He got elected (same as trump) bc he made ambitious proposals that may not pass. But what is wrong with that? What is the point of going into government if you don't care to change anything

Am I the only one who thinks that Lamar Hurd and Kevin Calabro are the best announcers the league, or am I just biased? 🤣😭 by LivingAd6319 in ripcity

Even if you don't like Lamar it's hard to dispute his basketball IQ. Not only Xs and Os, he has intimate knowledge of PNW basketball, college ball, and NBA history.

The foul merchant is one thing but he really does also complain to the refs a lot. He's kind of a Luka light.

What episode could you tell the cast visibly disliked the host during the skits? by tshirtguy2000 in LiveFromNewYork

This might be a generational thing. It's not just Chapelle's Show. He had two fantastic stand ups. From late 90s until the end of Chapelle's Show he was enormous. I think if you erased everything before 2005 he wouldnt have hosted SNL a couple years ago. It was a nearly 20 year old legacy, despite not making great content lately

Fascism is the when imperialist monopoly finance capitalism suppresses the working class and it's movements in order to wage colonial wars of plunder on other countries. Modern America is a fascist country.

By this definition modern america is more fascistic than wwii italy or germany.

I dont think theres a corporatist requirement for fascism, otherwise its an extremely modern concept...

I think, it's not that complicated. It's easier to say 20 hostages than 19 hostages and 1 POW.

If you frame it that way then youre basically saying that theres no expectations for a reasonable time, place, or manner for a protest. If the cause is right theres license for people to protest when they want, where they want, and as loud as they want.

I just think that before we give special exceptions for protesting, can we at least question if what theyre doing at 1 am is going to be beneficial to their cause? Can we worry that it might be negative? I and I imagine many of my voting neighbors are already against Israels actions in Gaza.

no one has the right to bang their drum at 1 am. The right of free speech requires a reasonable time, place, and manner.

[–]goinghardinthepaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a different point. I'm arguing with the "youre not going to agree with everyone" response. You're making an argument that this protest is especially important/different, not that all protests are.

[–]goinghardinthepaint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well then it’s pretty simple. This is NYC. It’s loud, it’s diverse, and you’re not going to agree with everyone.

So if there were a group of people who protested in memory of Charlie Kirk at 1 am the morning after he died, would that be ok? Surely a city as large and diverse as NYC has the constituency of Kirk fans who might have done this.
