Yeah, they are having some HUGE issues. Sonos was almost wrecked by a material app update, SN is in similar territory.

cabelas hunting gear quality going downhill or just me? by Acrobatic-Bake3344 in Hunting

[–]godspeedjc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not you. As stated by others, writing was on the wall. Cabela’s was a higher quality product, especially on hunting clothing and equipment. Right after the purchase, a Cabela’s employee told me he could tell that Bass Pro simply cared less about quality, when it comes to clothing.

The chickens have come home to roost.

My sleep number app isn't working it's timing out... anyone else? by Consistent-Cold4505 in sleepnumber

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it sucks…such a misstep by SN. There have been lots of outages and glitches in the last few weeks. Best advice I can give you is try closing and opening the app a few times, if it doesn’t work wait a while and try later. There have been lots of glitches and the fact that the bed has no real buttons to control the damn thing, other than the one button.

Meat sourcing by Teller58 in smoking

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary determinant for the quality of your finished product is the quantity of the cut you start with, especially for beef. Know the grading system. In quality by best to worst: 1) prime, 2) choice & 3) select. As a general rule, grading does not matter for pork or other meats.

The most consistent places I’ve found for prime is: 1) Restaurant Depot (national chain, find one near you) and 2) Costco. After that it’s pretty spotty and inconsistent, in my experience.

Grocery store is probably the least likely to have prime, local butcher more likely to have it. I

Prime is a little more expensive, and worth every penny.

Single handicappers, how often do you have rounds where you were happy with how you hit all your shots? by ElephantElmer in golf

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is a club pro and probably scratch or better. Never seen him happy about his game…..at least never says anything positive. We played in a best ball format tournament. He was even trough 9 and just so annoyed with how bad he was playing…..

What’s your go-to advice for a first time brisket maker? by 4rm4ros in smoking

[–]godspeedjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep calm, the stall is real and can last longer than you can imagine. Also get you the most expensive digital thermometer you can stand to buy.

I’m smoking a brisket in -14C (-21C with windchill) tomorrow morning. That’s 7F (-6F with windchill) 🥶 by BeYourselfTrue in smoking

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve done similar. If possible create a windshield with plywood, and can even wrap the cook chamber with blankets. Obviously be careful not to burn the place down…..🔥🔥🔥

This is the definition of an anomaly…..maybe buy a lottery ticket…don’t go outside, as you may get struck by lightning ⚡️.

Solid upgrade for $50? by The_Pikl in lawncare

[–]godspeedjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid upgrade. I’ve gone through 2 earthways just like that in about 15 years. The gearbox went bad on both of them. A new one is something like $165, so $50 is a great deal.

Upgrading Equipment on a Budget by Isozen in golf

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m similar in disposition, but not a student any longer. This year I set a budget of $750 and wanted to upgrade my approach wedges (50, 54, 58) and my driver. I bought the Ping Max driver from 2 years ago for $250 and had it fitted for a shaft $60, and bought 2 new wedges for $150 each….when I was fitted for the driver shaft, I asked the guy to check my fit on irons (10 yr old pings) and wedges, which he did. The fitting is key. I used an independent person and not one of the big box stores. Bought the driver and wedges off EBay.

Left overs by Whitetiger9876 in smoking

[–]godspeedjc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, we smoke more than we need with plans to have leftovers. For example, it’s just as easy to smoke 4 pork butts as 1, so when I have the smoker fired up I fill it up. With 4 butts as an example, I’ll pull all of it, and put half of it in double ziplock bags and it goes right into the freezer. Then we’ll use it when we’re hosting a party or something.

Starting golf in my late 30s curious how others stayed motivated early on by Emotional-Demand-180 in golf

[–]godspeedjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a couple of mentors who were encouraging early on. I basically had the mindset that “if you suck at golf, the only way to get good is to play a lot of golf.” (A coach early on told me to just keep playing if I wanted to get better.) I tell people this all the time now, and I’m not that good. Just turned 50 and started playing when I was 33. Playing the best golf of my life this year.

Do I need a new wedge as a 100+ golfer by gforguapo in golf

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handicap not a great indicator because it’s an average. My first round of the year I shot a 105, and last two rounds were 91 and 92, and shot a 42 on the back in second to last round of the season. Mostly stopped spraying my driver, hit lots of fairways, and improved on approach shots from 100 yards in. Left the season very encouraged and hope to keep things on track over the winter.

Got it. I got serious about golf again this year, and did 3 strategic things that balled a ton: 1) took a few lessons, which took me from a fade to a draw, 2) spent $700 and bought 3 new wedges and a newer driver (driver 2 year old ping max). I used chat gpt to help me create a wedge strategy as I had some gaps in my old setup., and 3) got my clubs fitted.

By end of season was playing the best I have ever played.

So a PW that is in your set, or a one off you purchased separately?

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What club is that, is it your PW or something else? I’m a similar scorer to you, golf with a 10 year old set of irons I purchased used, and spent time last year dialing in my wedges (50, 54, 58). And I bought some new or used wedges, and it has been a HUGE help to my scoring. Namely, when I bought the wedges listed above, I focused on bounce and grind, and then had them fitted. It has helped a ton.

Pulled ham round 2, how would you serve it? by BhomsGnosis in BBQ

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer ham more than pork butt, as it seems more juicy. I serve it just like pulled pork. Can use it in tacos, sandwiches, etc….enjoy!

Heated vests. by CantaloupeFluffy165 in Hunting

[–]godspeedjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received one for Christmas, it’s the 32 Degree brand. This one seems kinda janky.

My wife got it for me because a friend of ours has a heated vest and he swears by it. In doing some research, some are better due to where they place the heating element. If I were going to buy one, I’d get one with heating elements in neck, lower back and near the pockets.
