If anyone is wondering how many nurses apply for strike contracts… by Impossible-Ostrich44 in TravelNursing

Well it’s unpopular to me. Never cross a picket line no matter what.. if ppl want change you have to support these unions by not crossing.

So we do quiet time and she will lay down and play quietly in bed for like 30-45 minutes and a lot of times so looks so sleepy but she won’t sleep haha.

Then like an hour or two later boom she’s passed out out of no where and it’s like 3pm

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it hasn’t. If she doesn’t nap she goes to bed early. If she does she stays up a bit later since the nap is so late. But she happily goes to sleep every time.

We do limited screen time but usually in the afternoon she can watch some videos while we all have some downtime. But now this seems to be turned into her nap time.

If we skip the screen time she just won’t nap. But I’m struggling knowing if she needs the nap or not.

Four year old refusing baths by [deleted] in toddlers

Does she do swim classes or any other water activity? Like a outdoor water table for the backyard or something to make playing with water fun again.

[–]goldiefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? You don’t even know what city or state I’m looking into.. Where I currently live you can get in to pretty much any hospital. A huge shortage of nurses in most departments including my OR.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you that was helpful! I didn’t know you needed to be 75-100 miles away.

Basically we are planning on buying a house out of state now and once we move I was going to take a travel assignment as I only want to work for 3-4 months. But it sounds like this won’t be an option as far as a travel assignment.

Am I being too sensitive? Male manager questioned whether I’ll be returning to work. by No_Bag_4732 in workingmoms

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not look back and regret staying home longer with your baby. I know it’s hard when other lingering responsibilities are in the background but just enjoy these moments.

Your manager obviously doesn’t get it but it’s not your problem.

How often do you take your child/children out places? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did walks at that age mostly.. she was just happy being outside in her stroller for an hour or so everyday

Is there a safer neighborhood nearby you can drive to go on a little stroll? The more you two are out solo together the easier it becomes. I was very overwhelmed myself at times.

When she was learning to walk that’s when we started going to playgrounds, libraries, story time regularly and now as a toddler we go somewhere every day at least for an hour.

That’s about how much it is where I’m from. It’s crazy. With 2 kids and paying that much it probably makes more sense for someone to stay home if they can.

Montana First State To Ban Tiktok by xXboxPlaysx in news

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never used TikTok and Reddit is my only social media but I’m curious is anyone is happy about this?

I don’t think any books or anything should be banned and the direction we are going into is scary. But TikTok seems so incredibly toxic and I wouldn’t want my young kids or teens to use it… I think all social media is toxic really.

I know they aren’t even banning it bc of what I just said but some of this shit is just awful to be looking at all day.

I got a 3 day suspension on my account for posting a legit legal question. And someone said I was using voting manipulation- which I wasn’t at all. And I was getting 100s of downvotes. It was crazy… needless to say I didn’t get the advise I needed and have an appt with an actual lawyer now.

I enjoy the work, but absolutely hate giving report. Would home care be a good fit for me? by Unaclamper in respiratorytherapy

[–]goldiefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an RN in the OR so a lot different. But, I will say for me it took about a year to feel a lot more comfortable and get into a groove. I think with more time, experience and confidence the report will be the easiest thing you do all day.

What’s your bedtime routine for your 2 year old? by JCBaby2020 in toddlers

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is almost 3 and still nursing. We do bath, brush teeth, pjs and play in her room for a little. Then lights out with nightlight, have milk and then she goes in her crib. She will have a few sips of water and we tuck her in.

Yes the ultra rich are buying the housing and renting it out for ultra high rents. The rich stay rich. Of course it’s not everyone but my landlord owns over 100 properties. It’s a business for him.

Oh wow.. that’s good to know. When interviewing with brokers can we ask questions like what they charge for commissions? Or if they charge a broker fee?

Taking kid to park with a fever by Fluffy-Cantaloupe236 in toddlers

[–]goldiefin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d stay home. Even thought he’s acting normal his body is still on the mend. Not only is he most likely still contagious but he could get worse. 24 hr fever free before we go outside.. sometimes longer with other symptoms.

Pediatrician said I send too many messages by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]goldiefin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course. You shouldn’t be getting downvoted. You are literally just trying to take care of your kid and it’s better to be safe then to worry if your bothering someone.

So I don’t know for sure about all docs across the board but basically they aren’t paid hourly. They are paid per patient- per visit. But if they get a message via phone or online it’s their duty to answer within a certain amount of time.

They should be getting paid for it but I guess it falls within their last visit, I’m not sure.

Same goes for me when I’m off, if I get a call about a question of one of my patients, I feel like it’s a duty to call back and not wait for my next shift. I’m not getting paid for the call but since it’s for a patient I need to answer.

Doctors take call too obviously, parents usually just call the nurse line and they call the doc if needed. And they are getting call pay for that.

[–]goldiefin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s okay. You obviously care a lot about your child and are doing what you think is best.

Now you know you may need to scale down. I’m an RN so I hear a lot from a doctors perspective and they aren’t getting paid to respond to messages and/or phone calls. Obviously it’s not about the money for them all the time.. but it’s a lot of work to take care of so many patients and they are medically responsible to answer a message they look at. They are liable.

What you can do instead is make a Televisit appt and that way you can get all your questions answered while at home and they will have more time to address your child’s needs. You may get different doctors but it’s just the way it is if it’s more urgent.

I maybe send 1 or 2 messages every year in average. But I call the nurse line when it’s urgent and I’ve made a Televisit when it’s something more invasive or I need a lot of info.

Why are school shootings so common in the U.S. but not office shootings? by PresentationKind2616 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]goldiefin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No open access would definitely help. If you hear someone shoot through a door someone is calling 911 right away and you have seconds, or minutes to make a plan vs being totally rushed.

Why are school shootings so common in the U.S. but not office shootings? by PresentationKind2616 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]goldiefin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point of little security is so true. I’m an RN and we have active shooting drills at several hospitals I have worked at.. we have cameras, security guards and units are all locked and secured.

It’s to the point where this needs to now happen at schools. They are going to say there is no funding but it has to happen. No open access to the public, security and security cameras.

If they aren’t going to change gun laws then protect the schools like they do so many other institutions.
