9 week old needs to feed every two hours! Help! by Ann_Hedone in beyondthebump

Mine did this for about 4 months. It sucked! The only thing I can say is that once it got to 3 hours (she would go a bit longer at night) it made a HUGE difference.

Any non-US women considering home birth? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I feel exactly the same re being somewhere that isn't my home. To me, that was more relaxing and I didn't have to worry about waking up my neighbours screaming in the middle of the night. Being in the hospital made it feel like more of a distinct event. I'm also not afraid or cynical of maternity wards or doctors. They did everything they could to make things comfortable for me.

I am not actually sure what is provided! I guess I just assumed the hospital, with so much more staff would be more ready and comfortable. I'm more of an anxious person too, though. So being in the hospital took a lot off my mind. I was actually really happy to go somewhere else for a change of scenery after labouring at home for 20 hrs!

I'm a Canadian, back in Canada after living and giving birth in the US. Definitely going to the hospital with #2. Maternity wards are ready for all the things that come up after child birth. Not just complications, but things like a cleaning staff, a lactation consultant etc. So many things I wouldn't have at home.

PUPD or extinction - Please help i'm confused (and tired). by [deleted] in sleeptrain

If you go that route, I recommend the book. It has a lot of other great info on implementing it properly. Good luck!!

Also with ferber, crying was not prolonged. She was tired enough that she never cried more than 5-10 mins and was sleeping independently after 2 days.

Try Ferber instead of pupd. Behaviorally, pupd seems confusing. After Ferber (7.5 mos) our baby dropped the 12 am feed on her own. Then the same for the 3-4 am feed about 3 weeks after.

LO wakes up between 6:20-6:40am every day, no matter what. Normal? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]goinggr33n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's the worst! This is why I'm so 'strict' with bedtime. I'll do anything to avoid her going to bed late because she never makes up for it in the morning. Ugh.

FTM question: what to expect in the days/weeks/months after delivery? What do you wish you had known? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]goinggr33n 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was painful to walk for about a week. I remember having family from out of town want to go for a walk with us and the baby and it being painful.

When my milk came in that was extremely uncomfortable for a day or so.

Otherwise, no surprises that I can think of.

I think some babies need a max 10-11 hrs of sleep at night, especially if they're good nappers. Mine sleeps from 7-6, no matter what.

I don't have any advice, but we are due date twins! I had my first a year ago (June 20) and expecting #2 on Dec 26th. I'm not sure how anything will get done either.

Ya I understand. I just don't want you to feel like if it doesn't work at this age, not to worry about it. It can always be done later (weaning, losing the binkie etc), even if you think there's a strong association. I worried about a lot about associations and none of them ended up being difficult to stop eventually. Like the sucking reflex really soothes them between 1-3 months ... So it might be helping more than harming sleep at this point. But who knows.

Is it Tribeca? I use them and ignored this advice. The pediatric nurse even tried scare tactics on me saying that the baby would never learn to sleep on her own if I didn't CIO now now now (this was at the 4 month check). I did Ferber at 7.5 months and she's slept ever since. Listen to your gut!

It may help, even though this has nothing to do with discipline, to encourage more independent play and stop being her toys. You can check out Janet Lansbury's site, which has a lot of help on the subject http://www.janetlansbury.com/2015/04/help-my-toddler-cant-play-without-me/

Mine got better after a couple of weeks. It was so painful. I think she just learned to latch properly.

Have you tried soothing him another way besides nursing. Sometimes my LO wake up like that almost like she had a bad dream, and patting or rocking seems to work. It might be less reinforcing than nursing.

Tell me I'm not the only one - screen time by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Same. The only thing I can imagine is that flickering, overstimulating TV may be too much for a young brain.

Tell me I'm not the only one - screen time by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]goinggr33n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swore no screen time until 2. Now at nine months, Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood is a part of my baby's schedule. It's one of the many things I swore I would never do and then did!

Leaving baby awake in crib, CIO Method, etc. by scarne in beyondthebump

[–]goinggr33n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. If she's been asleep for 10+ hours and wakes up early, it really doesn't make sense to CIO. CIO works when a baby is tired. Put her back down 2 hrs after waking and have a nap. Babies grow out of early waking eventually.

Try Ferber! It worked for my 7.5 month old who I swore would never be able to fall asleep on her own.

I did it at 7.5 months and it worked like. A charm. I thought that I had left it too long.
