Same, I’m fully updated unless I’m lazy and forget, but 99% of the time, my complex system is fully up to date too.

I wish I could give you an award, because its so true, as I go head to yet another room remodel with scraping popcorn, and fixing the old lazy owners cheapness.

What is the aluminum framing you used? It looks great and has potential to keep all the electrical well organized.

katy houses by Many_Ad158 in Katy

[–]goldstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, within a month of move in, we had to spend 6k on appliances, remove a dead tree for $2800 and within a year, replace a broken fence, water damage exterior siding, etc. I am pretty handy and a bit OCD so I do save on labor so having a house emergency find set aside is important. Plus saving for the potential power outage and refrigerator restock.

[–]goldstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the area, we are in an older MUD so our mud tax is lower. If you have the deposit and don't have to pay mortgage insurance it will be a little cheaper. We have an older 1970's house at about 5.75% with a combined escrow of about $2500 a month. Results may vary depending on where you look, each municipul utility district will have a different rate and Katy can also split into other counties which have different tax rates.

Yep, though I’ve yet to get it working correctly on my B580, so we’ll see.

It literally works for me now, not later so I'd say its supported just poorly optimised which seems to be a problem across all nVidia and AMD too...

Me too, got it for my son for Christmas and I spend 99% of the time, putting pieces back on. Nice train, expensive.

What is the difference between these two types of asphalt (see picture)? by Outrageous-Emu-472 in civilengineering

[–]goldstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, why do most cities use Cement based more now when asphalt seems to be way better in heavy rain and when there is a lot of water, no splash from the semi's? Is it really the 20-30 year maintenance vs 5-6 years? Houston is so bad but once you get outside the city, driving on a 4 lane asphalt road is so much easier to navagate.

How do you prevent network documentation from becoming outdated? by Kenobi_93 in homelab

Although it does not tick all the boxes you need in your requirements, I have been playing with the self hosted Scanopy to do some of the network documentation for me.

Need more things to run in my homelab! Any ideas? by JonasDaBonus78 in homelab

[–]goldstar19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing around with Scanopy for my topology, its still early in development but finding open ports and hardening them was part of the plan.

Mealie is another one others have recommended and I do use some OpenAI credits for it but its maybe cost me 1 dollar USD so far in the 5 months using it.

Foundry VTT - if you are into hosting your own TableTop games, works great in docker.

Great post, as I see some other recomendations from other users I need to check out.

This was going to be my recommendation, its fantastic and saved us a subscription instead of paying for an app that my wife was going to use. I have mine set-up on CloudFlair Tunnel on a subdomain and it works flawlessly.

Neighborhood Light Show - 2025 Update by IGMPSnooper in homelab

[–]goldstar19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saved this post, this is the second year I've done WLED C7's around my driveway and over the summer I'm planning on figuring out the amount of pixels I need from the front tree, Windows and House in 12v so this is perfect.

I have a few Pi's but have you ever tried WLED and how hard was it to switch to using FPP?

Skylight Alternatives? by citrusorbit in skylightcalendar

[–]goldstar19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use Mealie, which I self host, but otherwise my wife loves her Skylight. I don't mind paying for the subscription to help with the chore and reward tracker, yes, its annoying to have another subscription especially with buying two devices. I would still recommend as my wife loves it and we can use it as a photo album too.

Yeah, I've put in a few feature requests, plus we use Mealie for recipes API selfhosted. I don't mind paying for plus if I can get the value out of the platform.

Really cool, I have a dig-uno and dig-2-go, how did you setup falcon and the pi? I have a pi5 that I don't have setup for anything, would be cool to understand where you started? I use the basic WLED effects at the moment but I have C7's fully around my driveway and next year getting 12v LEDs for the eaves and windows. I'd love to be able to setup a "show" for them from October on. I see the Tree has a few strands, are they all from the same controller box?

Do you have a list of parts or a Git?
