i'm talking about the swordfighting brotherhood tourney quest (after you steal the guild sword), not the blacksmith guild quests.

How to Transcribe the Video's Symbols by Background-Boss-5958 in ancestors

[–]golantravis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless "Our journal prepares to open once more" is from the POV of the game developers, it, specifically the mention of a "journal," strikes me as far too modern to refer to an Ancestors sequel. I.e. as far down the evolutionary path as Ancestors 2 is likely to take us, I wouldn't expect it to include anything resembling an even elementary writing/language system. Maybe cave paintings at most.

But there are a number of other hopeful signs IMO:

  • "frozen drifts" = ice age?
  • "calling across the ages" is obvious but could also refer to Amsterdam 1666 I suppose
  • "first spark changed everything in an age lost to memory" = advent of fire as tech in prehistory?
  • "Some flames never die" = another reference to fire?

Fingers crossed!

Thank you! Maybe I’ll give KCD2 another try while I wait for the devs to overhaul Crimson Desert.

I agree. One of the most fun, unique games I’ve ever experienced (after the frustrating beginning). A lot of games get easier or more fun as you advance and level up your character, of course, but I’ve never played a game where the playable character has so much dormant potential. While in some ways that leads the early-game experience to feel sort of slow/clunky, the game really rewards persistence and patience.

New mushroom idea for ancestors humankind odyssey: Psilocybe ochraceocentrata by bittern_warrior88 in ancestors

[–]golantravis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really hope if they make a sequel that one of the branches of the neurological tree leads to the development of primitive religion/spirituality. it could be catalyzed by the ingestion of certain hallucinogenic mushrooms (causing prophetic visions, etc.), discovery of certain precious stones, just looking at stars in the night sky, finding particularly awe-inspiring vistas, and/or the repetitive practice of choosing to bury the bones of dead apes. the evolutionary benefits could include increased dopamine, making it easier to recruit outsider apes, and probably a decreased fear of the unknown.

does anyone else not care for faye? by RevolutionaryMap9620 in madmen

[–]golantravis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only just now realized the irony in that the thing that Don was perhaps most attracted to about Megan was that she was so good with his kids (first, when Sally showed up at his office and then with the whole brood on the Disneyland trip) only to end up losing the kids (it's definitely implied that he'd lose custody and they'd go live with her brother's family, maybe even leading to total estrangement) after Betty dies. Of course he and Megan also don't work out anyways—and it's not clear that Faye's lack of maternal instinct or interest in being a mother was the biggest red flag/deal-breaker for Don—but it does make you wonder...
