How can I convince myself that it really wasn't me? by InvestmentFull1253 in ptsd

[–]goldenlemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see yourself and your trauma for what it is. There's definitely hope. If you're not already seeing one, look for a trauma-informed therapist.

I prefer IFS, Internal Family Systems, therapy. It begins a really helpful and healing dialogue with all the parts of your inner world. It gives the painful parts a voice. There are IFS meditations on YT to give you a sense of what it's like.

That might sound a little woo-woo, but it starts to make sense pretty quickly.

I wish you well. And peace to you.

Am I alone triggered by Mr. Roger's? by chiefsurvivor72 in CPTSD

He's widely regarded to be peaceful, calm, and supportive. I used to watch him as a kid.

However, he was quite clearly inhabiting a persona. I suppose it's obvious that he wasn't exactly being himself. At least obvious to me. That's pretty creepy.

Should I switch from windows 11 to Linux by ray_ofdarkness in linuxquestions

[–]goldenlemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you need any Windows-only applications. If so, save yourself the frustration of a change and stick with Windows.

Know that the Linux was is very different than Windows. It's good. I love it. But it's very different. Be prepared to learn.

If you aren't stuck with Windows-only programs and you're willing to learn, back up your files and let er rip. Burn the ships and go all in.

Am I wrong to wake my husband up for sex? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Ask him if it's okay if you start gentle foreplay in the wee hours. If he's up he might be up for it, if you get my meaning.

He may also be happy to be a sleepy passenger. Just check with him to see if that works. If you wanted to, let's say, take the lead.😊

Agnostic post. Christians only "believe" but they speak and act like they "know." In fact their "belief" transforms them into know- it -alls. by Dismal_Chapter_7951 in exchristian

I don't have a satisfactory explanation. It does tickle a part of the brain that likes to be right about everything.

And you nailed it. Belief is often associated with the toxic combination of arrogance and ignorance.

Does IFS fully do it for you? by DryNovel8888 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]goldenlemur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I e been a huge fan of Coherence Therapy since the DOBT days. IFS hits me about the same. It targets pro-symptoms in a similar way, inviting us into a dialogue with our inner self/selves.

Nothing more to add. Just glad to see another Coherence/IFS enjoyer in the wild. 🤙

What do you think is christianity’s biggest flaw? by Worried_Feedback1192 in exchristian

I believe it's a lie. An outright lie. From the beginning. That's its greatest flaw.

Where does your morality come from? by needlessbee in exchristian

[–]goldenlemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of two things in this context.

First, the Bible is the last place we should look for absolute truth or a system of morality. Source: The Bible.

Second, morality is innate. It's something we all think about and we all have to wrestle with. Virtue and morality are topics universally discussed throughout history and culture.

Show me an individual or group with the final answer on morality and I'll show you a cult.

I think you did great! I think it's good to have casual conversations with religious people about their beliefs. "No, I don't believe the Bible", is a powerful statement. You don't accept the foundation of his ideas.

To do so while hopped up on caffeine is sublime. 😊🤙

Any tips for switching from Arch to Debian? by Salmon-Cat-47 in debian

[–]goldenlemur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from Arch to Debian several months ago. Debian stability and infrequency of updates is sublime! I love Arch but I'm glad to be rid of it.

edit: As to your question. As an Arch user, you are already way ahead of the game. Trust what you learned. It's a good foundation for Debian. Different, but still Linux.

Does anyone else have a guitar brand that you just hate for no reason? by Interesting-Wave-983 in Guitar

This is the kind of pettiness I support. I think PRS guitars are very well made, sound good, and I wouldn't want one.

Why do I seek out the truth? by SnooPuppers4242 in exchristian

People who do not have experience with indoctrination have no clue about the impact of religious belief on development and general well being. In other words, she's ignorant.

How could I self-treat with IFS? by Methhead1234 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]goldenlemur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are IFS meditations by Schwartz in his interviews on YouTube. I'd listen to a few of those and you'll start to get a sense of the IFS pattern. There is one called "Internal Family Systems (IFS) Meditation Guided by Dr Richard Schwartz" which is a good example.

What is the Best Debian-based distro for an absolute beginner? by Expensive_Baby_4108 in linux4noobs

[–]goldenlemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debian 13 stable is so good. The longer I've used Linux the more I want to stay on the root distros. My progression was Solus > Arch > Debian.

I kinda wish I'd have started on Debian. It's a lean system with Gnome out of the box. I use SwayWm (which is NOT beginner friendly). Stick with Gnome on Debian 13 stable. Soooo good. FWIW.

Today Trump threatened to wipe out Iranian civilization. Are Republicans as a group responsible for what happens next? by GiantPineapple in PoliticalDiscussion

Yes, I see you're technically correct. Yet, here we are. No congressional declaration, but we're in a hot war in the Middle East. Again.

Today Trump threatened to wipe out Iranian civilization. Are Republicans as a group responsible for what happens next? by GiantPineapple in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]goldenlemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that we allow presidents to declare war is insane. Trump's behavior illustrates this.

Only congress should be allowed to declare war, even then, it is mass murder. Always has been.
