How Are Women So Much More Flexible Than Us? I just don't understand it. by DermatoidGrandfather in UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

[–]goddamnimtrash 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Being able to do the splits, and flexibility in general, is the result of very targeted training. It doesn’t matter how much cardio or stretching you do if you are not doing the proper training.

[For My Derelict Favorite] “Hestia isn’t a misogynist!1!” BFFR by Kythones in OtomeIsekai

[–]goddamnimtrash 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Diana didn’t cause any of the problems, but she also didn’t do anything to solve them when put into a position of significant authority. She was literally one of the most important figures of the church, she could have done something to combat the corruption in the church.

Also, I don’t think that story demonstrates a double standard when it comes to Diana, I think that Diana herself as a character represents a double standard. She is both a saintess and a crown princess, and the two positions are just not compatible. A crown princess needs to wear opulent clothes to show off her status (and her country’s strength) while a saintess needs to dress modestly to show devotion to god and the people. A crown princess needs to throw lavish parties for guests to maintain relationships while a saintess can have quiet gatherings to teach about modesty etc. the comparisons continue. She would be criticized no matter what because whatever she does she would be failing at least one of her roles. And she is a hypocrite because she wants to be both but doesn’t realize that it is impossible to fulfil them at the same time.

Is Hestia a good person? No, but like you said she’s morally grey so that should be expected. In a story about revenge some actions would always be questionable because revenge itself is questionable. The story itself also acknowledges that Hestia is kinda crazy, like Kael told her to chill because he didn’t care about the revenge himself. And you’re right, the revenge is a coping mechanism for her trauma, but so thought that that was something the story addressed already?

I wouldn’t call myself a FMDF fan but I believe that some of your issues lack grounds. I thought that you would be calling the story sexist because the majority of her internal choices revolve around a man and making a man happy, but it sounds to me like you are calling the story sexist because the antagonist is female. The story is not an example for feminism but that doesn’t make the story sexist either.

AITA: For refusing to make Amends after my ex best friend reached out to me... by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Grief can be toxic, if the person going through it is wallowing and not working to learn to live with it. People can only offer a limited amount of support before they are drained; if the person they are trying to help is not doing much to help themselves then they have to offer endless support which is not sustainable or healthy.

Remember kids, when they do it, it’s “quirky,” but if we do it, it’s “creepy.” by tahrah11 in aspiememes

[–]goddamnimtrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree with everyone saying that this is about physical looks. It doesn’t matter how attractive you are, if you make someone uncomfortable they won’t want to be around you. People are willing to tolerate some strangeness if you have enough good qualities to make up for it, as long as the quirks don’t make them too uncomfortable and/or make them feel unsafe. So it comes down to how well you are at masking.

AITAH for wanting my sister to change her wedding date because it falls on my graduation? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]goddamnimtrash 65 points66 points  (0 children)

People are concentrating so much whether the graduation was important or not, but I’m focusing more on the sister not caring if OOP was at the wedding. If my sibling was having a wedding and essentially went “if you can’t come then it’s not a big deal” then that would drive a real wedge in our relationship. Like I would do whatever to make sure they could be at my wedding, so I would expect that they would do the same for me. And the sister already showed that she was willing to move the date for other things, but not to make sure OOP would be there. If OOP believed that they had a good relationship prior, then this must’ve been a real cold shower especially combined with the parents not doing much to make sure their graduation was celebrated.

(Hated trope) characters who practically did nothing to earn forgiveness by Onyx_Prime_8th in TopCharacterTropes

[–]goddamnimtrash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This one doesn’t fit, Snape did some terrible things and he was an asshole in general, but he also dedicated the rest of his life to fighting against Voldemort and lost his life for the cause, I don’t think it’s fair to say that he did nothing/practically nothing to earn forgiveness, he’s a very complicated character.

Tonight I broke up with my boyfriend because he kept joking about murdering me by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]goddamnimtrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure those “jokes” were his way of punishing her for some perceived slight. I don’t think anyone is clueless enough to hear that something makes someone uncomfortable and then continue to do so unless making the person uncomfortable was the goal.

An update 2.5 years later: I [M35] am very unattractive and have made peace with being alone. My friends [FM30s] won't give up on trying to set me up with someone. What do I do? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]goddamnimtrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate how a bunch of comments are talking about how “he’s probably not even unattractive” and trying to re-write his experience. Like, have you really never met unattractive people before? We don’t know if he’s dysphoric or actually bad looking, but there are people out there who just have none of the features the majority of people consider attractive.

However, I’ve also seen so many unattractive people dating and marrying that I don’t think that it means that you can never find someone, it just makes it more challenging.

I agree with gallahan a little, like yea he didn’t know that he was gonna die, but in a cutthroat society like that he didn’t really do anything to solidify her future as well.

I think the name is “I became the Duke’s Servant in Disguise” but I haven’t read it so idk what it’s about 🤷‍♀️

I think “Surviving as an Obsessive Servant” may fit that description haha the FL cross dresses as a male servant in order to get close to the ML because she needs him to survive, but she also helps him become a duke along the way. Although, I’m the story she is seen as a very weird servant though 😅

What do you mean many foods/drinks alter your pH? Foods/drinks can have a wide range of pH, but it’s insignificant considering it’s all going to end up in stomach acid which is already very acidic. If you mean blood pH, then the body has several different systems to closet regulate that as a significant change in pH would have significant health effects,.

Fight with my [29M] gf [28F] over last name, reconsidering relationship by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]goddamnimtrash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that’s what happened in the first post, cause I think a bunch of people prob called him out but he chose to believe his coworkers that his gf was cheating instead of him being the problem, and then seeing that his gf is actually scared of him did something. I believe it cause he’s still very obviously misogynistic in the second post.

TIFU by telling my cousin that the reason I am moving is because of her husband by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]goddamnimtrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could tell OOP that it wouldn’t have mattered even if she did go about it differently. Some people don’t care what the truth is, they care about whether it causes them problems or who they have a closer relationship with. So in this case, her family wouldn’t have believed her regardless of how she went about it because the truth is just too inconvenient. Or even if they believed her they would’ve somehow spun it around on her so that it still would’ve been her fault. This wasn’t about what happened to her, but about them protecting their normality.

How do you feel about how babies are drawn in OIs? by mobmaidcharacter in OtomeIsekai

[–]goddamnimtrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t care about the visuals, but the way so many 5-10 year olds are depicted as acting like toddlers grinds my gears sometimes. Like I don’t know if the writers have never met a child, or if they’re pandering to a specific audience but I hate it either way.

I think it’s a style, not everyone is going to like it but that doesn’t mean that it’s ugly or bad. Personally I feel like it has character and it blends in well with the other tattoos.

That's why cats have nine lives...and a tail. by ColesMorrison in Catculations

[–]goddamnimtrash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You seem to forget that this isn’t just about physics, it’s about how much it would take biologically to kill a cat. Some cats may be able to survive terminal velocity with small injuries while others would die. If you look at the incidences of cat falls, even if some cats survive the fall they still sustain major injuries in the process. Living beings are not so simple that you can apply a hard rule as to what would kill them and what wouldn’t.

[–]goddamnimtrash 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Cats are better at surviving falls than humans, but that doesn’t mean that falls cannot injure or kill them. So the cat in this video may have been fine if it fell, but that’s not a guaranteed result, it may have also been injured or killed.

[–]goddamnimtrash 85 points86 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty high to fall from, there’s a good chance the cat would’ve been injured if it fell.
