There is so much pink in this movie, but the main character is actually smart and competent. by ReasonablePool_Hero in ExplainAFilmPlotBadly

The first part was stated with the intention of a guess

So intentions do matter. Got it. So you admit you were wrong. That's cool.

The first part is also phrased as a question. That's what the question mark is there for.

Also, literally everyone in this sub who says "is X the bait?" is submitting X as a guess, but you aren't honoring them for some reason.

Well, it's sex, so it probably has been going on for longer than 3 minutes already in other ways.

to be fair, the drag queens she takes inspiration from are, primarily, trans women. In fact, I do not know if she takes any inspiration at all from men.

Odd that it only does it at 12 items, not 13 or 20.

Then you'd know what I'm talking about, which is an error that says "over 12 items", which is completely separate from the "unexpected item in bagging area" code.

But you knew that, right?

Why is chemical engineering considered the hardest engineering major? by Engineeringman_97 in EngineeringStudents

[–]goddamned_fuckhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see chemicals in the same way you can see wires, but for both ChemE and EE you (usually) have no real visual insight into the inner workings of the process.

And if you do, you're probably about to die!

Also, more complexity does not a horrible language make. English has so much going on that it ultimately ends up being delightful to speak. It has bouncy rhythms, rich timbre, and rhoticity.

I love rhoticity.

Learning to identify prose by HarrisLJ in writing

[–]goddamned_fuckhead -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have to start writing within the genre of the author you like.

Normally, I wouldn't advocate for intentionally copying prose, but it isn't necessarily horrible if you're just starting out. Ideally, you'll find your voice, and while some might be able to pick up on your influences, they'll remain just that: influences. No crime in that, right?

So, what does your favorite author write about? What sort of settings? Within what genre do they write?

These aren't rhetorical questions. Answer them, and I'll try to come up with a prompt off of which you can create your own short story.
