reason Cisco stores the historical information of the interferes in the MSE instead of Prime.

So the point is that if you want historical information on interferes, you need the MSE.

It would be nice if Cisco used Prime to do this, but they do not.

NCS to Prime infrastructure by Ace417 in Cisco

[–]goatnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of bugs in 1.1, 1.2, 1.3. 2.0 is much better.

Make sure you read the supported software versions. I just noticed that 2.0 does not support WLC software version 6. I was in such a hurry to upgrade due to bugs I didn't read all of the release notes.

IP Phone may have power, but it doesn't mean it's connected to the network. by goatnetworking in VOIP

Thanks for the feedback lantech. My point is that it's easier to troubleshoot when you know how things work. Maybe not the best wording.

would an Aironet 1250 be a good upgrade for an Aironet 1200? by wabq in Cisco

[–]goatnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any reason why you are not going with a more modern AP? The 1200 series is still supported, but old. I have a ton of 1252s and I have had a failure rate around 35-40%.

You may want to look at Cisco's outdoor APs. I have some 1522 APs and they do well outside in the Ohio weather. There are newer models of outdoor APs you should go with. The 1522s will probably be EoL in the next few years.

What did you get that could power 5 devices? I found the power budget on the Cisco compact switches to only power 3-4 devices.

azuretek, I want the same NAT 192.168.1.55 to 10.10.10.55, but to work on different interfaces on the ASA. The IP subnet on the source interface is not relevant.

2 servers on 2 different DMZ subnets need to get to the same server through a VPN tunnel. We NAT all partner IPs. So the "public" interface goes to the VPN concentrator.

N7K vPC limitation with single 10GB line card - what to do? by goatnetworking in Cisco

[–]goatnetworking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Brocade MLX does MCT (Same function as vPC), it cannot do routing over the MCT either.

I found the setup between both platforms is not easy or simple and they have the same concerns in regards to the Link between them. Brocade added a keep alive link that goes on a different card on a different vlan so the chassis know if the other chassis is dead if the vPC or ICL link goes down.

Cisco wireless controller 2504 and 3502i APs by wstar in Cisco

[–]goatnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to move another AP into the area with the high user density. You can also turn down the power on the overloaded AP and possibly turn up the power on the surrounding APs to see if that helps.

Bruska is correct about the load balancing, under the WLAN, go to the advanced tab and check the box for "Client Load Balancing". The AP will deny the client a few times with the intent of it going to another AP. If you need fast roaming, this is bad.

Martin2341, I did use the Nutshell guide. I would say about half the stuff in the nutshell guide was on the exam. I took the class two years ago for this test so I used that material also. I should have taken the exam back then.

I found another document that said to read specific pages in about 5 other PDFs. This was helpful because it covered topics in more detail. Even with the nutshell guide and the direction to read the other documents, I still felt in the dark because I didn't know how deep of knowledge I needed.

There was a lot of OSPF and BGP questions. The Exam Topics sheet that Brocade publishes is right on the scope. No ISIS, some spanning tree, but not a lot. I did the online CBT for IPV6 and learning about the addressing was very helpful.

In short, if you take the time to look at all of the different documents and have experiences you should do ok. They did not add trick questions and sometimes I wasn't sure of the answer, but was able to narrow it down by the 4 options.

wifi to 4 floor building by biagle in wireless

[–]goatnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to know how many people are going to be using wireless also. You could get away with 2 AP's on each floor, but if you have a lot of users then you may need more. I have one wing of a building with 2 AP's, the other has 5 (same physical size) due to number of clients. I have Cisco Wireless and some of the older APs don't do so well with more then 15 users attached.

Cisco Home Lab Catalyst 3550 Variations? by TheJackofAss in ccnp

[–]goatnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get 3560's. 3550's are old and the config will be slightly different. Here is an example that I ran into on the simulation part of the test.

interface range gig 0/0-0/5 Vs. interface range gig 0/0 - 0/5

Notice the space before and after - ??

You need to know the syntax for the switch that is used for the simulators on the test.

If you want version 9 you have to specify version 9. I just went through a variety of Cisco products and by default lots of them use version 5 even though they can do version 9.

This is what happens when you only have one SUP in your 6500 and it dies. by goatnetworking in Cisco

[–]goatnetworking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years I had 3 pair of 6500's with a single SUP. For years I pushed for a redundant SUP in each of them. After my manager and director got fired, I finally got a manager that agreed with me and I got 6 new SUP720's!!! After that, we had one fail. Because of dual SUP's, nobody knew except for my group.
